Personally, I like Abyssal Persecutor better than Desecration Demon , but with so few kill-spells, you are right.

And yeah, 8 fetches can really do some damage to your wallet.

I like this deck. Have you thought about bloodgast rather than Gravecrawler or as a counter part? I know it is a 2 drop, but Gravecrawler requires a zombie in play to bounce back, and while you have plenty, the added punch of bloodgast would be a blast.

Keep in mind something like Vampire Hexmage as a be all end to planeswalkers. It also helps feed Tragic Slip , but so does card:Altar's Reap which works well with Gravecrawler .

+1. Please check out my newest deck: Bolas' Door of Nothingness.

Actually it's interesting you would say so; I used Bloodghast in this deck for over a year. It just never did what I wanted, however Gravecrawler gave me the extra turn of aggro that did so much what Bloodghast could not.

Add 4x Leechridden Swamp . Doesn't take away from Lashwrithe , as it is still a Swamp, and also can help to give the deck more reach.

This is an awesome deck!

I have to admit, I accidentally titled my new Standard deck Back...in Black! as well... My bad! So much for originality, ha ha.

Inquisitor's Flail just for the Phyrexian Obliterator, really adds to the punishment for blocking that guy. And Korlash won't care too much about wielding it either because he regenerates.

Love me some mono-black, solid deck, if not just a little evil >:) +1

Aw man, this deck has changed so much since I last saw it - why have you added Liliana of the Dark Realms? Shes jank. D:

vishnarg says... #10

Ha yeah, but Liliana may be bad but if you look at this deck in particular she fits really well. She fetches swamps to keep playing big spells and pumping my guys, while adding a dynamic approach of a pump to kill or quick removal with her -X/-X effect. A weak link but a great support card if I'm short mana and need help finishing.

You should add Hex Parasite to the mainboard. This way you'll be able to remove +1 counters from Geralf's Messenger, making it almost immortal.

How does it do against Blue Control, BW and pacificator decks in general

vishnarg says... #14

Yeah, but that included sleeves/box, 1 foil obliterator, 2 foil gatekeeper, 1 foil geralfs messenger, 1 foil bloodghast, 1 foil korlash, and all foil swamps.

How much did you spend creating the deck? like did you create the whole thing and make profit?

March 28, 2013 4:18 a.m.

vishnarg says... #16

I think a little profit maybe, I bought alot of these cards like Obliterator back when they were alot more. Mostly though, I still get to see my baby because I sold it to a good friend as his permanent modern deck, and I think it was time to say goodbye. Still it was a great deck. Thanks though.

consider removing 1x Geralf's Messenger and 1x Vampire Nighthawk for 2x Abyssal Persecutor which would rock in this build.

I'd consider (yes, everybody and their dog plays it) Deathrite Shaman for your sideboard.

It messes with Snapcaster Mage while pinging for lifeloss, and if you have two it can really affect Tarmogoyf , allowing you to make green mana while exiling their lands AND exiling their creatures for a little lifegain.

you don't seem to have any card draw in this deck. would 2 Barren Moor be good? idk modern meta, so its just a thought.

or if your meta is playing graveyard crap you always have your good ol' Bojuka Bog

you could even get a pretty quick win in with Inkmoth Nexus if attached in case of some board wipe.

again, idk modern players nor the speed of their game. cool deck though.

For a long time, I've been trying to get a very, very similar deck to work. I'm a little bit angry that you beat me to it, haha, but I love the deck.

The only thing I can think of is that I've been using Shriekmaw and Corrupt with some level of success. Even 1 of each has proved to be more helpful than not, in most situations.

4 Nighthawks always seemed like a little much to me, too. I almost always would just rather have had a Gatekeeper or Messenger, so 3 works for me.

vishnarg says... #22

Perhaps, but popping a Lashwrithe on Nighthawk and swinging on turn 4 is utterly devastating.

phil2010, I would run it due to it's raw efficiency, but the option cards never work to your advantage.
