Changes on the Horizon —June 3, 2021
Maybe I’ve been out of the loop or something, but I had no idea that there was going to be such a bounty of goodies in Modern Horizons 2. As such, we’ve made some of the following changes:
OUT>IN
- Grim Tutor > Academy Manufactor - To start, in the effort of keeping this deck in my playgroup’s powerlevel, I’m reducing the number of some of the tutors in this deck. As such, Academy Manufactor is an insanely good card for any deck that makes any of these tokens. It really gives our deck a huge boost in power, turning Gyome into a pseudo-ramp and card draw engine.
- Vampiric Rites > Ravenous Squirrel - The rites are a really solid card on their own, but the added utility of the squirrel cannot be overstated. Being able to turn our food into draw is fantastic, not to mention the squirrel gives us an added bonus by being a creature.
- Vampiric Tutor > The Underworld Cookbook - Regardless of how the cookbook was made with another Commander in mind, it will work quite well in this deck. Trading out a competitive level tutor for Jank is what this deck is all about now.
- Ezzaroot Channeler > Krark-Clan Ironworks - I’m a sellout; it’s true. KCI will be able to turn excess food into ramp, and it is also a sacrifice outlet that will make Mazirek happier. The channeler is a fine card, thought it would probably be more at hope in a more appropriate deck.
- Noxious Gearhulk > Inspiring Statuary - It’s about time for this card to return. I never got a chance to play with it all that much, and I wrote it off as a result. I’ll be giving it a more serious look (especially since Academy Manufactor seems perfect for it). Noxious Gearhulk is a fantastic piece of removal, but I’m not sure I’m hurting much for removal at the moment.
- Malakir Rebirth Flip > Tireless Provisioner - First, I am going to say I’m not happy about dropping a land here. However, I truly couldn’t fathom a different cut at the moment. Not to mention, I usually don’t cast the spell side, rather just play it as a tap land. Tireless Provisioner is a card I know a lot of people are excited about. It has the potential to ramp extremely well. Optimally, it would work well as a ramp outlet here as well. However, if optimization was our priority, we wouldn’t be playing a good tribal deck. We’re picking food most times.
- Reclamation Sage > Masked Vandal - Seems like a mostly overall upgrade.
- Moldervine Reclamation > Lightning Greaves - Never really had a chance to use the reclamation, so it seems to be a bit too mana intensive. I might be hurting for more draw overall, but we'll see.

Thanks for giving this deck a look over and for all the continued feedback. Can’t wait to play this deck more and share my experiences with it. Cheers.

Given the ETB effects and commanders ability based on creatures that etb you should get conjurer's closet. Also get a song of the dryad in there. Its a staple for green control

Nice deck! Bloodbriar, Curious Pair and Tempting Witch might be useful. Looking at your deck, Trail of Crumbs and Gingerbread Cabin might be good in my Korvold, Fae-Cursed King deck.
