Thanks for the reply :) I kinda figured that you would say the fetches are a must have even without the original duals. I think i will get them this year...ofc depending on the way they handle the "reprint ouside of standard" ...I hope it's not an other premium product...
I also hope Cavern of Souls gets a reprint in Commander Legends! This card is way to expensive and I'm still missing it for my Deck.
Regarding my reason for Silvers in commander. I dipped into magic a little bit around 2004-05ish in school. A friend of mine had a sliver Deck and they always fascinated me back then. When I was introduced to commander by new friends 3 years ago I directly remembered the Slivers from back then and the cool Sliver Overlord and Sliver Queen my school friend had. The decision to build a commander deck out of them was a nobrainer at that point and the research lead me to this page really fast :D
Random side fact: when I was about to purchase my Sliver Queen in 2018 I first asked my friend if he still has his cards and if he is willing to sell them if yes..... yeah it's the same old story... he couldn't find them and thinks his ex-girlfriend tossed them away because she thought they were trash. facepalm A few weeks later I got my Sliver Queen as a birthday present from the parents of my girlfriend lmao funny how this goes :D Now the card is like 80€+ in europe in good condition. I think the next time new slivers are introduced fingeres crossed the prices will skyrocket even more then when modern horizons came out.
Btw any time I say "new slivers" at my table my friends are all like "why do you want even more" or "what can even be done, they already have everything" xD I bet you get those a lot to

hey, sry... me again ^^'
Would you mind explaining how valuable Engineered Explosives is to you? It just got reprinted and I'am thinking about grabbing one. Is it an all around good card for Sliver decks in gerneral or is it more of a meta pick for you?
September 1, 2020 6:05 a.m.
Hey Slayroth,
Always good to hear from ya. So how valuable is Engineered Explosives? Well, it's more of a quirky mass removal option that I enjoy keeping on hand for political reasons. If someone is playing a token heavy commander like Prossh, Skyraider of Kher or is running Food Chain I enjoy just having an easy removal option that also makes an opponent think twice. It by no means is an essential card in the deck, but I've found it useful, especially for removing permanents with hexproof/shroud.
September 3, 2020 2:50 a.m.
I’ve stumbled across Lifeline. My meta has become very small due to the pandemic and for a variety of reasons including Crystalline Sliver and Sliver Hivelord, removal has moved toward sacrifice/exile effects. Outside of Tajuru Preserver which killed the theme, there’s little recourse for recurring Fleshbag Marauder. I understand there’s symmetry, which I remember being a turn-off for you in relation to Intruder Alarm but Lifeline seems to be a sure fire way to keep slivers in play without relying on coin flipping or having Patriarch's Bidding.
September 17, 2020 4:14 a.m.
A little confused as to why you suggested Slivers I already have in the deck and some filthy non-slivers - but Lifeline is truly a curious card. One I've definitely never seen before, so thank you for that. I decided to look up it's errata'd text and just as you said, it is an ability that all opponents can take advantage of:
Whenever a creature dies, if another creature is on the battlefield, return the first card to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.
So that "Your graveyard" verbiage simply doesn't exist - meaning like the previously mentioned Intruder Alarm someone else could potentially win the game before me if they make the right play (or I simply make the wrong one). Interesting and fun card - just not necessarily a competitive one in my opinion. For , I need a Paradox Engine (rest in peace my sweet baby) level of impact.
September 17, 2020 12:33 p.m.
Mortlocke, sorry for the confusion. I meant in my current meta, it seems everyone is packing shroud/hexproof/indestructible so removal has gone to sacrifice effects/exile/and Toxic Deluge. My thought was it makes it less appealing to run Marauder loops or similar effects if all it did was keep creatures off the board until end of turn. The CMC I agree is a little pricey but so is watching a board wiped courtesy of sacrifice effects. Frenetic Sliver is a great answer to Settle the Wreckage but my deck does not pack a lot of graveyard recursion. I appreciate the feedback and miss the Engine as well.
September 17, 2020 6:46 p.m.
Lifeline is actually such a fun card :D I run it in my Gonti deck and it changes the game completely as everyone has to think really out of the box when it's on the field. I can always see how my friend's brains are melting when it's not immediately removed :D But yeah I don't run it in my Sliver Deck for the reasons above.
Btw Mortlocke have you seen the new foiling that is comming for Commander Legends? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG3p0xlcQJU They confirmed that they will do this for about 30 existing "community favorite commanders" I'm crossing my fingers so hard...i want this on Sliver Overlord so bad, it looks amazing!

