Shorikai Poly is a combo deck that revolves around the fact that Shorikai, Genesis Engine is normally a non-creature artifact (can tap immediately) that draws us tons of cards and creates a target for our namesake card Polymorph. This deck only features 2 creatures being Tidespout Tyrant and Hullbreaker Horror which both do the same task of going infinite utilizing two artifacts that are a net positive is mana production over their casting cost. Will discuss in the combo section.

Strengths of using Shorikai

The primary strength for Shorikai is the ability to generate advantage over the course of the game by sculpting your hand each turn and in the mid/late game using otherwise underwhelming artifacts such as Unwinding Clock, Voltaic Key, manafold key, and Minamo, School at Water's Edge are absolutely unreal engines that snowball out of control very quickly for our opponents.

It also allows us to play key white pieces as opposed to Poly Tyrant Urza mono blue decks. The main ones being Enlightened Tutor which can help us find our secondary polymorph being Proteus Staff, Silence to help our combo turns and Sevinne's Reclamation to rebuy key pieces or help in an Intuition pile.

Weaknessess of Shorkai

Hopefully it goes without saying that our largest weakness is Null Rod and Collector Ouphe. Goodness those cards absolutely ruin our day, to the point that I am currently considering adding more ways to bounce permanents than the deck currently plays but that will be after a few more weeks of testing most likely. Similarly Rule of Law effects are pretty brutal for our winning turn, however they don't impede our turn-by-turn activities of activating Shorikai as many times as we can to sculpt our hand into a win.

We are trying to mainly slow down our opponents and control the board as we activate Shorikai, Genesis Engine and various other card draw effects in order to sculpt a perfect hand to combo off

In order to do this we run various cards to wipe the board or slow down certain actions/ strategies

Narset, Parter of Veils to slow down additional draw from oponents Humility to shut down any creature strategy - NOTE: Does not affect our commander in artifact form but will need to be bounced or removed for us to combo off with one of our two creatures Cursed Totem to slow down creatures with abilities such as Thrasios, Triton Hero or Najeela, the Blade-Blossom etc Out of Time and vanquish the hoard as board wipes Dress Down acts as a one time humility at flash speed in case someone tries to combo off before we do Pithing Needle to name a specific ability - most times without a set target I try to name Boseju, who endures to prevent a common form of artifact removal Torpor Orb to hose any creature ETB strategies

Main Polymorph Line

Prerequisites: , atleast and one Pilot token, at least two mana positive artifacts in hand or in play such as Mana Vault, Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Grim Monolith or Mox Opal assuming you have metalcraft (you should), Hullbreaker Horror or tidesprout tyrant in your deck somewhere. NOTE: you can use artifacts we don't intend to tap for mana such as Voltaic Key, Manifold Key, Lotus Petal as long as we are still going net positive. NOTE 2:Voltaic Key, Manifold Key will allow us to untap our commander without needing to reset via colored mana! BONUS

  1. Cast Polymorph or activate Proteus Staff targeting the Pilot Token
  2. Resolve Polymorph putting Hullbreaker Horror or Tidespout Tyrant into play.
  3. Tap your mana positive artifacts in play to float mana if able.
  4. Cast a spell of any kind to kickstart the combo by triggering Hullbreaker Horror, usually its another artifact for me.
  5. Hullbreaker Horror triggers, bouncing mana positive artifact #1 to hand.
  6. Cast mana positive artifact #1, bouncing mana positive artifact #2 to hand.
  7. Tap artifact #1 to float mana and cast aritfact #2 again, retturning #1 back to hand with the Hulbreaker trigger.
  8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 to float a varying number of mana until you have an arbitrary amount of mana. (If you're using Mox Opal in these steps you can skip ahead to Step #10)
  9. Using the arbirtary amount of colorless mana we amassed through previous steps, you can now begin looping a color producing artifact such as Fellwar Stone, Arcane Signet, or Azorius Signet to produce an arbitrary amount of colored mana.
  10. Using the arbitrary amount of colored mana we amassed through previous steps, you can now begin looping Shorikai over and over to reset the draw ability and draw your deck. You don't technically have to draw your deck though, just find Blind Obedience and then continute looping your aritfacts, Extorting each time until your opponents are dead.

Special Note: There are a few different situations and a bit of nuance to this combo but the main alternate situation is as follows: If using Proteus Staff instead of Polymorph you need more starting mana and thanks to the way Proteus Staff is worded you can stack your deck in any order you want to stack interaction on top, or maybe stack a color producing artifact to find off of the first Shorikai activation if you don't have that yet.

Alternate win con: Iso-Rev

Prerequisites: available and Isochron Scepter in play with Dramatic Reversal imprinted, with the ability to generate some combination of 3 mana in your non-land permanents.

Pay to activate Scepter, copying Dramatic Reversal to untapp your artifacts that produce atleast 3 mana and Isochron Scepter. Tap your artifacts to generate 3+ mana, activate Shorikai for and spend remaining mana to activate Scepter once again. Repeat, generating an arbitrary amount of mana and draw until you find Blind Obedience, cast it, continue casting Dramatic Reversal and extorting. You can also pivot back to the Primary Wincon once you have your deck in hand, if you want.

Note: Muddle the Mixture can grab both parts of this combo with its transmute ability
