FNM madness —Feb. 21, 2015

went 2-2 tonight

started off a bad night but got a lot better after getting to sit down and play. Had some personal complications that delayed me from getting to the tourney on time and had to take a first round loss.

2nd round was VW control vs B/W heroic won 2-0

this game was just nasty every creature he played i had an answer for. turn 2 for him he played a creature and my turn 3 i downfalled it. then he played 2 creatures turn 5 and swung turn 6 and i Aetherspouts. kept kiora out from my turn 4 with minus for the land drop and draw. then turn 7 played ugin and started the uptick. turn 9 minus for 7 and got my second ugin, a garruk, ashiok, so that was pretty much game over but he was nice enough to let me play it out. i then played a VW next turn for like 9-11 can't remember but after that he said game lol. match 2 was very similar he got out a few creatures and started swinging turn 4 Aetherspouts lol his face was awesome he wasn't expecting it. that was pretty much game i got ugin out and it just ran the game out.

round 3 VW control vs W/B warrior won 2-1

This was such a hard match. Game 1 he played 7 creatures by turn 4-5 and was swinging for lethal and i had no answers of board removal for him so it went to game 2

game 2 went much better but still had me on edge. i knew what his deck did now and i was confident in my sideboard that it had the options to change this game. started with turn 2 caryatid. turn 3 Frontier Siege.into a turn 5 Aetherspouts that wiped his board clean. this gave me room to breathe for like 3 turns so i got to play ugin and that was pretty much game he had no answers for him and just couldn't get a board state after that.

Game 3 was a massacre i just started with caryatid courser and 5 lands lol. took the risk and it payed off drawing into all of my answers. got Aetherspouts x3 Dig Through Time Jace's Ingenuity crux i pretty much just waited for him to get a board and wiped it away every time never having to use crux. i pulled ugin turn 7 draw and played him onto the empty board and started the up tick. got him down to 13 life when i played a VW for 9 and got 4 creatures a banishing light and sorin oh and a downfall to kill his only creature. next turn i swung for lethal to end the round.

round 4 VW control vs R/G monsters lost 1-2

being honest i shouldn't have lost this match it just happened that i didn't get the removal i wanted at the right moments. Game 1 was back and forth he got out a phoenix turn 3 and i just waited a few turns and Aetherspouts when he got sarkhan out messed his mojo up lol. kept him from keeping a board for the next 2 turns he would play a creature and i would just downfall it. finally got me a little groove. he got out a few creatures and swung knocked me down to 6 i played death dealer and then Feed the Clan for 10 life next turn he swung for 8 lol. then i sacked my death dealer by attacking with him n he blocked it with his 4/2 next turn i Aetherspouts him. knowing i had no removal left for sarkhan i had to VW for 3. ended up winning the game bc i got a phoenix and rabblemaster lol of course the other card was sarkhan so didn't get him. basically ended with next turn swung for 8 to knock him to 12 and then i played Feed the Clan that brought me to 15+ life. so he scooped.

game 2 and 3 were the same thing. i really just didn't get the removal to stop him no spouts or crux just nothing. he was able to simply play his creatures and get a text book win. it happens was a fun match but in the end he just was able to pull out the win.

Conclusion

I found a few cards that were just not doing what i needed when i needed something else or something just more relevant. Frontier Siege is going away for good. But i will say that Feed the Clan continues to impress me with its game altering results. i just haven't been having the best 4th round lol 4 weeks in a row I've played for top 8 entry but it continues to allude me lol. crux is an alright removal but i am really preferring Aetherspouts it just has been performing top tier removal for me.

Probably if i wouldn't have had to take the 1st round loss i might have been able to play top 8 for sure. only had 1 real loss it makes me happy to see this. top 8 is in my crosshairs and hopefully i get it next week.

ok did a major deck change that suites my local meta a lot better and will give me plenty of win conditions.

I checked out your deck for reality shifts. If i was going for the change i'd probably shuffle my one ofs out and drop the realitys in.Its really own you play your deck.

i found a spot for it in my sideboard by taking out x2 Thoughtseize.... swapped Thoughtseize into the deck and took out 1x Mana Confluence and 1x Sultai Charm
