Did you run this deck during Game Day or FNM?

FNM. I had appointment on Saturday and couldn't play the GD :/

Going to play my RDW tonight at FNM.

Have you thought about adding Pyromancer's Goggles?

snarlmkiv goggles in mono red aggro!? U must be on drugs... Its like way too expensive and way too slow. You could add it in in a higher curve deck maybe. I personally think the card is a bit overrated.

Exactly the reason why I asked him about his thoughts on adding Goggles because I wanted some opinions on Pyromancer's Goggles' spot in RDW's like this one rubenjr

snarlmkiv, I know copying an Exquisite Firecraft sounds great, but if you have 5 mountains on battlefield it means that you are in a very late game and you didn't win yet. That's Bad

It's not common for this deck to reach the 5th land, for many reasons:

Only 18 lands on deck

Discarding lands as costs of effects

Send to grave by opponent on Sin Prodder Trigger

So, the googles will help you on about 20% of the games while it will be a dead card on the other 80%

Maybe, if you want, you could test it, playing with 2 copies on sideboard to see how it goes. It's always possible to discard it as fuel for an axe in those games you won't cast it..

If you try it, please tell me (:

snarlmkiv, have you made any tests with googles? Let me know!

snarlmkiv says... #11

NestorCoelho Yes I have. They are hit or miss. As it turns out, you have a bigger shot of activating dupe spells with Harness the Storm than Pyromancer's Goggles especially if you're running aggro.

I ran with two of them and in the 5 games that I played. They only shined in two games.(using my deck

)

The slots for the goggles are better off with either more aggro creatures or more aggro spells.

Hey man! I'm currently building this deck cuz it seems really fun to play. Good job!

What are your thoughts about Pia and Kiran Nalaar and Ravenous Bloodseeker in this deck? Do you think they could find a spot here?

Do you think that Pia isn't viable because of the amount of lands in this deck, because it is slow, or it may be a thing?

I'm going to go to my first grand prix soon and am thinking about RDW, vampires or werewolves. I really want to play Sin Prodder and Scab-Clan Berserker, so this deck looks pretty nice.

How competitive do you think this deck is? Could it go to a GP day 2 in the current meta? Unfortunately my local meta is completely filled with control, so I can hardly get any reliable test results from playing it myself beforehand :/

Slush, the deck is strong, but it has strong weakness against some matchups

I posted now another updated, reporting the results of last friday FNM.

I'm still changing the list to improve the deck, but I think it could get to the 2nd day of the GP. But probably not winnig.

NestorCoelho Thanks for the update! I think sideboarding lifegain is something that won't happen in a GP usually, since burn or RDW isn't really dominant at the moment. I'll see if I can play it online a bit and report back if I have some results :)

NestorCoelho says... #20

Slush, yeah, maybe you won't see that much life gain. But RG Ramp still completly destroys the deck :c

2 weeks ago I made 2-0 angaist the same bant CoCo that I lost 0-2 last friday, so I think that you get advantage against it without the focused sideboard.

Well, if you try the deck, good luck and please send back reports!

NestorCoelho here's my feedback after a few games.I still feel weird about the deck having a few cards only once, but the three matchups I had on Cockatrice were really not bad at all.

  • BG ramp: 2-1 for me
  • URB dragons: 2-0 for me, opponent had no chance whatsoever. He played two spells with which he showed me a dragon each, so I guess that the deck was supposed to play them
  • BW lifegain allies: 2-3 for opponent. Unfortunately lifegain is quite a good counter against this deck. If I had sideboarded and drawn Magmatic Chasm, I am pretty sure that I would have won the matchup. With Zulaport Cutthroat, Retreat to Emeria and Captain's Claws however, the opponent was able to block with one or two tokens and gain life off of it. That I still won 2 games is probably saying something good about the deck.

My thoughts on single cards:

I mostly used Abbot to get to my third land, not sure if that's intended, but I was lucky quite often. Reckless Bushwhacker is amaaazing. I would not have thought so, but against the decks that I played, I usually had 2-3 other creatures when I played it. I thought Exquisite Firecraft would be too slow, since it's 3 mana and a sorcery, but it's actually the topdeck that I very often wanted in the end, to finish off my opponent.

What I'm not sure about is in which case I would board in Dragon Fodder. I might replace it with Magmatic Chasm to get in those last few points of damage, when the opponent has established a good board position. Magmatic Chasm + Reckless Bushwhacker must be a brutal kill.

Did you ever feel the need to include some mass removal like Seismic Rupture or Kozilek's Return in case the opponent goes very aggressive?

Note: I'm not a very good or experienced player, so take those thoughts with a grain of salt :)

SlushThanks for the reports!

About the Abbot, yes, I usually uses him to get my third mana too. The card advantage he gives is very good on late game too, maybe giving us a burn or even a bushwhacker.

I had the same feelings that you said about Bushwhacker and Firecraft. And got the same conclusions after testing them. Bushwhacker is the card that led me to win most times on this deck. And firecraft is just awesome.

About the Dragon fodder, I didn't test them yet. I'm trying to fix the sideboard to my local meta, so maybe some cards that will be good for me won't be that good for you. But, as I said, I haven't made test with fodder yet, so maybe it won't stay on the sideboard till friday.

Finally, about the mass removals, I don't think they're good, as they wipe y board too.

When playing against other aggressive decks, try to play more as a control, burning creatures and blocking then to trade 1 for 1. Why? This deck has more cards that give card advantage than other aggro so you can rebuild your field after both players being on topdeck. Just try to burn every creature and remove others by blocking, drop abbots and sin prodder after this and then you win.

Dragon Fodder is a sideboard, as I mained in Lightning Berserker and Goblin Glory Chaser for speed. Abbot of Keral Keep is usually a turn 4 or 5 play for me, right about the time I can cast my dragons.

And yes, I've had Abbot throw up a Goblin Bushwhacker as it plays out, so you can just imagine the surprise.

This is the deck that I've been running and my opponents are pissed at the speed.

Right now, I'm siding in creatures like Ire Shaman, Scab-Clan Berserker, Dragon Whisperer, and Goldnight Castigator.

Love the deck! +1. But have you thought about Bloodmad Vampire? He is an amazing two drop. Turn 1, drop Insolent Neonate.Turn 2, Nothing.Turn 2, (Their Turn) Use Insolent Neonate to bring Bloodmad Vampire onto the field.Turn 3, Swing 4.

NestorCoelho says... #25

Ryrydabeast, I don't like Bloodmad that much. And I prefer to keep my Neonates alive, just abusing his ability when he's going to die or to finish someone with Incorrigible Youths. The problem of the Bloodmad is that he's so easly removable, so he's not a good card to cast for 3. I prefer not depending on madness
