The_Munchkin Oh, and this is definitely more of a note to myself but i'd cut Mystic Remora for testing out the previously mentioned Song of Creation. Obviously Negate will be cut for Fierce Guardianship

Sliver decks look like they are one of the most terrifying decks to go up against. I've heard rumors they are bringing them back to standard.

Frosto, I'll admit Slivers can appear to be very tough but their strength lies entirely within which Sliver you can get out onto the battlefield. Honestly, a Leovold, Emissary of Trest (good riddance) stax or a Thrasios, Triton Hero // Tymna the Weaver cEDH deck worries me. A friend of mine also built a very tuned Najeela, Blade-Blossom deck that always gives me a hard time. I guess that's the beauty of this format in that there is always something just as - or even scarier than what you bring to the table.

As for Slivers coming back to standard. Where'd you hear that rumor? Because that would be the one thing to make me actually come back and play standard. I haven't played standard since the first Mirrodin block (It was called Type 2 (T2) back then). If Wizards is bringing back my babies then i've gotta be there to support them. Or at the very least buy a foil copy of each sliver.

It was mostly just comments on the internet. People say the same for the Eldrazi cards. I can only take it as a 50/50.

Nice looking deck

Your deck has inspired me to start a deck of my own. Not as cool, but hey, it’ll do. Commander is sliver queen. There are a few combos, infinite, and not infinite. Deck isn’t complete, but go check out The Combo Hive

I was gonna upvote your deck but looks like I've already done so a while back! Great deck as always!

I recommend Deflecting Swat

noctis366, you're in my head. I'm contemplating swapping that in for Counterspell. But Counterspell is something of a pet card of mine. But due to the competitive nature of this deck, I must put it in. What do you think? That a good choice? Or should I swap out Countersquall?

See, with deflecting swat, you can redirect removal spells to your opponents creatures, making them remove their own creatures. I would put it in for countersquall

Yarok, noctis366 - its done. I appreciate your input, both of you. Now I have to go through the trouble of getting a Deflecting Swat along with a Fierce Guardianship. Yeesh.

Got a Fierce Guardianship, Deadly Rollick and need to also get a Deflecting Swat. Some good support cards from the new commander sets

Doombeard1984, Yarok, As much as I absolutely enjoy Deadly Rollick limiting my targeting options to just creatures only wouldn't be as beneficial. Since this deck is considering a cEDH meta my concern would be primarily non-creature permanents. I turned in a bunch of foils I've picked up from opening up half a box of Mystery Booster packs and sent them in to Card Kingdom. I can at the very least pay for a Fierce Guardianship outright in store credit, but i'll have to pay out of pocket for each Deflecting Swat (I need 2). But after that I should be good. My other want for this deck is a DCI Judge Promo Counterspell, (I don't think tappedout actually has the DCI promo version scanned up) but it's always circulating around $30 US. I'm definitely going to get one as Counterspell is a pet card of mine that I just adore - it shaped my experience in Magic when I first started playing around 2001-2002. I was playing mostly T2 then, but I rocked a casual U/B Wizards deck which contained whole host of counter-magics. Ah, memories.

Mortlocke, Yarok - Well, i have actually just bought the commander deck for the Deflecting Swat... easiest way to get it lol. I need to think about what my hive now needs to have taken out. I am a little confused. Cuts are sometimes very deep and painful to make hahaha. Any advice would be much appreciated. As to what you said Mortlocke, I have a very similar kind of...kinship with Forgotten Ancient. not a competitive card in anyway shape or form. But damn, my days a Timmy when i was a wee boy. Them were the days.

Stay safe Hivelings

Doombeard1984, here's my rationale for cutting cards, hopefully it'll assist you in your choices:

  1. For the card you wish to include, consider all cards in the deck that have similar functionality.
  2. Compare and contrast - what does the card up for the cut do that the new card doesn't? Is that additional functionality worth keeping it?
      Example: Countersquall vs. Deflecting Swat
    • Squall targets non-creature spells, Swat targets all spells OR Abilities that have an intended target.
    • Countersquall damages an opponent for 2 life, but also has a more restrictive cost in being U/B
    • Deflecting Swat is free when the commander is on board (not as useful early game). But, has a very splashable cost at 2R - which isn't too restrictive of a cost - when compared to Countersquall.
  3. Knowing your deck and your meta, decide on what to keep based on what you know you will see more often than not.

I feel kinship with a lot of cards. Some of them are... Xantcha, Sleeper Agent, Yarok, the Desecrated, Thief of Sanity, Gargos, Vicious Watcher, Helm of the Host.

I’m WAY to attached to my cards ;(

Yarok says... #22

I feel the most kinship towards Liliana Vess(Which I had a copy of before someone scammed me ;( I was a noob back then, don’t judge me). She was my first card, and the best card I had back then. She inspired my first mono black deck, and got me into magic.

Mortlocke says... #23

Yarok, I hear ya when it comes to that special kinship. My suggestion is to try and narrow it down to a select few when it comes to deck. Try the Marie Kondo method - hold the card in your hands and ask yourself "Does this spell spark joy?" if not? Then you know you can cut it.

How do you feel about Sylvan Scrying VS Nature's Lore as low cost ramp. I like how Sylvan Scrying could get me a Cavern of Souls or in your case a cradle. But I feel like Nature's Lore putting a forest into play is simply just more efficient ramp.

Thanks!
