This is an aggro/burn deck, built around the two planeswalkers
Chandra, Fire Artisan
, and
Chandra, Flame's Catalyst
. For burn, we've got the classics
Lightning Strike
and
Shock
, with
Banefire
pulling up the rear for games that go long enough for it to be worthwhile.
Wild Slash
is better shock, but it's 2 of for now. I could see dropping banefire to run four of this.
For creatures, we've got
Chandra's Embercat
as a mana dork, mostly for the Chandra theme, but it also works to buff
Lavakin Brawler
, which is nice because it won't be swinging if there's much risk involved.
Chandra's Pyreling
gets huge off spells and walkers doing damage, so it's a natural fit.
Monastery Swiftspear
is a fantastic card that also buffs from spells, and for the budget angle, I already own a playset from back in the day.
Soul-Scar Mage
brings up the end of the creatures to make sure that our damage still kills things that it shouldn't.
Guttersnipe
, if legal in a format, is mandatory in mono red, and it's legal in pioneer and very good for this deck, turning 3 damage lightning bolts into 5 damage haymakers.
Brain in a Jar
helps us squeak out more spells on a turn, so that you don't need to decide between casting a lightning bolt or a shock. If you've got prowess on the board, drop both. It also plays into one of Chandra's sub themes, playing cards from exile.
For the maybe board,
Chandra's Phoenix
would make sure that we're never without a creature.
Magmatic Channeler
plays into that playing from exile subtheme again, but he's not an elemental, but he'd basically always be a 4/4 in this deck, which would help
Wild Slash
.
Mindsparker
is solid sideboard potential for running against difficult white and blue decks, swapping out
Banefire
and
Lavakin Brawler
for what would essentially be an extra playset of guttersnipe.
The Chain Veil
is great for decks that run walkers, and this deck does, so worth considering I think, especially because I already own one.
