Chainer, my pet deck

Commander / EDH*

Gekori

Maybeboard

I had this deck longer than I had any deck. Most of the maybe board are cards that used to be in the deck, but I took out to try some new ones. I've tried to take out all fetch that doesn't just get swamps.

The main strategy is to build up a nice set of swamps with a doubler like Crypt Ghast or Caged Sun and a nice filled graveyard without attracting too much hate/attention (which seems impossible with a set up like this, but in practice it helps to just play helpless and not interfere too much with opponents).

Then, when Chainer, Dementia Master gets out, he throws around killers like Duplicant and Fleshbag Marauder, and life drainers like Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Massacre Wurm. More interesting though, is to abuse your opponents' creatures, lying in the graveyard after being killed by a Shadowborn Demon or milled by Undercity Informer (although milling yourself usually gets better stuff). Grabbing a Mystic Snake, Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir or Angel of Serenity is hilarious.

The deck is filled with the necessary sac engines to prevent exiling with Chainer or Dawn of the Dead, and of course abusing etb and dies triggers. Carelessly paying life for Chainer's ability (because it's so good!) needs to be balanced out with some life gain from Disciple of Griselbrand or Dross Harvester. There are enough vampires to kick Blood Tribute most of the time, but beyond that there isn't any tribal interaction anymore.

Dross Harvester, Grim Haruspex, Druidic Satchel, Sword of Body and Mind, Phyrexian Totem and Midnight Banshee still have to prove themselves. I don't play magic very often these days.
