An option that i was looking at for a higher price is Garruk Relentless  FlipIt allows for the rapid pull of the Midnight Guard and some early control

How do you classify this as "competitive"?

@ Luke. For $26 in modern could YOU come up with a more competitive budget infinite combo deck? If you can then, by all means make as many snide remarks as you like. I don't think this deck was created with the thought process that it would squish modern elves, merfolk, twin, affinity, etc. I think for a budget deck, however, the combo itself is quite competitive and if this wasn't a budget build and could run manafixing like fetches, shocks, tutors, more colors, and "strictly better" versions of cards; this deck could be quite competitive. Twin costs 4 and exarch costs 3, both are similar to this deck... Twin is an aura like presence of gond, and exarch is a creature like midnight guard. But their combined costs are actually 1 less. Also only one specific mana in each cost, where twin needs RR. This actually could be a BETTER combo. Please don't knock other people's ideas until you fully investigate them. Anyone wanting a budget deck would do fine at most FNM or local events with this build.

I'm just saying that for any tag there should be some criteria that should be met to use them...

Agreed. Sorry, it just sounded condescending the way you wrote it. Words in print are often misconstrued.

I would love to have someone work on making this an even more competitive (though far less budget) deck. I got all the cards for this and added some others from my collection (Path to Exile, Serum Visions), but it would be great to have someone with more knowledge improve on this deck. Maybe with around a $150 dollar budget. I know this is gonna be a modern deck I'm gonna play and work on improving over time.

I like the deck. And the comparison to Twin makes a lot of sense and seems great as a deck :) +1

If tweaking this I recommend putting in more green cards because their are not a lot of green nonland spells

How does Oblivion Ring fit in? I really the idea this deck just do understand that.

Probably going for the O-ring combo.

Also doesn't a infinite loop end a game a draw?

snookskeee says... #13

gotzskillz the oblivion ring isn't part of the combo it's just some removal that does cost a lot of dolla dolla

Tried this deck at FNM at my local gameshop. Did not fare well. I was always one card away from the combo. This deck needs a lot more search options. I did get my combo off twice, once turn 4, and they other late game against another infinite combo. Burn and infect was the worst matchup. Could have easily beat a storm deck if I had drawn just one more card that I needed. If this deck could create a lockdown, have search, and efficiently counter and bounce opponent's things, this deck would be great. I made a copy and any suggestions would be great. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/15-10-15-AGH-competitve-infinite-combo-for-less-than-25/

@Gotzskillz It's not a mandatory infinite combo, you can stop it by targeting something else.

Cool deck, seems like Hindering Light would be a really good counter here, and would help with the lack of draw.

Dispel maybe also better than silence or some of the other instants.

You should probably run Dissolve over Cancel as well.

Not sure on the price of those but I really can't see them impacting the cost much at all, they're not exactly chase cards.

I think Intruder Alarm could help a lot with redundancy as others have said, may need to run a token generator land or something similar to give you an extra gond target if you do that though.

Drift of Phantasms maybe? Will tutor Presence of Gond, Trinket Mage, Oblivion Ring, Heliod's Pilgrim, Midnight Guard, and even Blasting Station and Intruder Alarm, should one choose to include it.

October 28, 2015 3:43 a.m.

Senserazer says... #20

*include them

Sorry. I think it's definitely a card in this deck... Transmute, I think, is generally very underestimated. It's a tutor with a secondary use.

Adameus2012 says... #21

Not only a second use, but can be very effective at keeping your life total up if you can't get your combo out fast and need to dig for pieces.

I can see Horribly Awry instead of the Cancel it counters nealy all spells in the format, shure not "tron", and is easyer to cast

October 29, 2015 4:48 a.m.

Senserazer says... #23

Horribly Awry counters only creature spells..

Wouldnt this deck end in a draw because of infinite loop?
