Consider: Allosaurus Rider is the Evo pipe-dream for real. Turn 2 Rider, turn 3 morph it into an Iona, Shield of Emeria or, in this case I suppose, something like Pelakka Wurm. That could be an alternate mono-green path-- get that out ASAP, 'combo' off. I'd be happy to help you out with that, but the deck would probably look different!

I'm going to suggest changing up some cards to make this truly a creature mono-green toolbox deck. No way you need 3 of the Wurm when you're going to be tutoring for it. All it will do is clog up the hand.

I say take 2 of those and all 4 Utopia Sprawl (I know, Arbor Elf, but that's a combo reserved for Tooth and Nail decks that actually want to get to high mana. You're using a cheap Birthing Pod effect to cheat your way there, and it doesn't make you able to play Evolution faster) out for some more silver-bullet creatures. So that's -6 cards.

To start, something like: +1 Scavenging Ooze, which is Evolution-able but also a silver bullet for Abzan CoCo.

Then I really want to see some 4 drops that you can Evo into t3:

+1 Nylea, God of the Hunt because you'll have a pretty good chance of turning her on and the trample can be useful lategame.

+2 Polukranos, World Eater because he'll be very ahead of curve, he's non-Boltable, and his Monstrous ability can clear a board--this'll be your vanilla, most likely target.

+1 Thrun, the Last Troll (from the side) because sometimes you need a sticky creature. That's +5 cards.

How about something cool for the last card? Try +1 Platinum Angel so you have three different 7-drops to fetch for whatever situation.

Let's smooth out the rest of the curve with some other creature-toolboxes.

-1 Thragtusk (you can put him back in the side for when you really need the lifegain), +1 Acidic Slime because you might really need the land or artifact destruction.

Let's try -1 Evolutionary Leap for +1 Greenwarden of Murasa for more GY recursion? I don't know if you need it, but I don't think you need 2-of Leap either.

You could also try instead 1 Primalcrux for fun shenanigans with Nylea, or Primeval Titan if you want to do something like run 1 Ghost Quarter over Oran-Rief, the Vastwood (which I recommend). Ulvenwald Hydra is a budget option there, but PrimeTime isn't very expensive iirc.

Some other cards to consider in the 4 spot for the sideboard or if they tickle your fancy: Phyrexian Metamorph, possibly Solemn Simulacrum as he's a great Evo target.

Anyway I just tried to smooth out your curve and give you better paths for Eldritch Evolution, while sticking only to targets that you can hardcast yourself with a monogreen mana-base. If you're worried about being able to cast Dragonlord Atarka without Utopia Sprawl, try switching Arbor Elf for Birds of Paradise. If you're open to more Evo targets that are out of colors, I can come up with some!

I tried not to suggest anything needlessly expensive, and I don't think anything is. If you want to just keep this to cards you have, that's fine too. I just happen to love Eldritch Evolution, green, and midrange, so I can get carried away! Have fun. :)

abby315, Thank you so much for the suggestions! As you can tell, this deck is in its very early stages.

When it comes to Allosaurus Rider, I have given it some consideration. However, I am trying figure out if the payoff is big enough! The problem I see with it (and yes, I think pessimistically when it comes to brewing modern =P) is that, if I cast it for its alternate cost, and it dies before I can use Eldritch Evolution (assuming I have Evolution in hand), I am out three cards. If it DOESN'T die, but I don't have an Evolution, it sits on the board (or in my hand) as a vanilla 2/2 or 3/3, etc. As a commander player, I love the janky things like this, but I wonder if it would work here...

As far as changing the deck radically, I am willing to accept that it needs to happen. However, I don't have the funds for too many staples, so this deck was built using what I have on hand (for the most part). Still, adding another color or two is not out of the question.

You have a good point with the Pelakka Wurms and Utopia Sprawls. In hindsight, my green deckbuilding is stuck in a rut of "start with 4 Utopia and 4 Arbor Elf," haha. I guess I am not sure just how fast modern really is, so I try for the quickest mana I can find.

Scavenging Ooze, Polukranos, World Eater, and Nylea, God of the Hunt are all good ideas. The Ooze is a card I have never gotten to play with, but I think it's time I track one down. I have definitely felt the lack of 4-drops in testing, and your suggestions are a good place to start.

Thrun, the Last Troll from the SB is a good idea, especially since I see that he is insane against Jund, to say the least. Also, the idea of another "unique" 7-drop finisher is good. I'll look into ideas like that.

Funny that you should mention Acidic Slime, Primeval Titan, and Atarka, because I've been working on those cards recently. The first version of the deck had Prime Time, and I was about to find a spot for an Acidic Slime! Atarka was not one I expected to stay for long, I just threw her in there to see if she'd work (FYI, she doesn't!).

I like the idea of Solemn Simulacrum, and also Greenwarden of Murasa. I wasn't sure if they were strong enough for modern, but I can try them.

--------------

So:

1.) I will change the 1-drop mana dorks to something more effective than Arbor Elf (Birds is the likely choice, but we'll see.

2.) Ghost Quarters will be added, now that my turn 1 plays are less dependent on me having a forest in my starting hand.

3.) I know that, if I add another color, this deck would love Restoration Angel. If I can track one or more down, that will be an option

4.) My weakness in brewing modern is that I come from playing commander. Therefore, I try to do wayyy too much with my decks!

Thank you so much for your imput!

Thanks Ledian! I once considered him, and then forgot to add him to the maybe board. He's right up there with Pelakka Wurm, too =)Thanks for the imput.

One of my favorite green creatures, also consider Worldspine Wurm.
