Maybeboard

Spawning Kraken is one hell of a payoff but it's a pretty win-more card. If you're able to connect with a big ol' kraken or leviathan or whatever, probably your opponent is dying too fast for the 9/9 token you're getting to matter. However, Changeling Outcast is the perfect pairing - he does count as any number of spooky sea beasties and while he only hits for 1 damage, he's dirt cheap and unblockable, ensuring you'll get that massive kraken token for cheap. Mothdust Changeling is another one-mana "kraken" with evasion, and Shapesharer can turn any one of your unblocked attackers into another copy of Spawning Kraken after no blockers are declared, meaning you'll not only hit for six but get double the amount of 9/9 tokens!

Of course, your Changelings might be cheap, but the Spawning Kraken itself is still unwieldy at six mana. Sneak it into play with a timely Call to the Kindred on one of your Changelings, letting you put any creature of your choice from the top 5 directly into play each turn. Cryptic Gateway might not offer much of a discount at five mana, but being able to slip the Kraken into play at instant speed is sure to blow out an unwary opponent.
