Community Set Project: Solas Mechanics

Unknown*

Femme_Fatale

This is the page for the Solas tribe for the T/O Community Set Project. Full description will be made momentarily.

The Solas are a tribe of elementals. These are not to be confused with the boros. These are not aggro elementals. There are only fire and air elementals, and the lore (it is quite long) for them is as follows.

[Show Solas Lore]

Now, the main idea for the Solas tribe is to use Soulbond to depict their relationships they have with each other. The Soulbond will have elemental tribal elements added on to them.

  • The Kindler —
  • Creature — Elemental
  • Flying
  • Soulbond (You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired for as long as you control both of them.)
  • As long as The Kindler is paired with another creature, each of those creatures gets +1/+1. If both of those creatures are Elementals, they get +2/+2 instead.
  • 1/2

  • The Great Eternal —
  • Creature — Elemental
  • Flying
  • Creatures you control that aren't paired get +3/+3.
  • "I've been drifting along the Aurora of Fiery Wind without a partner for eternity. No cry has caught my interest. No significant other has riled passion in me. I spend my days transporting the grounds-folk across this land, learning and listening to their stories, reveling in the desires their mortality beckons in them.
  • 2/2

  • The Aurora of Fiery Wind —
  • Legendary Enchantment
  • Paired creatures you control get +1/+1. If both creatures in a pair are elementals, they get +2/+2 and have flying instead.

  • CARDNAME —
  • Creature — Elemental
  • First strike
  • Soulbond (You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired for as long as you control both of them.)
  • As long as CARDNAME is paired with another creature, each of those creatures gets haste. If both of those creatures are Elementals, they get +1/+1 as well.
  • 2/1

  • Newborn Flame —
  • Creature — Elemental
  • Soulbond (You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired for as long as you control both of them.)
  • As long as Newborn Flame is paired with another creature, each of those creatures gains ": This creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn." If both of those creatures are Elementals, they get +0/+1 as well.
  • 1/1

  • Heretic Desirer —
  • Creature — Elemental
  • Flying
  • Heretic Desirer can not be paired with another creature.
  • "My love cannot be among her own tribe. They call her a heretic. The Solas don't discriminate among who our passion directs us to, so why do the other tribes express repulsion, and express it violently?"
  • 4/5

  • Cry of the Newborn —
  • Instant
  • Choose one —
  • Cry of the Newborn deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
  • Exile target creature you control, then return it to the battlefield.

  • Kindling Wind —
  • Instant
  • Choose one —
  • Target creature gets +0/+2 until end of turn.
  • Target creature gets +2/+0 until end of turn.
  • If the targeted creature is red, it gains haste until end of turn.

A side theme that runs with the Solas throughout both sets is the presence of a lot more aura's than normal. These auras are particularly powerful in that they buff two creatures instead of one, as long as they are paired, and further more of a benefit if they are elementals.

  • Undying Love —
  • Enchantment — Aura
  • Enchant creature
  • Enchanted creature has Lifelink. If the enchanted creature is paired with another creature, both of those creatures have lifelink. If both of those creatures are elementals, they get +1/+1 as well.

  • Undying Passion —
  • Enchantment — Aura
  • Enchant creature
  • Enchanted creature has first strike. If the enchanted creature is paired with another creature, both of those creatures have first strike. If both of those creatures are elementals, they get +2/+0 as well.

  • Polyamory —
  • Enchantment — Aura
  • Enchant Creature
  • If enchanted creature has soulbond, it can pair with another creature. (It's pairing effects apply once for each creature it is soulbonded to.)

  • Undying Resolve —
  • Enchantment — Aura
  • Enchant creature
  • Enchanted creature has haste. If the enchanted creature is paired with another creature, both of those creatures have vigilance. If both of those creatures are elementals, they get +1/+0 as well.

  • Eternal Fortitude —
  • Enchantment — Aura
  • Enchant creature
  • Enchanted creature has vigilance. If the enchanted creature is paired with another creature, both of those creatures have vigilance. If both of those creatures are elementals, they get +0/+2 as well.

  • Elemental Protection —
  • Enchantment — Aura
  • Enchant creature
  • When Undying Care enters the battlefield, choose a colour.
  • Enchanted creature has protection from the colour of your choice. If the enchanted creature is paired with another creature, both of those creatures have protection from the colour of your choice. If both of those creatures are elementals, they get +1/+1 as well.

  • Undying Desire —
  • Enchantment — Aura
  • Enchant creature
  • Enchanted creature has double strike. If the enchanted creature is paired with another creature, both of those creatures have double strike. If both of those creatures are elementals, they get +2/+1 as well.

Okay, potential new idea for the Solas post-war. I choose this idea because I thought that the elementals would figure out how to develop bonds with other creatures with ease, using them for purposes of war. Interesting thing about this ability is that you can bond with opposing creatures or your own creatures, allowing an enchantment buff to apply to more than one creature, or acting as a way to prevent removal, or become pseudo removal. Note that I am wording all of my auras to say soulbonded instead of paired to prevent the aura's benefits from applying twice to a creature that is paired with shared fate.

  • Fate Entwined —
  • Instant
  • Until end of turn, two target creatures share changes in power, toughness, abilities and their game zone only once.
  • "This magic ... it scares me. When I look at the Fior, I can't help but draw lines of similarity between our relationships with them, and this magic."

  • Fate Reader —
  • Creature — Elemental
  • Flying
  • Shared Fate (You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. As long as they are paired, changes in the power, toughness, abilities or zone of only one creature also applies to the paired creature as long as that change doesn't require the creatures to be paired.)
  • Whenever Fate Reader attacks, it gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
  • 3/4

Recently, I have been completely unavailable due to life kicking me in the pussy and making me incredibly busy. I feel that I am available for discussion of these mechanics, but can't guarantee anything at the moment.
