Have you thought about Food Chain with Eternal Scourge/Misthollow Griffin. Assemble the 2 card combo, then get infinite creature mana, use sidisi to mill your whole library then reanimate?

And be warying on large chunks of self mill in this deck, i.e. Traumatize, as even if you mill 10 creatures with sidisi out, you only get 1 zombie.

I have seen a few Food Chain decks floating around here, and they're interesting. That being said, I have three potential win cons already that I quite like.

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed+Triskelion;

Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord saccing Lord of Extinction and;

Craterhoof Behemoth zombie beats, or just Zombie beats in general.

Really, a big enough Lord of Extinction with Phenax out would do the job too, hilariously.

I was aware of the Traumatize dilemma. That's actually why I don't use my foil Mirror-Mad Phantasm. Good self mill, but bad zombie generator.

Well and never assume you will win through mill in EDH. Eldrazi titans and other things will stop that.

Yeah, that's why unless I'm using Undead Alchemist to eat a library I'll be just comboing off or hoofing some face.

It's been suggested before, but what do people think of Mesmeric Orb?

November 28, 2016 11:45 p.m.

maddoxmtg says... #7

I like Mesmeric Orb, especially if you have a way to just tap/untap infinite times. And keep in mind, even if you exile the titans, their ability still triggers as the Undead Alchemist is not a replacement effect

I know. It's not about milling them out. Can't complain about getting rid of a Titan though.

The only downside is I don't have a way to get rid of Mesmeric Orb if it's going to kill me, and from a few goldfish runs it seems like it could. Untap 6 lands and 10 zombies a couple times and see what happens...

Lab Maniac as second win con. Reanimate him before you draw.

maddoxmtg says... #10

You could always throw in a Leyline of the Void for funsies.

Multiple reasons for not running Lab Maniac, but they can all be summed up as "I don't want to." Lol. I'm thinking if Mesmeric Orb becomes a liability it's an easy cut. One test I got 10 zombies on a single untap step, so it's interesting at the least. It's always fun to dredge yourself out once. Worth the laugh.

Graveyard hate is something I am feeling like I'm lacking, although ScOoze, Deathrite Shaman and Withered Wretch are all in my RL build, along with a Shepherd of Rot I'm going to have to figure out what's wrong with this list. I know my Crucible and Library are in a different deck...

That's fair. I am a big fan of the Maniac. And yeah. If you don't have a way to stop from dying or winning at instant speed, don't run the orb. It is just a liability. Honestly, out of the 3 I like Shaman the best and wretch the least. Shaman is a mana dork, that can be played on turn 1 whether you have a green or black source. Scooze is awesome because he can get bigger. the only issue is the activation cost. which leads me to wretch. double black is rough, but once he is out, you only have to pay any 1 mana instead of green. But he has no upside. I always recommend either void or RIP for the decks that can run it (the later being only in decks that don't need their graveyard) because enchantments are much more difficult to remove than creatures. and crucible and library definitely belong in here.

I have a Guttersnipe storm deck that often wins by drawing out with Laboratory Maniac. It's fun. I don't need too many decks that do the same thing.

Wretch's upside is he's a zombie in a zombie deck, with a Colorless activation. Double black is rough, but it's not necessary to play him on curve and I have enough fetches that it's usually not too bad to get double black.

Can't believe I just realized this. Ashnod's or phyrexian altar. With havengul and rooftop, you can generate infinite colorless mana and zombie tokens in a number of ways. Plus sac in black is very good.

How do I make infinite zombie tokens with Havengul Lich, Rooftop Storm and another creature?

November 29, 2016 11:56 p.m.

maddoxmtg says... #16

The easiest is grave titan. but you need a sac outlet for it. really anything that makes zombie tokens with havengul, storm and ashnod's altar. pay 1 to target titan, play for free with rooftop, then sac him to the altar. use the mana from the sac to pay for havengul again. each time you could actually recast another zombie. also, you could gravestorm if you run havengul, phyrexian altar, and Gravecrawler.

November 30, 2016 3:48 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #17

Titan isn't a zombie though.

November 30, 2016 5:48 p.m.

maddoxmtg says... #18

Diregraf Colossus. Which honestly should be in here anyway. Havengul, rooftop, diregraf, ashnod's altar. target a zombie in grave, cast, get zombie token, sac zombie token, 2 mana, sac creature, 4 mana. target creature again, this time only saccing the creature you reanimate. rinse repeat. (yes they enter tapped, but still an option.) also, just run Conspiracy then everything, even titan is a zombie, also free sidisi casts with gravestorm, just pay the tax.

November 30, 2016 6:03 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #19

I could see myself running Diregraf Colossus over the sluggish Endless Ranks of the Dead. It curves more nicely into Sidisi, could theoretically leave a zombie behind the turn it comes in, and is reasonably sized to sac to Jarad. I did want an alternate sac outlet in case of emergencies...ok, you're moving towards getting me convinced.

November 30, 2016 7:05 p.m.

maddoxmtg says... #20

Yeah. Sac outlets are a must in zombies. Altars are no joke. Phyrexian, Ashnod's, Dementia for the mill. Also, check out our buddy Relentless Dead. Holy shit is he good. Repeatable reanimation is damn good.

Just curious why you don't have Basalt Monolith to combo with mesmeric orb?

January 1, 2017 6:48 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #22

I don't know. Mesmeric Orb is only on a trial run. I have mixed feelings about it so far.

January 1, 2017 10:05 p.m.

maddoxmtg says... #23

I would also look into cutting the rest of your basics and putting in Hermit Druid. it is the single most effective way to do what you want to do.

January 2, 2017 3:48 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #24

No. I want to mill in small chunks and make lots of zombies as my primary route to victory, with the combo wins as plan 1a. Basalt+Orb is nice because it mills one card at a time, spewing out zombies and digging until I find the combo. Milling all my cards at once requires me to have Victimize in hand and a creature to sac, or Havengul Lich and mana to cast Mike & Trike. Slow attrition with an "oops I win" rather than aggro-combo.

why not Gravecrawler?
