Step 1: Put a Licid in a cage

Step 2: Put Mirage Mirror in a cage

Step 3: Attach Mairsil to your opponent's creature

Step 4: ? ? ? ?

Step 5: Win

Mairsil is known as a broken combo commander, but they are capable of so much more. Primarily this deck is built around the Licid cycle and Mirage Mirror or Mizzium Transreliquat. These allow for a lot of silly stuff.

Mairsil, the Pretender + Transmogrifying Licid + Mirage Mirror + In Bolas's Clutches

While attached, use a mirror effect to make Mairsil copy an attachable permanent on board, and they remain an attached aura (layer 1 is copyable values, layer 4 is type-changing effects). Use control effects like In Bolas's Clutches with this to do stuff like remove an attacker from combat, or of course borrow the best creature on board.

Mairsil, the Pretender + Transmogrifying Licid + Vorpal Sword

Attach them to an unblocked attacker at instant speed and activate a caged Vorpal Sword's effect (it says "equipped" but really cares about something attached, see 301.5f) to knock someone out of the game.

Glistening Oil + Mairsil, the Pretender + Mirage Mirror

Bounce them to hand by becoming a copy of Glistening Oil and dying because they have nothing attached.

Mairsil, the Pretender + Eye of Vecna + Hand of Vecna + The Book of Vile Darkness + Saheeli, Sublime Artificer

Another weird package of note is Vecnatron. If Mairsil cages The Book of Vile Darkness, then activates and exiles itself a real Vecnatron piece and a card made into a Vecnatron copy by Saheeli, Sublime Artificer, the resulting Vecna token will get the triggered abilities of the printed cards, most notably caging a permanent when it enters. These slots are probably best replaced with lands or signets, but I'm trying them until the dream is dead.

Some standard Mairsil value pieces apply: churn through your deck, give things haste, find ways to copy Mairsil's trigger. It's resource intensive to get multiple effects in cages at the same time, after all. While like any Mairsil deck this is rather all in on Mairsil sticking around, unlike most Mairsil decks, this isn't as all in on putting everything into cages to synergize. Generally we want a Licid and a Mirror in a cage, but after that many effects are better on board. This means we can actually develop a board and have a backup plan for if Mairsil becomes unplayable, even if that backup plan isn't particularly great.