good day to you Mortlocke. Hope you are keeping safe in these mad Phyrexian times.
So I am after some opinion. I have managed to purchase a Survival of the Fittest. Awesome card. Do you feel this is something worth going into a Sliver deck? If I could maybe pick your Hive brain, would be super appreciative
Cheers

Doombeard1984, sorry for taking a little bit to get back to you. My life situation has changed dramatically in the past few months - my family and I moved to a different country - so I haven't been able to play as much Magic or be on Tappedout as much as I've used to in the past. I'm definitely doing my best to keep safe. Thanks for the kind words, I hope you and yours are doing well.
As for Survival of the Fittest, I must admit that i've never had the pleasure or displeasure of playing a deck that used it. But I think I see some synergy between it and Dregscape Sliver. Ideally, you could pitch some Slivers that you can recur onto the battlefield to form a combo - (i.e. Heart Sliver, Gemhide Sliver, Basal Sliver, and Sliver Queen) - you could avoid having to pay each creature's CMC due to the replacement cost of Unearth. As an added bonus, Unearth and SotF being activated abilites, counter magic would be at a loss most of the time, unless you're dealing with a meta running spells like Voidslime or Disallow.
Oh, and in case you're wondering "You may activate the unearth ability of a card in your graveyard no matter how it wound up in your graveyard." I'll admit that I needed to look up some rulings on Unearth, as I didn't fully understand the conditions for it to trigger.

Glad you are keeping safe Mortlocke, the world is a proper messed up place at the moment. Where have you moved too out of Curiosity? If you are in UK, once GPs comeback, we can tag team sliver some peoples lol.
Thanks for the advice as well, appreciate it as always.
Stay safe
October 6, 2020 4:38 p.m.
That brings me back. My 2nd deck ever was Tim, Curiosity, and Mind Over Matter. But I digress, I moved to Germany but I have friends in Scotland so it's likely i'll end up in the UK to visit once all this mess has died down. I hope you do get some use out of Survival of the Fittest - it'd be the first time i've ever seen it used in a Sliver tribal deck - I think you would get away with some epic plays that would break the mold of what players would expect from a Sliver deck.
Stay safe as well!

Awesome deck, great description, and I absolutely love what you did with the CSS :) Those images in the accordion block are amazing.

Thank you for the kind words ellie-is! It took me a long time to get this deck to where it is, and is definitely my crown jewel in my Magic collection. If you like what i've done with the CSS, don't hesitate to check out my other deck pages! Since you enjoy images in accordions, I think you'll really like what I did with my Zacama deck: The Predator of Predators.

Hey Mortlocke! I hope you're doing well.
I am curious on your opinion of the bond lands, especially now that the cycle was completed with Commander Legends. Would you consider replacing the filter lands you have such as Mystic Gate? I am inclined to think the bond lands are better since they give a color immediately and are almost always coming in untapped unless the game is down to only two people. What are your thoughts?

