I really hate to say this, but... Cipher is combat damage. Guttersnipe 's ability is not combat. That would be stupid silly OP, but they thought of that haha.

Yes i know that, but they are still cast which triggers Guttersnipe .

Okay, I thought you were ciphering onto him. You should specify in the description so more people don't say the same thing haha. In that case you should defs run Invisible Stalker and Tormented Soul to hit 'em and drop some of the evasion enabler spells.

Thanks. Invisible Stalker does help get things through until i can get intimidate on one of my goblins. Tossed in a Krenko, Mob Boss as well to help get chump blockers out.

I would drop Gruesome Deformity for 2 Think Twice and 2 Artful Dodge card drawing is a must for this type of deck and both have flashback to make Guttersnipe truly evil

Thanks grizzell Artful Dodge will help out more early game than Gruesome Deformity . By the time it's no longer needed i should have my card:Executioner's Hood on a ciphered creature and be free to swing away and trigger Guttersnipe

I feel like you'd be better off using unblockable creatures than card:Executioner's Hood, or at least spells like Ghostform which trigger Guttersnipe as well.

I looked at that when you first reccomended Invisible Stalker , but I noticed that most unblockable creatures are vulnerable to board wipe like Electrickery and Golgari Charm . Intimidate will help me with getting my creatures through that are more resilient to those effects. I'm looking at a couple other creatures that I can add in for late game swingers with ciphers on them.

I like Undying Evil to protect your guys vs wipes, but it only saves one and is rather circumstantial so it probs wouldn't fit. Yea Mizzium Mortars ruins your day. I guess counterspells are the best protection.

what about Invisible Stalker ?

February 14, 2013 10:25 p.m.

KrimsonNekros says... #11

@vonnegut replaced Invisible Stalker with Deathcult Rogue . It doesn't have hexproof by defualt, but it has better survivability against board wipe.

Well, I'd say hexproof is better. Aside from maybe Golgari Charm , what boardwipes would Deathcult Rogue survive that Invisible Stalker could? The extra 1 toughness isn't worth not having hexproof and a less effective version of unblockable.

Deathcult Rogue operates well in the face of card:Curse of Death's Hold which field wipes 1/1s and keeps them out of the game permanently against a red/blue/black deck. Something a friend of mine took advantage of while facing a deck similar to this one that I currently run.

Jay says... #14

I guess if it's in your meta, but I've never really seen card:Curse of Death's Hold played... at all haha

February 16, 2013 2:29 p.m.

Monoxidechild says... #15

Yeah but there are a lot of other -1/-1 wipes that things like Tormented Soul and Invisible Stalker just won't make it through.

Jay says... #16

If it's working for you then I suppose that's all that really matters, I just think the closest thing that's particularly meta is Mutilate which kills the Deathcult Rogue anyway. But again, stick with what works.

Yeah I agree with you, its an issue of picking your poison. Their will always be a counter, so you just have to decide what you want to work with.

While Harbor Bandit does swing for more, I would consider Invisible Stalker in its stead. Less mana + hexproof + Unblockable out the gate.

Needs... More... LANDS!!!!

But seriously, 18 is way too little lands for ANY deck, even with the most ramp possible. I think 24 is the best number of lands to have in a deck, 25 or 26 if you are ramping.

February 18, 2013 10:23 p.m.

Jay says... #20

While agree you need more, 21 or 22 is fine for this. 24 is like max ever.

February 18, 2013 10:51 p.m.

KrimsonNekros says... #21

I know that this seems like a low count of land, but i have this really weird tendency to get flooded if I'm running more than 18-20 land. I don't know why this happens, but trust me even the people i play with are confused by this.

Loiden says... #22

You should have more Invisible Stalker s 23 lands is what you should put in here. If you get flooded, pile shuffle or play Biomass Mutation

This is not a Commander /EDH deck by the way.

You should consider Delver of Secrets  Flip since you're running 23 instants+sorceries. A one drop that can easily be an evasive beater ready to be ciphered. You could probably afford to drop a few of the artifacts and add more lands as well.
