So, I was scrolling through my comments, and forgot that I didn't actually answer you Troys50:

@LVL_666 I had heard this from my friends that this was not the case, that quad healing wasn't something possible with Essence Sliver. Guess you can't trust your friends, huh? Hail the Brood Queen! Bows

To answer your question: Your friends are 100% WRONG. If you refer the accordion up top, and go to: The Hivestone > The Strategy > Combos and Synergies and look at Syphon Sliver + Essence Sliver I explain everything at length. When they doubt you, just point them straight to that section, and it will silence them. With slivers, it is actually possible to get DECUPLE-life gain. Yes. That's right. If you have 4x Essence Slivers, 1x Syphon Sliver, and 1x Bonescythe Sliver in play then that's 4 separate triggered effects and 1 static effect going on two times in one strike. Say it with me now: DECUPLE-LIFE-GAIN. (that means times ten). Mind you it can only in a casual game. But it can happen. So tell your friends to stick that in their pipe and smoke it for ever doubting the queen's majesty.

Slivers was always an archetype that interested me when I was thinking about getting into magic and the idea of making a sliver deck is what finally pushed me to buying my first cards. I always loved the swarm "theme" from various games (zerg in starcraft come to mind). When I started buying cards to make my sliver edh deck, your deck was my main influence for deckbuilding. I've been playing slivers for a couple months now and loving every second of the hate I get. Thanks for being such a valuable resource to me for deckbuilding.

I've been running living death in addition to yawgmoth's will and patriarch's bidding and it's been pretty effective. Have you considered adding that, or living end to your deck for more graveyard recursion? I find that when I lose it's because I got boardwiped, all my good slivers got countered or removed or I just didnt hit the mana I needed. The first two are answered by the mass recursion effects. The latter will eventually be fixed as I make my landbase better.

Xcallion, i'm flattered that you would consider my deck a valuable resource for your own deckmaking - thank you for the compliment. I put alot of time, energy, and way more money than I should have assembling this beautiful monstrosity. Glad someone else is finding it worthwhile.

As for your suggestion, the idea of adding more graveyard recursion has been rattling around in my head for sometime. Living End and Living Death have crossed my radar briefly, and I considered swapping them in for Unnatural Selection. Unnatural Selection's use in this deck is very niche, but i'm hesitant to remove it because I can outright control a whole board using it and my commander. Nothing feels better than taking someone else's commander, and hitting them in the face with it.

I've actually been considering Volrath's Stronghold for a little while now, swapping it in for Mutavault. While it's not quite as dramatic as Living End/Living Death, it's something that can be done every turn, and is relatively protected due to the minimal land hate in my meta. I think it's differences compliment Yawgmoth's Will and Patriarch's Bidding quite nicely.

Mutavault is wonderful in that it's an extra Sliver in the deck - and A 2/2 for no less. My only issue however is that it's not as impactful as I would like. It's a manland that's only as good my boardstate - more slivers = better Mutavault. Also, opponents are usually quick to forget about it's ability. But despite all that, I think what Yawgmoth's Tomb brings is just far more worthwhile for the deck to perform consistenly. What are your thoughts? Do you have Mutavault in your deck? How has it performed for you? Have you been considering Yawgmoth's Tomb as well? Have I asked you enough questions? Ha. Thanks for commenting, the hive is pleased.

Xcallion, in regards to "Have you been considering Yawgmoth's Tomb as well?" I meant to say Volrath's Stronghold. My mistake.

Delta-117, I didn't realize the spoilers came out! Thanks for keeping me aware. So, after doing a brief perusal of Commander 2017's offerings a few cards piqued my interest:

  • Hearld's Horn: It's like a slightly weaker combination of Urza's Incubator and Mirri's Guile.

  • Kindred Boon: an Enchantment that creates indestructable creatures...not bad.

  • Kindred Discovery: It's like a strictly better Synapse Sliver...but not a sliver. I wish this was a Sliver.

  • Kindred Summons: That CMC is almost too high to make this card worthwhile for Slivers, but it's interesting nonetheless. Good synergy with cards like Mirri's Guile, but it's largely dependant on my boardstate. Maybe it could serve as a decent wincon?

