I play a lantern control deck myself and love it. Mine is a pretty straightforward list. I never considered the Pyxis of Pandemonium though. I may have to try it out. Don't know what your meta is like, but Hurkyl's Recall has proven usefull against affinity and the mirror match. Might be a sideboard option.

@Arich121: Thanks for the suggestion! The biggest problem i have with Hurkyl's Recall is that they usually just recast their hand the next turn. In the mirror match, this doesn't seem useful; i would rather side out bridge and lantern, and blind mill them to death. It may be able to tempo out robots, though. I do agree that i need more hate on artifacts and enchantments, though i am not sure if i should use the recall for that purpose.

This deck makes me so happy. Also I like your color scheme/backgrounds.

@kengiczar: Thank you very much! Unfortunately, the color scheme is broken on mobile for an unknown reason.

Have you thought of Nephalia Drownyard instead of Duskmantle, House of Shadow, you pay more but mill 2 more cards

@Mahna: I have thought of it extensively. Even though you are able to mill two more cards, i still prefer the duskmantle. The cheaper activation cost is extremely relevant when you have so few lands, and i actually prefer milling one card at a time so i don't accidentally mill an Emrakul or fill the yard with Snapcaster targets. Thank you for the suggestion, though! This is just my personal preference :)

Why the kozilek's return in the SB? Without an eldrazi to cast is just a worse pyroclasm.

@ griz024 he may feel better about spending 1 extra mana for an instant speed spell. maybe

Good call. I always forget that thing is instant speed!

@Arich121 @griz024 – It is also colorless, meaning it can be fetched with Ancient Stirrings. That is the biggest reason. The instant speed thing is nice, but hardly necessary.

another good point.

I think you might want to add a Tormod's Crypt or two. I think it could work well with Pyxis of Pandemonium and Codex Shredder

@muppetman47 – Thanks for the input! I don't really need Tormod's Crypt though. My goal isn't to exile all their cards, just to filter through enough of my opponent's deck to make it useless. I do include the single Pyxis of Pandemonium as insurance against the likes of Ancient Grudge, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Snapcaster Mage, but it's hardly necessary and fulfills the same role as Ghoulcaller's Bell. I would rather not use precious card slots on a strategy that does not further my core game plan, and the exiling of cards already in the graveyard is not worth it, in my opinion.

one of the first lantern decks I've seen that looks unique.

still follows the same great formula, but with nice new additions too.

and, TBH, this actually looks like a modern deck I might build for once.

How do you get the deck webpage to look all cool and custom like this?

crexalbo says... #18

@MTGLeafy – I use tons of custom Javascript and CSS.

I have very little experience with lantern control as it is non existent in my meta. But would a Torrent Elemental work? I feel like it would help as a secondary win con if and only if you are failing to lock out your opponent. Additionally, if you do this it might be fun to add a cut, which synergizes with the ghoul callers bell as well, to recur this effect if the elemental where to die.

@Ninjadude51   That's got a mighty steep mana cost... I wanna be able to cast my hand as quickly as i possibly can so i can hide behind an Ensnaring Bridge. Also, a large reason this deck is successful is that it makes creature removal completely dead; my opponents will be holding Path to Exile, Terminate, and Ultimate Price without being able to cast them on my stuff. If i added Torrent Elemental, then it would immediately eat all the removal i've been letting my opponents draw. Even if i did need a second win condition... seven turns seems like a pretty slow clock. If my opponent's clock is slower than seven turns, then i will have plenty of time to find something to cast, and if it's faster than seven turns, then i'm screwed anyway. If i was going to add a third win condition (Ghirapur AEther Grid being the second), then i would use Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas instead for its utility.

I like Lantern, it's a deck that I really wanna try out. Though, I do have a question, could Saheeli Rai fit into a Lantern list or is she just not good enough?

September 11, 2016 5:27 p.m.

crexalbo says... #22

@Serra_Sentinel: I don't think she's good enough. She doesn't align with what the deck is trying to do – lock the opponent out of the game. Compare her to Ensnaring Bridge. The Bridge on its own will practically win the game the moment it comes down, with no further time or interaction required. Saheeli Rai doesn't have a direct impact on board state when she comes down, instead requiring several turns of setup for her tutoring ability to go off. I'd personally much rather play Infernal Tutor and control my own draws for the tutoring, and play Galvanic Blast to deal damage to our opponent.

Thoughtseize instead of Duress and Despise?

September 14, 2016 1:11 p.m.

crexalbo says... #24

@jamesfiek: Once i have the money for those kinds of cards, yes, i'll probably replace both with 2x Thoughtseize.
