Cheap Greenery (Modern MTG Deck)

Get out a big power advantage in the early turns, and use Aspect of Hydra , Garruk Wildspeaker , Beastmaster Ascension , and even Rancor to threaten lethal damage fast.

Creatures

Turn 1+ Creatures:

Birds of Paradise - Accelerates your board presence, and has evasion for when pumped by Beastmaster Ascension , etc.

Experiment One - Evolved by every other creature besides Birds of Paradise . Often a 1-mana 3/3 or 4/4.

Dryad Militant - Early aggressive creature with a possibly useful effect.

Turn 2+ Creatures:

Kalonian Tusker - 3/3 for 2 mana. Preferred over Garruk's Companion , as it has 3 toughness and can be given trample anyways.

Strangleroot Geist - Sweet aggressive beater and a chump blocker when you need it.

Leatherback Baloth - 4/5 on turn 2 (with Birds of Paradise) smells a little bit like Tarmogoyf , which I hear is totally playable.

Turn 3+ Creatures:

Khalni Hydra - With the right opening hand, you can play it by turn 3. As a topdeck, it's often a free 8/8 with 8 devotion.

Spells

Aspect of Hydra - Aggressive creatures with high devotion potential make this the deck's true powerhouse.

Vines of Vastwood - Protection from spot removal and +4/+4 pump for one mana more.

Rancor - Trample helps to push through damage. Also pumps +2/+0 and adds devotion.

Dismember - Green's best removal spell. -4 life doesn't matter much when you're setting a short clock for your opponent.

Harmonize - Extra cards when you run out of steam, but not very aggressive. A one-of is good value, but it's not great to draw more than one.

Finishers

Garruk Wildspeaker - Overrun for 2 mana, but delayed a turn. With a few creatures on the board, this seals the deal. As you play him, use your two untapped Forest to cast an extra creature, activate Treetop Village , or just leave mana open for Vines of Vastwood or Dismember .

Beastmaster Ascension - Seven counters are easily reached, and they go on as you declare attackers, so it's often active the second turn it's out. Birds of Paradise never looked so dangerous. Dependent on a starting hand flush with cheap creatures, but a tremendous card.

Aspect of Hydra - +12/+12 for 1 green mana? I'll take 4, please.