  • Heirloom Blade: An interesting piece of equipment that keeps a hand full of creatures. I can see this being very useful with Sliver Queen. Doesn't exactly wow me though.

  • Path of Ancestry: I don't exactly like the comes into play tapped part...but for a mana of any color then scry 1? Yes please.

Delta-117, are there any spoiled cards you think I've missed that are worthwhile?

Teferi's Protection perhaps?

Mortlocke says... #8

Teferi's Protection, huh? That is an interesting card indeed...but doesn't quite have the abuse potential i'm looking for. Considering how my deck would be able to use it...well...it's super limited. Yawgmoth's Will wont give me access to it, and I only have one option to tutor it. I don't think it's that great of a card unless i'm missing something Delta-117?

(Sorry in advance for the probably bad english, it's not my main language and sometimes i struggle a bit when it comes to write in english. I hope you understand)

First of all i'd like to say that i love your deck and all the dedication and effort you put on it, as a fellow Sliver player like you i'm so impressed!

I used to play Slivers back in the day with my playgroup. We used to play really bad, with really bad decks, and some absurdly complex and nonsense multiplayer modes, but the deck always crushed my opponents mercilessly! Then it became hard to play a sliver deck in my group because of the Sliver Hate effect, constant complaints, salty comments... i became "that guy", i started feeling bad just for playing it and i ended putting it away. Years passed, playgroup changed, and recently i started having interest in playing EDH and TL. I started looking here on Tappedout some ideas and it was in that moment that the Hive Call echoed in my soul. I've build a similar budget version of this deck and started to strike fear in my enemies again, defending the pride of the Hive with determination! Yes, the Sliver Hate effect it's still here, but now i play what i like the way i like it, without being influenced by the other people.

What i wanted to say is just Thank you for sharing the amazing work you're doing for the Hive, it really changed my way to play MTG, and i cannot wait for your next update on this deck! Keep up the good work!

OT: Oh, i wanted to ask you one thing: i know this is a EDH build, but i wanted your opinion about the Tiny Leader format. If you would ever build a TL sliver deck, what colors you would choose? I know there isn't a proper Sliver Commander under 3cmc, and sometimes the builds i try to make feels so forced and inefficient, but i worked so hard these days to find a balance for a build that might work, and i wanted to ask you before i let go my idea. From what i saw, with Yasova Dragonclaw seems nice, even a build with Marath, Will of the Wild could have some uses, but the absence of black mana feels so heavy... i tried a a pseudo-reanimator build with Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, i tried once with Jenara, Asura of War but she's so out of place, she's good only for her colors... i dunno what to do, what do you think?

M4RK0G91, thank you for the high words of praise. I'm grateful that you appreciate my deck, and the page that chronicles it's life. Your English by the way is excellent, I wouldn't have guessed it was a second language for you. I first met slivers way back in Legions - I was playing my 2nd deck ever: Mono blue Wizards. I played against my friend who assembled a rainbow sliver deck. I lost every single game I ever played against it, and after my 4th or 5th loss straight, I couldn't help but admire the synergy of slivers.

Fast forward roughly 10 years, and now i'm married and facing all sorts of adult responsibilities. I don't have kids yet, so I chose to get back into magic. My awesome wife bought me the custom hand made "Queen's Egg" as a complete surprise. She knew that I was talking to Liefkicker Studio about getting a custom made deckbox, as his work is simply amazing. She told the artist to lie to me, saying that he couldn't take commissions at the time. You could only imagine my surprise when I received a mysterious package a few months later. My wife is the best.

As for Sliver Hate...it's real. A lot of younger EDH players have absolutely no idea what Slivers are...or heard of them but never had a chance to face a sliver deck. But I can assure you by the end of the game they are definitely aware of the might of slivers...and typically are relieved the game was over lol. The players that do know what Slivers are generally groan the second I reveal my commander. If i'm in a multiplayer game with said previously mentioned player(s) they will try their best to convince everyone at the table that i'm the biggest threat...even with no slivers on the board lol.

This will be a multipart response, as I've yet to play Tiny Leaders. But i'll give you a full response after I do a little bit of learning on my part. Thank you again for the nice words, the Queen is most pleased.