Doombeard1984 says... #17
Personally The_Munchkin I totally agree. I use them in my Sliver deck myself (although OG duals are thw dream).
January 21, 2021 10:05 a.m.
Hey The_Munchkin, thanks for reaching out. I'm doing pretty good all things considered. My family and I recently moved to Germany and are still getting accustomed to all the changes. My opinion of the bondlands? They're amazing lands that are either on par with Shocklands, or maybe one slight tier behind them (think a "B" as compared to a "B-" in terms of grade or rank). What holds them back is that they're not typed, and there are definitely scenarios where they would always enter tapped. But despite these drawbacks they're amazing lands that I plan to own a playset of. Would I consider replacing the filterlands in the deck for bondlands? No. Let me explain, Most of the time when I play this deck it's 1v1. I have a friend who runs a cEDH Najeela, the Blade-Blossom, and we absolutely enjoy playing with power. Obviously the bondlands would be a significant step down for me if I were to replace them with the given context. However, in decks where i'm almost always going to be in multiplayer (typically online) I'm absolutely using bondlands. So really it all boils down to meta. If this deck were to start seeing more multiplayer then i'd definitely revisit the filterlands.
Hey Doombeard1984, always good to hear from you. I just decided to give one of the OG cEDH "power" cards a try - Carpet of Flowers. The deck I usually end up playing against is 5c, and regularly plays islands. Worst case scenario I can force my opponent to make suboptimal plays by tutoring for "non-islands" - if they can't help it. That's the theory anyway. What're your thoughts on the change? (also I swapped in Wooded Bastion in for Mystic Gate to balance out the mana, but that's not as significant of a change).

Hi Mortlocke,
I think Carpet of Flowers is a good card, and I genuinely have thought about getting one myself. Free mana, that forces your opponent into tight and awkward situations, I am good with that. In my meta, people do play Islands etc, however, just havent had chance to get out and try it out. You will have to let me know how you get on with it

Love the deck, as I said before. Just finished putting together my own. I would love some feedback and what else I could cut or add in. Much like yourself I put in Volrath's Stronghold for flavor and Sliver Hive as well.

Hi Mortlocke,
What do you think of the new card from Kaldheim: The Prismatic Bridge ? Would you consider running it or its CMC
February 8, 2021 2:57 p.m.
Legion_The_Wall, The Prismatic Bridge is an interesting card - one that slipped by me during the Kaldheim spoilers/leaks. Would I run it in this deck? No. Here's a breakdown/tangent of my thoughts:
-
The turn you cast the Bridge it does literally nothing.
-
The average creature CMC is somewhere around 3 mana. Bridge 's effect isn't necessarily going to net a ton of value if it procs and puts a 3 (or less) CMC creature on the field. On the blue moon when it hits a 4 or a 5 drop it'll be a worthwhile trigger - it's just unfortunate that i'd have to wait a whole turn to potentially get it.
-
Bridge is more oriented toward commander decks that run a large number of high cmc, big flashy creatures or maybe 5 color superfriends. In the context of Slivers - especially competitive Sliver tribal - there are far better options.
The Prismatic Bridge is a cool card with a very fun design. Thanks for bringing it my attention!

Hey Mortlocke!
While perusing the Gatherer for cards I stumbled on Synapse Sliver . have you ever considered this for your deck? it seeps pretty powerful, except for the fact that its a combat damage trigger. Do you think this is reason enough to exclude it? it might end up in my deck as a replacement for some of the more expensive card draw pieces you have in yours.

Always good to have a comment from you, Slayroth
In regards to your question, enpc pretty much hit all the points I'd make. But, to summarize - Fetchlands provide an overwhelming advantage to your deck by providing you best in class mana fixing on demand (Which is beyond a doubt the most important thing in a 5 color deck!). The cumulative life loss from fetching shocks in untapped is negligible in the long run because you will be able to consistently threaten to win at least 1 to 2 turns earlier than with your current mana base. Also, as enpc pointed out earlier - you don't always have to bring the shocks in tapped.
On a (slighty) unrelated note I am so appreciative and flattered that you chose to base your first deck off of mine. Slivers made a huge impression on me when I first encountered them back in Legions (during the Onslaught block). Their design, art, and lore really drew me to them - kind of like when you gravitate toward a specific character in a fighting game - you see them in the select screen, and without even knowing a thing about them you just know that's your main. This is my first EDH deck as well, and it has evolved with me as a player and a person over the years. Anywho, I appreciate the comment and the question - i'm hoping that the answer you received is satisfactory, and inspired you to make a decision - one way or the other.
