Chromanticore Clan

Modern Five Color

Lukus

Sideboard

Chromanticore Clan

This one is for all you Johnny's out there. It may look like a pile of random cards arbitrarily put together, but it is not. Quite on the contrary, this is the result of a long and rigorous selection process leading up to this moment in the history of deck-brewing.

Of all my homebrews, this one is the most fun to play, and it does win a lot of games in MTGO:s Just For Fun room - even against competative decks. Thanks to the million dollar landbase and ramp, mana or color screw is rarely a problem.

What's especially enjoyable with this deck is that you can win in a lot of unusual and cruel ways, that few people see coming. Some favorite examples:

  • Glittering Wish into whatever you need. Fun examples include but are not limited to fetching Realm Razer for the win - especially fun against Tron or Maze's End.
  • Bribery wins it on it's own sometimes by churning out your opponents Emrakul on turn three (after some ramp).
  • Sometimes you win with the tech - like wiping out a board of Soul Sisters with a good ol' Golgari Charm.
  • Overloading a Cyclonic Rift on your opponents end step when you have Sen Triplets out, or when you've got Rakdos's Return in hand, will get even the most honorable of opponents to throw a fit and rage-quit.
  • The Prophet of Kruphix + Mercurial Chemister combo is a monster when it starts working.
  • If you resolve Bringer of the Black Dawn early and he lives for a turn, enjoy tutoring for whatever during the remainder of your draw steps.
  • Chromanticore , of course. This guy wins games on his own - and keeps you alive with the lifelink while doing so. Enchanting him on something big like a flashed in Surrak Dragonclaw isn't a move that too many people will see coming.
  • Etc.

Any of these wins on its own look like an unlikely happenstance; like a fluke occuring only when the stars are properly aligned, like the blooming of the rarest of flowers. Try playing this deck, however, and you will soon see it's potential to deliver time and time again. Each game is different from the last (unlike some net decks I could mention), and each game is interesting.