P.S. - If you have one magic deck that you are really fond of, I highly suggest you look at Liefkicker's website website and inquire about buying a deckbox. I'm not going to lie...they are expensive, but worth every single dollar. Recently, he made a variant on the Queen's Egg themed after Sliver Overlord that was for sale on ebay. His work is beautiful, and of the highest quality. His site is definitely worth checking out.

Now is the time for some C17 stuff! A land you can add is Path of Ancestry, which unfortunately enters tapped, but is a Command Tower that scrys whenever you cast a sliver. Another great card is Kindred Discovery, which will make all your slivers draw cards on top of what they already do. In fact, the whole Kindred cycle is worth looking into. The rest of the cards are less exciting, but any tribal deck should look into it.

August 26, 2017 3:29 p.m.

Mortlocke says... #13

Monkeylordz, thanks for bringing my attention to some of the new cards from C17. Path of Ancestry caught my attention, but then I kind of wrote it off as a strictly worse Command Tower due to it coming into play tapped. But then I thought more about the scry 1 part of it's mana generation and I have mixed feelings. I want my deck to be as fast as possible so anything that enters tapped is kind of a no go to me. But that scry 1 really gives me pause.

Kindred Discovery is a strictly better Synapse Sliver. That is nothing to shake a stick at though. Considering my deck, other cards that cost as much are basically combo pieces and wincons. Then there are cards that just help me dominate the battlefield through sheer numbers. KD is a very good card but has a very big and fundamental flaw in that it requires creatures to work. I'll keep thinking on how i can incorporate it, but for now it's mostly something i'll mull over.

Great deck... I just want to point out the combo potential of Quilled Sliver + Venom Sliver... Cheeky synergy that works out well for me.

September 21, 2017 6:58 p.m.

Mortlocke says... #15

Icbrgr, thanks for the comment and +1, the hive appreciates it. The combo potential of Venom Sliver is great, as Deathtouch is just a wonderful ability. Quilled Sliver's ability is also great, but it does leave much to be desired. The strict stipulation of having to target an attacking or blocking creature really limits the combo's viability. A similar Sliver, Thorncaster Sliver is also pretty lackluster. I wish for I could get a slightly improved Psionic Sliver. It's design simply falls short of a Prodigal Sorcerer, which I believe it's supposed to be, but a Sliver. Quilled Sliver isn't bad, but its not optimized.

Despite going 0-3 at a 12am prerelease, and my card pool leaving me with a pretty bad deck, I managed to open an awesome promo!

It was a promo growing rites of itilmoc, which I think is going right into slivers.

Delta-117, i've been there too, being 0-3 that is. What's worse is that it was to a bunch of children. It's embarrassing...but i'll tell the story: back when I was starting to get back into magic I went to a draft and decided to sign up for the 'casual' table thinking it was going to be more less experienced players, or players just getting back into the game. I was more or less right, but everyone else there was a child. Like...5 to 7th grade. I was the only adult, and it felt weird...like I was babysitting or something. I once had to tell one of the little ones to stop messing around with one of the other kids and let him play his game! lol.

The worst of it however came when the most adorable little kid asked if I wanted to play a few rounds. He was so cute it was awful. He had big ol' disney eyes and the little kid voice. That kid drafted some kind of monstrous red deck wins and proceeded to trample my face in both games. I was so embarrassed I couldn't really say anything. When his dad showed up I asked him "why don't you play with him?" and he responded "Because I can't take losing to him like that." It was pretty funny...and I had a good time anyway...sort of. Losing to kids hurts man.

M4RK0G91, I realize I never actually responded to your other thought:

"Oh, i wanted to ask you one thing: i know this is a EDH build, but i wanted your opinion about the Tiny Leader format. If you would ever build a TL sliver deck, what colors you would choose?"

I uh...realize this is like...months late so sorry about that. So what's my opinion of the Tiny Leader format? Well, I don't have a TL deck, nor have I played the format BUT the idea I have of the format is alot constant quick and cheap plays that over time add up and create interesting combos and synergies. I can see why you would consider creating a Sliver deck for that format. The only problem is that you won't have any big "Haymakers" if you will. Being restricted to CMC 3 seems like a real big challenge.

