When I came back to MTG last year my first deck was Selesnya aggro. I've decided to come back to W/G after I picked up Voice of Resurgence and this is the first incarnation of a Selesnya midrange. I realize that this isn't a very "clever" deck, but I'm looking for most effective. I'm still considering other possibilities to utilize my "voice". Another deck in development that uses voice is The Voice of Naya, but I think this is actually the better deck.
Keys to the deck:
Voice of Resurgence: just an awesome card.
Loxodon Smiter a big body that can hit T2 to shut down aggro, make discard pay, and hurt countermagic
Thragtusk, Restoration Angel: staples of G/W, provides mid game stabilization.
Trostani, Selesnya's Voice a big butted baby, who can really put the pressure on the opponent and provide additional stabilization. If they don't deal with Trostani, it will get ugly.
Unflinching Courage trample... check, lifelink... check. If this hits the Loxodon Smiter turn 3, look out.
Sigarda, Host of Herons, one of my favorite cards that too often ended up in my sideboard. With the prevalence of players using black driven sacrifice, she needs to be in the main.
Selesnya Charm exile their big boys, hurts reanimator, provides a quick blocker, and let's me pump the damage. Gotcha.
Advent of the Wurm
, combat trick into populate target for Trostani, or to reclaim the battlefield after a wrath.
Gyre Sage The little engine that could. An ideal 2 drop that gets bigger next turn either to Loxodon Smiter or Voice of Resurgence. Becomes a growing threat that quickly deal it out or added ramp as needed. Really liking the possibilities for this card.
Sideboard still in development:
Pithing Needle: only way currently to shut down opposing planeswalker
Purify the Grave
: after facing Junk rites, I want this in my deck.
Ray of Revelation
: strip off the auras <-- replaced by Deathrite Shaman with the addition of black, see below
Ready / Willing
: protect from wrath. Haven't decided whether to splash the black or go with Rootborn Defenses instead.
Oblivion Ring all around high utility card.
Nevermore... not sold on this as of yet, may switch for Witchbane Orb as I'm mostly worried about discard and direct damage. The latter covers a lot more scenarios and Nevermore is much more situational.
Comments, suggestions, and +1 are always appreciated.
Recent changes: removed one Plains to go to 23 lands upon adding the Gyre Sage. Still seems to draw alright.
Update 7-12-13: added black mana source (+2: Godless Shrine, Isolated Chapel, Overgrown Tomb, and Woodland Cemetery, -4 [[plains], Forest) to allow maximum effectiveness of
Ready / Willing
out of the sideboard and added one Vault of the Archangel (removed one Gavony Township) to take advantage of being able to give creatures deathtouch/lifegain. Also added Deathrite Shaman to sideboard. I don't see many enchantment heavy decks at my local shop, but I do see reanimator and Junk rites, so he gets a spot over
Ray of Revelation
Update 7-16-13 Increased Vault of the Archangel to 2x and removed Gavony Township, because I'm reducing Trostani, Selesnya's Voice to 2x and increasing Garruk, Primal Hunter to 3x -the idea is I want to be able to use the -3 the turn he hits for card draw right away and still have a good chance of drawing him again. Increased vault gives me more chances for lifegain. Also swapped Witchbane Orb into the side and removed Nevermore. Removed
