I hope you don't mind but I love this deck so I'm making it myself. I'm going to FNM tomorrow to get the rest of the cards I need, basically just the elspeth's. +1 from me man

Nice deck. Just play tested against my Esper and it destroyed it.

I can't imagine how battalion isn't triggering with this deck? Have you tried Cavalry Pegasus ? Perhaps Fabled Hero and some Dauntless Onslaught .

November 5, 2013 2:59 p.m.

Most the decks I play against have enough removal to stop the Batallion from triggering, or a wall to make me think twice about attacking. I actually have been playing around with Ordeal of Heliod and am liking how it plays, can get my early drops big fast, triggers my Phalanx Leader and the 10 health helps. Trigger early if needed with Ajani on turn 3 too. I do want to play with Cavalry Pegasus , maybe in the sideboard?

Hey lessthanthree24 I just wanted to give you a big thanks for inspiring me to make White Walkers are coming #1FNM. I just made it this last week, playtested it by myself a little bit, then rolled through a gauntlet of competition at FNM last night to finish #1 overall and 5-0. My opponents were the toughest draw I've had to date, playing people who finished #2, #3, #5, and #7, so this deck got truly tested.

My most common sideboard was 3 Celestial Flare for 3 Judge's Familiar, I played against a lot of aggro and devotion.

so thanks! I made sure to give you kudos at the bottom of my update describing the path to victory last night.

Do you only have 4 spells in the main deck that trigger the heroic on Phalanx Leader ? I think that is very low even if it does add devotion. Would take one out for another reckoner.

This decks seems great and inspiring to play mono-white! +1However, I wonder about Elspeth, Sun's Champion , as she's a drop 6. Does she see much play?

November 12, 2013 5:57 p.m.

Yes with the Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx she can get out on turn four, I know the leader doesn't trigger often but his devotion can be the difference between casting Elspeth or activating heliod, he's usually the first thing to come out when I sideboard though.

people continue to sleep on Gideon, Champion of Justice until he superman punches you in the face for 18.

I think you should ditch the Phalanx Leader for Fabled Hero even if you don't get the target for heroic on Hero, he is a 2/2 Double Strike threat, rather than a dormant 1/1 who'll probably end up chump blocking. Great deck.

Hey, great deck, thinking of building it as my first competitive level deck. I just have to ask, how does it fare against control decks like esper and mono-black? Great deck, +1'd.

November 18, 2013 10:47 p.m.

Mono-black / esper control is probably the toughest matchup, but so far I'd say I have won more of my games than lost, mainly due to the fact I can stop the straight removal, and can aggro out fast enough. Judge's Familiar is a nice slowdown against monoblack because it makes them take an extra turn before using Thoughtseize or removal. My planeswalkers are nice finishers and the Brave the Elements always helps for the final swing. Although if they are running several of the 'sacrifice a creature' cards that could make it tougher. I'm actually considering adding some enchantment removal not just for enchant decks, but for facing off against mono-black, destroying their whip is imperative (6/6 Desecration Demon with Lifelink is no bueno), and destroying the underworld connections early can really help slow it down as well.

After playing with the deck for a bit, I've concluded that even with ordeal of heliod and the god's willing's phalanx leader still doesn't seem worth it. I'm finding Daring Skyjek to be a much better fit than phalanx leader, and am running him over phalanx.

I would place Spirit of the Labyrinth in sideboard. Definately keep 3x though and maybe mainboard Boros Reckoner . Also, considered Banisher Priest for deck?

Added to featured cue.

March 21, 2014 1:17 p.m.

DireDestine thanks for the add and +1!! Trying to figure out how to add Banisher Priest , also thinking about dropping Precinct Captain for Judge's Familiar (or adding it to sideboard?)

March 21, 2014 2:57 p.m.

DireDestine says... #22

Precinct Captain is great as a devotion drop, and his first strike and token generation can be a game saver when facing aggro decks. Spirit of the Labyrinth only comes in handy with blue control decks. Same thing with Judge's Familiar , and by mid-end range you usually cringe when you draw the Familiar wishing it was anything else. Daring Skyjek may be your best bet to sub out for 3x Banisher Priest to 16 sideboard. Also running 3x Gideon doesnt seem as efficient. But those are just my opinion. Hope the Add helps you get more helpful feedback :)

I agree with Dire Destine, 3x Gideon, Champion of Justice is already more than enough, I suggest keeping two on the mainboard and swapping one for one Celestial Flare . (((=

I would drop Angel of Serenity and 3x Gideon, Champion of Justice for 1x Elspeth, Sun's Champion and 3x Gift of Orzhova flying and lifelink and good devotion.

I would also find a way to work in 2 to 3 Archetype of Courage that way with that out and heliod all creatures have first strike and vigiliance

I feel that this deck could used some more 1 drop creatures.

I would suggest Favored Hoplite a 1 drop +1/+2 creature that once you target him with a spell you get a +1/+1 counter and all damage that would be dealt to it this turn is prevented. Making it ideal for early swings.

Sideboard: I would also suggest Wear / Tear in place of Keening Apparition . Even if you don't use the wear half, the tear half is cheaper and an instant. Banishing Light could be beneficial for you as well.