So, what colors would I choose to build a TL deck? Hmm....well lets assume I want to build a TL Sliver deck. What would be the ideal commander for me? Animar, Soul of Elements is a strong contender in my book. His secondary ability at the very least helps you cast more Slivers. On top of that, his color identity gives you access to Gemhide Sliver + Heart Sliver, and Venom + Striking Sliver. Additionally, i'd drop in Muscle Sliver + Predatory Sliver. So if it wasn't evident from all the previous card choices and synergies I pointed out, i'd make an aggro deck. Maybe call it "Animar, Soul of the Hive" or something like that.

Yeah. Sorry about the super late response. Thanks again for commenting!

Hey LVL_666, I really love the art on your new Swords to Plowshares and you were asking for opinions on adding this one. Don't you think only exiling a creature is enough?

I don't know how many Planeswalkers are played in your meta/playgroup but I find myself swapping out cards all the time to find one with as much targets as possible. Therefore, cause you are running none of these cards, what do you think about Hero's Downfall or Dreadbore ? They both kill a creature, but an annoying Planeswalker as well.On the other hand Utter End is expensive with 4 cmc, but it hits everything, exiles and is instant. When you run Vindicate and Anguished Unmaking you should take the third of the cycle as well :)

and there are some nice arts for these ones, too: Utter End Heros Downfall

October 21, 2017 7:51 a.m.

Mortlocke says... #23

Juppe, I think the card choices you mentioned are awesome. They may have been mentioned to me in the past, but revisiting them I feel as though I want to include them in some way. I however, have no idea how to include them in this deck. As i'd have a hard time deciding on what to cut. I'm considering creating a sideboard, but I'm on the fence about it as the official rules state:

"Normally, sideboards are not allowed. Optionally, players may have a 10 card sideboard that they may use before the match after Generals are declared" -Source.

It's ether that, or I start cutting more Slivers from the deck and that's something I'm rather hesitant to do as their number continually dwindle to make room for more control cards. What're your thoughts? Should I actually include a sideboard?

October 22, 2017 8:47 p.m.

Juppe says... #24

LVL_666 first cut the Swords to Plowshares due to the other options beeing just better because of more targets..

I personally value a higher number of targets more than the mana cost. EDH/Commander is still a Multiplayer or at least slow format where cards such as Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares loose a lot of value they gain in the faster constructed formats (legacy, modern) in which they gain most of their power to being instant & only 1 mana :)

here are my suggestions and why to cut :)

  1. cut Swan Song for Utter End

reasons: swan song hits enchantments, instants, sorceries.. utter end hits everthing that's permanent..

  1. cut Swords to Plowshares for Hero's Downfall

reasons: Swords hits creatures, but downfall hits planeswalkers as well

All of what I said here and before is only a personal opinion and based on my personal meta-knowledge.. My groups play a lot of planeswalkers and few indestructible creatures or graveyard-return-effects, so exiling creatures is not necessary.

Mortlocke says... #25

Juppe,

"EDH/Commander is still a Multiplayer or at least slow format where cards such as Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares loose a lot of value"

Not in the meta where this deck exists. The Queen's Egg only faces tier 1 and 2 decks. Prossh, Skyraider of Kher or Animar, Soul of Elements are its regular adversaries. Swords to Plowshares is very CMC efficient, so it can help delay the adversaries' progress and leave me with additional options. Games generally don't last too long, maybe 4 to 6 turns but rarely no more than that. So as you can see, i'm rather hesitant on cutting it.

"cut Swan Song for Utter End"

So in this deck, counterspells are used often. At times, I am at a bit of a loss with Swan Song because it doesn't target everything. When Stax or Superfriends decks show up, I have trouble. I have been thinking of a replacement for Swan Song, ideally i'd like to swap it out for a different counterspell but for the time being I am considering Hero's Downfall over Utter End. The CMC is much higher than what i'd like to pay, but it does seem much more useful. Plus the icing on the cake is that sweet sweet promo art. So my final decision is Hero's Downfall in for Swan Song. What do you think of that?
