First of all, I think both are amazing ramp cards, and good to have. Second, I have a deck that I am trying to make popular ( like the queen’s egg, but probably not as successful), and I need some ppl to go check it out. Also, would anyone be willing to feature it? The deck is

bigrigroy,

"How do you feel about Sylvan Scrying VS Nature's Lore as low cost ramp."

Lore is the better option because it doesn't take the 1 Land being played during your main phase, while Scrying does. The ability to tutor for literally any land is powerful, and can definitely be helpful in a pinch - but I wouldn't consider Sylvan Scrying ramp, more so mana fixing/utility.

@Mortlocke Spent about a days worth of time on the descriptions. Thanks for your help, it is looking good imo

Unnatural Selection seems 9000x better than the changeling.

Change my mind

bigrigroy, I think you should watch what you say about Amoeboid Changeling, he gets SUPER triggered real easy when you bring up Unnatural Selection...oh wait. Uh oh...I think he heard you!

enter image description here

I couldn't help myself. So, let me bring up the simple pros and cons for each card.

Unnatural Selection

  • Pro: Is an Enchantment, and is harder to remove
  • Pro: Can fire off multiple times each turn for the low cost of per target
  • Con: Does literally nothing when Sliver Overlord is not on the battlefield. Additionally - can be considered a dead card when in an opening hand
  • Con: Cannot be tutored by Sliver Overlord. Would have to use a Demonic Tutor or Enlightened Tutor to fetch, instead of a game ending piece such as Mana Echoes, Sliver Queen, or any other mana rock that can advance your boardstate

Amoeboid Changeling

  • Pro: Can be tutored by Sliver Overlord, reserving other tutors in hand for more important pieces to fetch
  • Pro: Gains all benefits from other Slivers in play - possessing all the keywords and abilities, like a real sliver
  • Pro: In the rare edge cases where creature type matters for an ability to fire, Changeling can remove all creature types from a single target (e.g. - Shutting off Najeela, the Blade-Blossom's ability so that she can't fire off and create an infinite amount of Warrior tokens - yes, i've done this.)
  • Con: Has a puny weak 1/1 body, and can easily be removed.
  • Con: Has no real useful ability that makes it useful by itself.

To sum up my argument Selection is a gimmick that can't contribute outside of enabling Overlord to steal creatures. By itself, it just sits on the board taking up space not contributing. Worse yet, in hand it is a dead card that you don't want to cast unless you have Overlord on the field. Changeling is better because it's more than just a gimmick. Barely more, but it can contribute to your board in different ways by using the abilities of the other Slivers in play. Additionally, Overlord (OR Homing Sliver) can easily tutor it up - saving those valuable in hand tutors for other way more important spells.

Parry, reposte. - what say you now after reading that?

Incredibly well structured argument. I love custom Amoeboid btw. I guess I just personally like the idea of "win more" or rather "steal more" lol.

I do think I'll still be trying to playtest unnatural selection for myself once all this quarantine shenanigans is over and I can go to my LGS but I'll keep your words of advice in mind!

bigrigroy, I think you hit the nail on the head - Selection is representative of a "win more" deck building concept while Changeling is more about versatility/deck synergy.

With you on that @Mortlocke. Also of course, if you are running Crystalline Sliver you won't be able to steal with Sliver Overlord, so again, in that respect, Unnatural Selection is wholly dead card, amoeboid changling is at least a bod that triggers abilities and can be more than just a 1/1.

Also, heres a picture of my custom Amoeboid Rockstar my friend did for me [ROCKER AND HIS CHICK] (http://Amoeboid Rockstar and his burb https://imgur.com/gallery/RGN1Hdi "enter image title here")

Yarok, you don't know what "Hit the Nail on the Head" means? Well, it means "you've found exactly the right answer." Basically I was saying that bigrigroy's analysis of Unnatural Selection as a "Win more" card is the right conclusion or analysis in the context of a Sliver Overlord EDH deck. Hope that clears up your confusion.

Doombeard1984, forgot to even mention the ol' non-bo of Crystalline Sliver and Unnatural Selection. Yeah, that definitely would be a less than ideal situation. BUT at the very least you can use Selection to deny an opponent the chance to target one of their own creatures for an equip with a Sword of Feast and Famine for example. But yeah...that's still less than ideal. Oh and to post your image, try using the "Direct Link" option in imgur. LOL

Doombeard1984, haha, nice. I love it. My dream Amoeboid Changeling would be an alter that makes the Changeling look like a Sliver - but still maintain the aesthetic of it's original form.

So...what do you think of the new rules coming for commander concerning death triggers for commanders? Child of Alara and Elenda, the Dusk Rose (a deck i have remade because if the rule changes) become much more interesting cards to work with

Mortlocke says... #19

Doombeard1984, I think the rules change for "entering the graveyard" also being able to trigger in the command zone is a simple, yet elegant change that only serves to promote and improve the health of EDH/Commander. That simple change has empowered so many lower tier commanders - and has changed up the meta. I'm excited to see the nightmare that will be Yosei, the Morning Star stax or Elenda, the Dusk Rose being able to fire off with more consistency and with better tools at it's disposal. Speaking of Elenda, have you seen that crazy price spike of hers? According to MTGoldfish she went up 17%

Doombeard1984 says... #20

I have seen Mortlocke. I was lucky to still have her from my very old terrible version of a deck with her lol. I got her for pretty much bulk rare price. Same for Child of Alara. Will be interesting to see the markets react. I also totally agree that this change will be a very healthy alteration to EDH. Always found it weird commanders didn't work the way the felt they should do.

Hey! About Skyshroud Claim, isn't It too High 4 cmc? Have you ever thought about replacing it with Carpet of Flowers?

June 13, 2020 2:59 a.m.

TonyStark9001 says... #23

abierto: cmc 4 isn't that high in commander. and the ramp from Skyshroud Claim is so much better than Carpet of Flowers. your opponent may not even have islands. Skyshroud Claim can search for dual lands and thins the deck. the extra mana can also be used outside of your main phase, unlike Carpet of Flowers.

TonyStark9001 Since this deck is cEDH oriented, 4cmc for a ramp is way too much. Wasting a 3rd or 4th turn just for some ramp doesn't feel too much right for me... Usually at 4th/5th turn people are aiming to close their game... And with Skyshroud you just... ramped.

abierto, you forgot the 2nd part - I then tutor for the mana that I need to cast interaction during that other player's turn when they attempt to fire off. I get that Skyshroud is definitely not one of the optimum cEDH choices when it comes to ramp - but I don't quite have the money yet for Three Visits. To be fair, TonyStark9001 did point out the primary reason why Skyshroud is still in here - I get two ABU lands in play untapped.
