Maybeboard

Built this deck a while ago, but I decided it needed to be witnessed.

So my surname is Chandler. There is a legendary creature from Homelands named Chandler. It was kismet. Like Moses on Mount Sinai, I was given a divine mandate- to create the most glorious EDH deck the world had ever known, and forevermore bring honor to my family name.

However as with all great heroes' journeys, the creation of this ultimate deck was not without its trials and tribulations. Chief among them being, much like the rest of the travesty that was Homelands, Chandler fucking sucks. He's a 5-drop 3/3 whose only ability is that you can tap him and pay 3 red to... destroy an artifact creature. And yea, the haters did ridicule and laugh. "Why would you waste time and money building a deck around such an ineffective nothing of a card", they said. "That's one of the worst ideas I've ever heard", they said. Well, now that my masterwork is complete, I am the one laughing. They will surely cower in awe before Chandler's dominance. I'm fairly confident that with this deck, we can consider the game of Magic 'solved'.

Okay, the deck still sucks. But! I'm having fun playing with it nonetheless. My one and only goal for this deck was to build around Chandler in a way that would actually involve him, and allow him to use his meager ability to its greatest effect. Because as I was building this I realized that it was all too easy to build a mono-red artifacts deck that worked better without him, as pretty much every card in this deck is better than him. But with an unnecessary amount of luck, tutoring, and combo magic, we can turn Chandler into the force of destruction he was always meant to be.

The basic gist here is that I crammed pretty much every tutor available in mono-red into this deck, with the goal of finding and playing what I have dubbed the 'Chandler Three'- Braid of Fire , Mycosynth Lattice , and Thornbite Staff . And yes, I do know that requiring a three-card combo to even get off the ground is the sign of a great EDH deck, thank you for asking. We hope to get Braid out as early as possible to really start building our red mana base (Braid gives you a cumulative red mana during your upkeep, which you can't use to play non-instant spells but you CAN use to activate Chandler's ability). You then move on to PHASE TWO- Making everything an artifact with Lattice, and using the staff to make sure that Chandler untaps each time he destroys a creature, allowing him to keep on killing stuff til you run out of mana or creatures to kill. Of course the entire thing is completely dependent on opponents not removing any of these pieces, so again, we're talking rock-solid strategy here.

Beyond that core combo, the other cards in the deck mostly fall into one of the following categories-

  • Lots of tutors and draw spells to help us find what we need,

  • Combo enablers, stuff like Karn, Silver Golem to make everything a Chandler target and Vedalken Orrery to let us use that Braid mana for everything else,

  • Burn spells to do damage,

  • Ability and artifact copiers,

  • Other ways to untap Chandler,

  • Mana rocks and ramp,

  • A few protection and pillowfort cards,

  • Other wincons like Hellkite Tyrant , because let's be honest, Chandler ain't always gonna get it done,

  • Artifact synergy and reanimation,

  • Board sweepers for when all else fails (which is often), and of course,

  • Joven .

So there you have it folks, the greatest Chandler EDH deck ever made. Perhaps even the greatest MTG deck ever made. I'll let history decide.
