The play tests #1 —March 11, 2015
Been playing this deck on untapped a lot and been doing really well.
This week i have a few decks i wanna hit on. These are not the only decks just ones that were really hard match ups that will direct me to sideboard options or main board.
1ST is a brew build of G/U enchantment constellation deck Lost 0-2
1st round was solid we were back and forth i knew his build used Eidolon of Blossoms before he even played it just from land base. he got a few 1cmc enchantment creatures and a few 2 drops then hit a eidolon and got some draw. i wiped with Crux of Fate and thought it would take him a bit to get back online but then i seen Strength from the Fallen into guess what another Strength from the Fallen and a 1 drop 1/1 creature. next turn he played Boon Satyr and swung for 16dmg i had nothing to answer with.
2nd round was better but i still could not stop the onslaught of dmg draw and enchantments hitting the board. it ended the same way the 1st round did. BRUTAL.
What i learned is all the decks around are playing enchantments in bulk so i need some answers for it so i decided to go with 2 Back to Nature's in the sideboard idk if they will be in my actual deck for fnm just bc i haven't seen too much enchantment lovers at my local but i may include them to see.
2nd Match Jeskai Aggro/midrange won 2-0
He got out 1st round with seeker then i quickly answered with BB. turn 3 played a rabble and i hit another BB before his token hit. my turn 4 i played ashiok and started the tick. he played Mantis Rider hit ashiok my turn 5 i Satyr Wayfinder into Murderous Cut on rider. was able to keep ashiok out for a while surviving turns and hit 1 rabble master with ashiok and kept on ticking. he conceded 1st round.
2nd round was a little crazy he learned what to do with my deck and only played 1 creature at a time. i was able to control the board enough to get to my 8th land and turn a kiora. played her out with enough mana and removal to block for her. he was still only at 5 mana so he could only get out 6 dmg in one turn n i was at 12. got kiora to 5 then dropped a nice VW for 7-8 he was like thats a card i hit rabble rabble mantis rider seeker and 3 burn spells. wiped his board and he conceded on his turn.
I learned that VW is way better in the aggro match ups and bad vs control in my opinion. i feel like a VW for 4-6 can be devastating to my opponents. so i will include a 2nd in my list. also my build is well suited for really any aggro but combo decks i might have a problem if the combo is non creature based.
I am not gonna go in depth on this next one mostly bc of time and the fact that i had the same matchup in my last fnm and the results are very similar.
3rd Game was vs G/W Manifest deck lost 1-2
it pretty much ended the same way but i did find that crux and Aetherspouts did wonders in this matchup. i also found doing a nice VW for 4-5 is great. i did enjoy the match though it made me think a lot and what i can do to better fight it. Garruk is what won the 2nd round for me getting a few 3/3's and then ultimating him and swinging for lethal was great. 3rd round was over turn 5. he got out Whisperwood Elemental and i gave up bc of not enough removal and i was gonna be dead in 2 turns.
Gonna need some help on this one finding the right answers for it.
