Deadpoo111 - thanks for correcting me. Yeah, what he said. Only $5 and you're good to go.

Mortlocke, thank you so much for the explanations! I think I'll consider slotting in Kindred Dominance for Toxic Deluge myself and am definitely going to run Unnatural Selection until my playgroup decides it's too ridiculous. Appreciate the quick response!

So I played this deck twice at about 78% completion and I'm loving it so far! The only thing I ran into is when using Sliver Overlord's ability after using Amoeboid Changeling with Crystalline Sliver in play, how are you getting around that? I've been trying to keep Quick Sliver and Hibernation Sliver so I can bounce Crystalline out for 2, and then flash it back in if I need to respond to a threat being cast. I was just curious whether there was a better way or not.

Also, is there a specific card you would recommend swapping out for Unnatural Selection?

Wicker - with Crystalline Sliver out on the field there is no getting around shroud. Instead, what I opt to do is change strategy. The next sliver i'd want on the battlefield is Sliver Hivelord. I would shift to a more "swing wide" strategy. I would try and get some effective evasion, and ultimately get Sliver Legion out. Your work around is pretty clever though. I like it.

As for what to swap out for Unnatural Selection? Interaction. Assassin's Trophy, Abrupt Decay, Path of Exile, the list goes on. Really, it depends on what you want in the deck.

Thank you so much for the response! That's good to know about the wide strat. Are you curently running Abrupt Decay and Path to Exile?

Mortlocke says... #6

Wicker - at the moment, no - i'm not using Abrupt Decay nor Path to Exile. But at one point I did run them. This list is what I run currently.

Thank you! Any thought to running Seedborn Muse in place of Homing Sliver? I was able to do some pretty wacky stuff with Sliver Overlord and Amoeboid Changeling every turn!

Wicker, Seedborn Muse has excellent synergy with Quick Sliver and is definitely a worthy inclusion (especially when Prophet of Kruphix is still banned). Slotting in Muse over Homing Sliver comes down to what's more important to your deck: Do you want increased consistency by having another tutor option when you can't get your commander out? Or Do you want to have an additional avenue of play by untapping your permanents between each turn?

I found my answer, as my inner vorthos is not keen to including non-slivers in this deck. But i'm curious as to what conclusion you will/have arrived at.

I've always wanted to try slivers (ever since my first 4 player game as a kid playing a 60 card Ravnica precon and getting my face smashed in by slivers) but am always wary of the instant "kill the slivers player" mentality. Is this overblown? How do you deal with the hate? I don't want to be hated out of every game before I have a chance to do much.

alexjustdoit: if people really feel the need to gang up against you then 1) you've already won. 2) find less salty people to play against.

slivers is pretty straightforward deck that plays creatures asap and turns them sideways. the only real way to "hate out" the deck is with a lot of removal, possibly board wipes. there are ways to protect your slivers from these spells and you'll likely have far more slivers than your opponents do removal spells, especially since they'll need to aim at least a few of those spells towards creatures controlled by other opponents.

alexjustdoit, ah so you fear the dreaded Sliver Hate™ (For more on this, refer to the "Strengths/Weaknesses" tab in the accordion under "The Inner Sanctum"). I agree with what Yarok and SliverJedi were hinting at - Politics are subjective - if you are playing Slivers, then in some playgroups you will be at a disadvantage. Mitigating this issue is actually quite simple: The turn 0 talk. Before the game starts you have an open discussion with your play group about your deck using the following structure:

  1. I'm playing Slivers. The deck can consistently threaten to win between turns x and y.
  2. I'm using x, y, and z cards (they could be Stasis, Winter Orb, anything really). Does anyone have any issue with me using them?

Note: You don't need to give away any strategies or key combos. Just name the cards you think players may take issue with. Then each other player will continue and describe their decks in a similar fashion. Once everyone is okay with what is being brought to the game, then most of the Sliver Hate™ should be mitigated. However, depending on how quickly your deck fires off you may still be at a political disadvantage.

Thanks all, that is reassuring! I might have to give it a go.

The amount of work you've put into this is astounding. My +1 hardly seems like enough :) Great work. And thank you for the ideas for my Overlord deck.

What would you say would be a good budget version of this deck? Something to build for not ULTRA expensive and build upon over time.

March 22, 2020 6:42 p.m.

Mortlocke says... #17

MarkLaF, a budget version of this deck? What would be the price range? Because honestly the majority of the cost lies within the manabase (namely the fetches, Gaea's Cradle, and the original duals). Outside of that and maybe the Mana Crypt (The Mystery Booster printing has brought down the price from what it was previously), everything is what I would consider "affordable" (a single card being at most $30). I'll put some thought into an alternate build.

MarkLaF says... #18

Oh definitely. I have slowly been building up my land collection in order to build more Commander decks, I have at least 4 5-Color Decks that I want to build so I know that the landbase is always going to be the biggest chunk of change. Let's say someone has stuff like the Temples, Refuge, Fastlands, etc what would you say is a decent placeholder for the more expensive cards?

Additionally, what are some changes you'd make to speed the deck up at that point? Like adding Cryptolith Rites, Chromatic Lantern, etc?

Slayroth says... #19

MarkLaF I am using Mortlocke's list as inspiration for my one since 2 years <3, but don't want to (or better said can't) put the money in fetches and originals duals. So maybe my list can give you a good starting point since it uses his as a "template" with a way lower budget in mind. Slayver Hive 4.0

But I have to say I was fortunate enough to get a lot of the cards before they startet rising in prise drastically. For example Sliver Queen, Sliver Legion and stuff like vampiric Tutor and scroll rack, there are a few cards in the list that are definitely way over 30$ unfortunately...

TheMr42 says... #20

Though I'm lucky enough to have some original duals from yesteryear I can't yet justify splashing out on a Gaea's Cradle. Itlimoc does a budget impersonation, but doesn't use a land slot in deckbuilding. If I may, what would be your "budget" alternative?

March 25, 2020 11:41 p.m.

Mortlocke says... #21

TheMr42, honestly Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip was the budget swap in for Gaea's Cradle. There are relatively few cards in magic that can do what Cradle does. Now, depending on your build Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx can be an honorable mention as devotion can really add up under the right circumstances - but unfortunately now that card is about $20-ish dollars.

a new tool to consider. But imo it's obviously not worth cutting mana echoes and patriarchs bidding for it.

What are your thoughts on the ultimatum cycle so far? Eerie and Ruinous both look good to me, but there cmc is really high. Ruinous is the same cmc as an overloaded rift for the same effect but its all colored mana, so I don't know. http://www.mythicspoiler.com/iko/sorceries.html

Slayroth, honestly Wellspring doesn't interest me at all. But what has my attention and curiosity is: Fierce Guardianship A free Negate? Sign me up.

The_Munchkin,

The previously mentioned cycle is interesting, but not quite close to the ground enough for this decks' requirements. But what does have my attention (I definitely want to try this card out) is: Song of CreationIt looks like it could potentially ramp this deck into overdrive if the right cards are out on the field to support it. In an ideal scenario i'd have Gemhide Sliver and Heart Sliver on the board to provide a decent source of mana. If I were to end up in a situation where I draw into nothing and discard my hand I could use Overlord's tutor ability to get a low cmc sliver to start the draw engine once again. Regardless, it looks like a fun card, and I enjoy Noah Bradley's art. I'm going to pick up a copy in foil when it becomes available - for the collectability at least.
