My take on one of the oldest gimmick decks: a wall/defender deck.

This is my final version for now, and it proved to be surprisingly good, i dare to say even competitive against some aggro decks.

Although it's not a combo deck, control can easily screw it with wrath effects or by countering Lead the Stampede, the only (albeit efficient) source of card advantage.

It's comparable to a tribal deck, except that Engineered Plague and the like can't screw it up.

Defense is the best offense! (At least in this deck) :D

It's simple and fun to play.

Currently the main win-con is Vent Sentinel. Although Rage Nimbus and Wakestone Gargoyle or Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs might also do the job.

(If your opponent does cast any creatures to come at you, Forbidden Orchard helps you out.)

You can easily play less color-heavy if you remove Phantasmal Image and/or Perimeter Captain (and Wakestone Gargoyle ). So you don't need to run Ancient Ziggurat or Thran Quarry .This might make Overgrown Battlement even more effective.

This could use some tutors, although this would likely lower the efficiency of Lead the Stampede. Which is currently together with Overgrown Battlement like Goblin Ringleader and Goblin Warchief. Except you don't get two hasty bears...

Multiple Perimeter Captain s (which can happen frequently with Phantasmal Image) can get you tons of life, therefore i also considered Test of Endurance/Felidar Sovereign.They (and Gideon Jura) didn't make it in the main deck since you'll normally not need them to win if you can get that amount of life. Plus Test of Endurance and Gideon are hard to cast since Ancient Ziggurat won't work with them. (Gideon would have been nice otherwise).Well of Lost Dreams would be useful, but then you'd need more than just the Captains (e.g. Pride Guardian ), otherwise it's too easily a dead card.

As you can see on the Maybeboard, i considered quite a lot of other cards...

Some favorites of mine that didn't make it in the deck include Hanweir Watchkeep   , Laccolith Rig , Sheltering Ancient , Sleeper Agent and Wall of Blood.Maybe i'll make up a BRG variant of this deck one day or the other...
