Friday Night Magic - 03/01/13 —March 2, 2013

Alrighty, not bad today. 3-2 record in five rounds, 22 people, sixth place finish.

Match 1: 2-1 - Went up against a green/black Wolfir Avenger deck that liked to play Abrupt Decay.

Match 2: 2-0 - Went up against a Boros Battalion deck, but his deck was unfinished at the time, and was missing full play sets of cards.

Match 3: 1-2 - Naya Midrange. First game I won due to sheer luck as he scooped after not getting any lands for six turns. The next two games i couldn't keep up with his Ray of Revelation, although Supreme Verdict did help me out.

Match 4: 2-1 - Boros Beat Down. Well fought match between the two of us. First round i was able to beat him down with Geist of Saint Traft. Second round, a miracle Bonfire of the Damned ruined my plans and i wasn't able to recover. Third round, Blind Obedience and extort saved me. It kept me up long enough for me to build up my defenses with a lifelinked Geist of Saint Traft and Sphere of Safety

Match 5: 1-2 - Esper Control. This was the longest Match i played all night. First round i was able to completely overwhelm him. Second round, Curse of Death's Hold ruined my day, and his counter spells killed any chance i had. Third round, i just couldn't get my creatures out in time to do much damage.

Overall, a sixth place finish isn't bad, but still. I'm definitely thinking of splashing black in here to get a hold of Orzhov Charm to pull my enchanted creatures back in before a Supreme Verdict or other board wipe, and to add some flexibility.

If your going for the enchant win, I would suggest dropping Fog Bank and card:Judge's Familiar for other more aggressive creatures. I like Fencing Ace , Spectral Rider or Elite Inquisitor . Another enchantment I would suggest is Spectral Flight a little 1U that gives +2,+2 and flying. I would definately run it over the Sphere of Safety . I would look to win quickly with evasive enchanted creatures.

Knight of Glory would be a great sideboard card.

I run a Bant version Bant Enchant because I love Rancor .

After some playtesting, i do like Swarthy1's idea of using Fencing Ace and Spectral Rider . I haven't seen where to fit Elite Inquisitor , but i can definitely see the fun another two drop would give me. Hell, it might help to have Immortal Servitude warmed up with all of the two drops after a Supreme Verdict ?

I would splash a little Black and add in a few Merciless Eviction to stop reanimator decks.

I would run 4x Curiosity because it gives you a MASSIVE advantage. Also I think Spectral Flight is better than Gift of Orzhova.

Generally you want to be going bant enchantment with Geist and Invisible stalker and ethereal armor and Rancor.

I really like Orzhov Charm for this deck. Giving you the ability to save your main threat from a devastating Supreme Verdict, or your own Verdict for that matter, seems huge to me. Orzhov Charm's 2nd ability also covers a slight hole in non-sorcery speed removal in the deck.

More incentive for splashing black is Dark Favor. Great Aura to buff your creatures up quickly, and add to Ethereal Armor.
