Black and green deck focusing on poison counters for the opponent and -1/-1 counters for the opponent's creatures.
Synergizing two different ways to play this deck (fast and brutal with the cheap creatures and instant buffs OR slow and debilitating with -1/-1 counters) helps deal with different decks and opponents.
STRATEGIES:
Black: Produce -1/-1 counters through various cards, effects, and creatures.
Green: Use instant power buffs to deal heavy infect damage to opponent if things are left unblocked. If blocked, my creatures will put -1/-1 counters on my opponents creatures which will prove deadly due to
Crumbling Ashes
and Blowfly Infestation.
CARDS:
-1/-1 Cards:
Crumbling Ashes
, Blowfly Infestation,
Virulent Wound
,
Grim Affliction
,
Fume Spitter
,
Necropede
. These cards deal with -1/-1 counters in some way. Ashes and Blowfly work wonders once the counters are placed on even one creature. Wound and the two creatures (and even my other infect creatures) help put the counters on.
Instant Buffs: Invigorate, Vines of Vastwood.
These pump up my creatures if left unblocked. Especially deadly on
Putrefax
!
Undying Evil Brings back a creature. This could be Putrefax for a nice blocker on my opponent's next turn or a Spitter or Necropede to give out more -1/-1 counters (say if Blowfly isn't out yet, but Ashes is).
Creatures: Phyrexian Crusader Pretty cheap. First strike is nice and so is the protection.
Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon Not sure if this is really needed but it regenerates itself and is a flying infector if I need that option.
Ichorclaw Myr If left unblocked because it would get buffed inherently (to 3/3 potentially killing something or giving counters and then death with Ashes), it will probably get buffed anyway with Vines and/or Invigorate to hit for 5 to 9 poison counters.
Hand of the Praetors
Strengthens my infect creatures and gives poison counters if I play more cheap infect creatures.
Most of the things here are cheap in the way of CMC. I can do a lot on my turn and even leave a ton of mana open for my opponent's turn for things like Undying Evil and Vines of Vastwood.
THOUGHTS: To keep things quick and efficient, should I remove Skithiryx and/or Hand of the Praetors for more Ichorclaw Myrs, Necropedes, or Phyrexian Crusaders?
Is there a place in here for
Wild Defiance
? This combos nicely with my instant buffs and pretty much forces my opponent to block with something or that 1/1 Ichorclaw becomes an 8/8 infect... Not exactly sure what to remove for it. Maybe Grim Afflicition?
