Why do I wanna make this deck?

The base idea is that I want to build a deck that creates a situation in which I buff someone else's creatures as they attack my other opponents, or otherwise have impact on someone swinging at my enemies. A weird form of playing "support" I guess.

How do I reach that goal/want?

I play cards that both I and my opponents can benefit from, use them to "lead by example" and incentivize my opponents to attack each other too. This way, I won't really be their ally (since that's pretty much impossible in a four player free-for-all or even in star), but I will get them to move into a position where I can buff them while they swing into my opponents.

What do I need to do that?

  1. Almost-symmetrical cards that buff attacking (only my opponents, really).
  2. Creatures that are good at attacking themselves (to act as an example and to close out the game).

I'm personally most excited about pumping other player's creatures or giving them trample or something, rather than giving my opponents mana or cards, although I do realize that that's far more enticing of a reason to risk an attack.

I think adding the option to goad when necessary will make the deck work better, but I do want to be careful, since that might make me the villain.

I currently have some cards that venture into the dungeon, and those will go into the Lost Mine of Phandelver. It has the most staight-up good, simple options, and some combat specific ones (token, +1/+1 counter, -4/-0 until next turn) that vibe with the plan. It's also the shortest, so it's also the fastest at getting the "if you've completed a dungeon" mechanics online.

Reasons for removal:

  • Disrupt Decorum doesn't do enough. It's replacement is a straight upgrade for this deck.
  • I first put in Path to Exile because I thought the lifegain from the alternative would be worse. Pretty sure it isn't after trying the deck a few times.
  • Nelly Borca is a decent card for the strategy, but it feels too complicated, and it also doesn't allow me to draw cards by myself.
  • The deck doesn't produce enough mana to want a large amount of Clue generation, and some cards like Wojek Investigator sometimes also just didn't produce any clues, which feels really bad.
  • Nadaar is cool and has been useful, but venturing into the dungeon isn't a good enough reason to keep him, and I don't have enough support to want to keep him as a 3/3 lord.
  • Victory Chimes just isn't useful enough. I don't use the mana all the time, and it being colorless makes it too narrow to keep it just in case it is useful.
  • Treasury Thrull is expensive to play, and I feel I need cheaper recursion.
  • Legion Loyalist is a funny guy, but he feels too niche. I need to fix some other issues the deck has (mostly, having haste) before I'd add him again.
  • Master of Ceremonies and Mathas, Fiend Seeker feel like they play too different of a game, not focused on combat but on something else.
  • Nahiri's Machinations feels like the wrong way to get protection.
  • Reasons for adding:

  • Swords to Plowshares should feel better than the alternative.
  • Like I mentioned, Taunt the Rampart is straight upgrade for this deck.
  • Chivalric Alliance gives me a way to turn useless cards into creatures and gives more draw.
  • Glimmer Lens is recurring draw that I can move to different creatures if the token dies. Very neat.
  • Sophina, Spearsage Deserter syngergizes better with the deck and makes 1 or 2 Clues by themselves. I think she'll be better than Nelly Borca, but we'll have to see if she overcoves the Clue problem.
  • The Immortal Sun is just more draw and more everything else the deck can use.
  • Aurelia and Karlach are here to add some extra combat phases, which allows me to trigger attack triggers an additional time.
  • Bounty Board taps for anything, and also allows me to politic. It does work in the similar way Mathas does, but this can also just be a mana rock, so it "doesn't take a slot".
  • Alesha and Back for Seconds are the cheaper forms of recursion that I want, and Alesha even syngergizes with the theme.
  • Reconstruct History allows me to get back everyting else the deck might need from the bin.
  • Gimli's Reckless Might grants haste, and maybe the fight could potentially be good. Will have to see if that's not a hinderance or useless.
