Why Play Rograkh and Silas

At the helm of the deck is Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh and Silas Renn, Seeker Adept. Silas has some value of recurring stuff from the grave and Rograkh seems like kind of a worthless do nothing at a glance but that little kobold is a main combo piece. With him you can combo off and win the game as early as turn one with infinite storm count and one of the many win-cons that go along with that. Rograkh flavor text is very fitting, Strength is relative.

How It All Works

The main part of the combo is Cloudstone Curio. With it on the battlefield and with one of either Crimson Kobolds,Crookshank Kobolds, or in some cases Dockside Extortionist in hand, you can bounce Rograkh and another kobold infinitely. This engine generates infinite enters the battlefield triggers and infinite storm count. By itself this does nothing but there are a number of cards that make all of your opponents lose the game from here. Aetherflux Reservoir,Altar of the Brood,Brain Freeze,Grapeshot, and Tendrils of Agony all either kill everyone immediately or lose them the game on their draw step.

Alternatively, you have the classic infinite mana combo of Isochron Scepter and Dramatic Reversal. So long as you have enough mana rocks to tap for 3 or more mana, this nets you infinite mana of whatever colors they produce. A neat side effect of this is since you actually cast the card exiled with the scepter, you generate an infinite storm count as well. From there you can win with any of the storm cards or aetherflux. It even works if you only produce 2 mana from rocks since you still get the storm count, just not the endless mana.

Another alternate win-con in the deck is either Demonic Consultation or Tainted Pact with Thassa's Oracle. Just win the game on the spot so long as no one has any counterspells.

Putting It Together

Since Silas gives us blue and black for colors we have all of the Tutors we could ever need. Artifact tutors for combo pieces, instant/sorcery tutors for wincons or counterspells, and just regular tutors for whatever we may need to win the game. Inventors' Fair is a bit expensive for a tutor at 4 plus sacrifice a land but since it just takes up a single land space there is no reason to leave it out. There is also Trophy Mage to grab the only 3 cmc artifact of Cloudstone Curio but it is still worth it since it is a main piece. Trinket Mage is good to just grab any of the cheap mana rocks left in the deck and it also conveniently gets Altar of the Brood too.

Other Interesting Things

All this talk about bouncing kobolds did we forget our other partner? Silas gives us the colors we want but he also serves as a way to recur the important artifacts that get blown up or countered. He also has deathtouch which makes him a pretty decent blocker most of the time too. Another way to recur our game winning artifacts or anything in the grave really is either Underworld Breach or Yawgmoth's Will. These few pieces make it much harder for the opponents to keep the combos gone.

Since we are bouncing creatures it would be silly not to have Dockside Extortionist. He can work as another free creature for infinite bouncing so long as between all of the opponents there are at least 2 artifacts/enchantments. Any more than 2 and you also get infinite mana as a side effect.

Another very good tutor is Imperial Recruiter since it can get every creature except Opposition Agent and Purphoros, God of the Forge. We can also use our same bounce engine to get multiple triggers from him and search for a bunch of creatures.

Conclusion

The deck has all the tutors you could want, all the counterspells you could want, infinite combos, early turn wins, etc. The little kobold and his buddy Silas seem like they can do some big things. What a weird day it is to say that a zero cmc kobold can be a cEDH commander. Strength is relative indeed!

Quick story how we thought this up.

I love cheap cmc commanders and I have built them all at least once so when this Rograkh was spoiled I liked him immediately. I didn't know what to do with him off the top of my head so I asked my buddy from work to help me throw some ideas together to break him. Our first thought was throw some equipment on him and attack everyone. We quickly decided that was the obvious choice and was too slow so we threw it out. I said he would probably be ok in my Animar, Soul of Elements deck since he is a non-artifact creature that is free for Cloudstone Curio. Then we wondered if there were any other ones besides him that were not artifacts. 3 kobolds from legends popped up and that's it. From there we saw all the infinite stuff that can happen and decided to pair him with silas for the colors and he happened to be able to recur combo pieces from the graveyard too.

Anyway, this is a first draft and I have played a grand total of 2 games with it so far. Criticism is welcome!
