Lavinia combo/control.

Intro: utilize mana denial strategies in conjunction with lavinia's effects to disrupt the flow of gameplay for the opponents. Lavina is a card that prevents opponents from casting noncreature spells with cmc greater than the number of lands they control. She also counters any opposing spell cast if no mana was used to cast that spell. Lavinia's strength as a hate bear shines around the presence of combo decks. That is because combo cards like ad nausem or citadel+reservoir require the correct number of lands to go off. Her first ability is back breaking to decks that tend to rely on fast mana and mana dorks to get the job done because having mana dorks and rocks wont allow you to cast larger spells from your hand when lavinia is on board. However, her second ability tends to attract way more attention. Along with all cheerio-type cards and instant speed interaction, her second ability disrupts certain generals from using their abilities and negates a handful of various combos. Dramatic scepter, alluren, and bomber-man to name a few. for a more complete guide on lavinia's effect as a single hate bear, please visit this Youtube channel here . Strategy: The strategy of this deck revolves around mana denial with the possibility of creating a card stall with the Knowledge pool combo. we are looking to use the second ability on lavinia to the greatest extent. Unique cards that combo directly with lavinia are Knowledge Pool, Omen Machine, and Eye of the Storm. In this deck, I only included Knowledge pool and not omen machine because the latter does not impact the game like a six mana card should. Omen machine is still very potent in less interactive metas because it can slow storm decks down and allow you to cast spells that bypass the knowledge pool combo(only effects cards cast from hand). knowledge pool with lavinia, while game ending most of the time, it is not full proof. this combo only disrupts spells being cast from the hand. this means that cards cast from the graveyard and commanders from the command zone are fair game for your opponents. with all the attention on you, they will be working on attacking you until you are forced to block with lavinia. another issue is that its actually impossible to win with a mere two card combo on account of anything you cast from hand still passes through the knowledge pool. Unfortunately, knowledge pool turns any instant speed spell that your opponents control into a potential counter spell that can steal your combo piece away. Therefore, the deck is built to ensure that combos can resolve without knowledge pool screwing us over. Wincons: Once knowledge pool and lavinia are on the board at the same time, there is little that opponents can do to continue their own game plan until lavinia dies. This means that cards that are already on the board before knowledge pool are going to be used against us and only us until opponents can cast spells again. we are going to be focusing on staying alive and gathering tutors for cards that we need to either combo off with, or create mana advantage without lands currently on the board. our deck uses both dramatic scepter and helm of peace combos to quickly close out the game. we also have the option of grinding out with blind obedience and Luminarch ascension. Mana Denial: The mana denial portion is the most simple part of the deck. Armageddon mana breach, mana vortex, back to basics, winter orb, wasteland, and strip mine all disrupts or destroys everybodies land. Then, cards such as mana tithe, as foretold, land tax, and crucible of worlds makes it so damaging our own lands does not screw us over. Land destruction struggles in cedh as a viable strategy because the most successful decks in any given meta tend to have large amounts of mana rocks and mana dorks to counteract loss of land. Lavinia sets herself apart as the ultimate companion to land destruction because an opponent cant use rocks to cast non creature spell if they do not have enough lands to match the cmc of a spell. we can use this fact to prevent other opponents from using knowledge pool against us when we are trying to win.
