@Mortem: I love it and will buy a couple and put it in. It's been extremely strong in the playtesting i've done so far. However, Inventor's Fair is from Kaladesh, which is not currently Modern legal, and this is an IRL list, not an online one (as stated in the description), so i can't put it in there quite yet.

Would Sensei's Divining Top work better than Lens of Clarity?

@SirFowler: If Sensei's Divining Top was legal in Modern, this deck would be built a lot differently.

can Pithing Needle be considered removal? either way, I love the deck. I have been looking for a lantern control list to build as my first "non-budget" deck. i think i'll make a few edits and use this one! any advice?
P.S.: How did you code the page to look this AWESOME??
October 12, 2016 10:16 p.m. Edited.
@Wurmlover: Although not removal in the traditional sense, Pithing Needle can "remove" permanents by shutting down their activated abilities. It renders all planeswalkers useless, and turns opposing creatures like Grim Lavamancer and Tasigur, the Golden Fang into blanks as well, effectively removing them from deck, hand, and play, even if not in the traditional sense.
My personal recommendation is to do as much testing yourself as you can. Proxy the deck and see how you like it. If you do like it, then as you play it, you'll find ways to tweak it and make it your own.
I have a custom CSS script hosted on Dropbox, and i link to it using some code in the description. ;)

Hey, I was wondering if you knew where to find a "standard" lantern control list around. I'm still tweaking my version, and need more examples of what its "supposed" to look like, in case I missed anything. would you mind taking a look? Lanterns Light the Way (1st non-budget deck!)

Maybe consider replacing the basic swamp for one copy of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, reason is that you have 13 cards maindeck that require black mana, and you are relying heavily on hand disruption in the early game before you can get your "lock" on the opponent and can't afford to be without . Its not a huge change but it may smooth out your early play. And with all of your sideboard enchantment hate + a full playset of Surgical Extraction you don't need to keep basics for fear of BloodMoon.Loving Inventors' Fair and Infernal Tutor in the deck. Great tools for fetching your Lock pieces.

@KGW: I may consider that, and have even considered some number of Blood Moon in my sideboard before. I do like having two basics for Ghost Quarter and even Path to Exile on Ornithopter. If i use Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in place of a basic Swamp, what benefit would that provide? The basic Swamp already taps for , so i can cast my discard spells just fine still. The only case where i see Urborg benefitting me over a Swamp is when i have three discard spells in hand and another non- land. In this case, unless one of those discard spells was Collective Brutality (which i'd probably use to pitch a spare discard spell anyway) and the rest of the hand was really good, i would mulligan.
Also, Urborg is expensive and isn't really worth the impact it would have. My Aether Hub have been working fantastic for me so far, and i will soon be replacing them with Glimmervoid and Mox Opal.

@Wurmlover: You won't find a stock list, because it doesn't exist. I recommend you check the MTG Salvation forums to see what other people are running, then pick and choose what you like and make your own list from it. Once you practice with the deck, you will find what works and does not work for you. :)

I agree that Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is really expensive for a minor benefit. Just a consideration to make casting all of your as consistent as possible. Glimmervoid is definitely a better option (although super costly card right now).

also, is the win condition with wolf run and ornithopter working?
October 14, 2016 2:50 p.m.
@Wurmlover: Yes, it really is. It has won me many matches that would have otherwise gone long or stalled out.
October 14, 2016 3:34 p.m.
I'm considering going back to Stensia Bloodhall though. Oh, if only there was a land like Bloodhall that dealt X damage instead!
October 14, 2016 3:47 p.m.
there's Lavaclaw Reaches, maybe. Does only one of each wolf run and thopter work well? i didn't think that it would be very easy to put together.
October 16, 2016 12:57 p.m.
I can't use Lavaclaw Reaches. It enters tapped, which is a huge no-no. Also, since it has a 2/2 body, it doesn't attack under a lowered Ensnaring Bridge, so it's pretty much pointless.
Between the natural lock being able to dig for pieces, Inventors' Fair and Infernal Tutor being able to tutor for things, and Codex Shredder and Academy Ruins recurring cards from the graveyard, it's actually not that hard to get the Kessig Wolf Run + Ornithopter combo set up. I can usually do it in a few turns, and close out the game a couple turns after that.

i just thought of this, do you think Bloodchief Ascension would work as a win condition, so long as you could pop in some burn by the way of Pyrite Spellbomb or Mardu Shadowspear?
October 16, 2016 7:58 p.m.
I tried Bloodchief Ascension, even in combination with Mindcrank. I'm not going to be including Mardu Shadowspear or any other creature unless it can serve multiple important roles. I include Ornithopter because it's easy to get out of hand, can block and enable Metalcraft in the early game, and acts as a late-game finisher. Spellskite can block and does amazing things to protect the board state, and also can finish with Kessig Wolf Run. Mardu Shadowspear doesn't do anything besides attack, and even then it can't do that under a fully lowered Ensnaring Bridge. The Ascension doesn't do anything early game, and even if we were able to activate it with Pyrite Spellbomb or Ghirapur AEther Grid, all it would do is speed up an already sealed game by maybe a turn or two.

What are your thoughts on Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace?
October 17, 2016 12:09 p.m.
@SirFowler: Honestly, i would play two if it didn't say "Activate this ability only any tine you could play a sorcery."
October 17, 2016 1:06 p.m.
But now that you got me thinking about it... Necrogen Spellbomb does much the same thing... Thanks for the suggestion! I'll take a look at it.

what are your feelings about ghoulcaller's vs. pyxis? i find that pyxis is really helpful against dredge. is it worth being in the SB?
also, have you considered Extirpate in the SB for control matches?
October 17, 2016 7:42 p.m. Edited.
I have two Bell maindeck and two Pyxis maindeck, and i like this split. Exiling things comes up often enough to where i like having the option to dig/tutor for an exile effect.
I have considered Extirpate, and probably will eventually get one, just to have. I haven't had any problem with Surgical Extraction yet, though.

One card I've never seen in a Lantern Control list, and it's worked pretty well for me (deck is still very much in testing), is Spirit of the Labyrinth. Is there a reason nobody uses it?
October 17, 2016 9:12 p.m.
legendofa, i think the reason that no one uses it is that there are other cards that are better, such as Abrupt Decay and Surgical Extraction. maybe in a sideboard against blue, but thats all i can think of.
