Gah! Remove surgical from the main now. This article does a great job of explaining why. Try a 1-of sideboard if you want to run it at all, but I wouldn't do any more than 1-of sideboard. It's not worth more.

I'd cut the 2 Wurmcoil Engines for 2x Colonnades, up to 26 lands.

Also, I suggest you drop the 3 Serums for the 4th Path, another Rev, and a White Sun's Zenith. I honestly prefer that you find out why they aren't great for yourself, but I don't want you to spend unnecessary money on them. Honestly, I own 2 playsets of Serums and I still don't play them.

Oh, and I also wrote a primer on my Esper deck if you're interested. It'll be a good read.

jeeze. i dunno. i really like them. if you wanted to give me them... jk. i dunno. colonnades isnt my favorite. i dont like that i have to pay for him over and over. i might try sun zenith. it looks cool. mybe go down to 2 serum visions. 1 zenith and cut down to 1 wurm.

Why would you play Colonnade over Creeping Tar Pit? To me the unblockable and cheaper casting cost seem better, but a lot of people seem to favor Colonnade, so there must be a reason. As a very good esper control player, I thought I'd ask you.

Thanks!

@ToolmasterOfBrainerd

It's mainly due to Colonnade's resilience, since it doesn't die to Lightning Bolt as a 4/4. It also does some blocking too.

The mana cost isn't a huge issue in a deck that's looking to play a long game anyways, and it happens to tap for the main colors in almost any control deck -- blue and white.

It's really a combination of things.

November 16, 2015 9:41 p.m.

Aah okay. Being bolt-proof is definitely relevant. And I suppose that in a control deck your opponent shouldn't have blockers so tar pit's unblockability is somewhat irrelevant. Thanks!

@car, ToolmasterOfBrainerd, and TheAnnihilator: Celestial Colonnade is better because it is a better win con. The fact that the tar pit can be bolted makes it a lot worse. Also its activation cost is less relevant because in the state of game that you are activating the colonnade you are tapping out and there is almost nothing that your opponent can do that would warrant countering.

I suggest Creeping Tar Pit over Celestial Colonnade. It ends games faster and can start dealing damage when you have 5 mana and you've kept an opponent's board empty. Colonnade on the other hand requires you to have a total of 7 lands. 5 to activate +Colonnade and 1 other land in case you have to Remand during combat or something.

I played Esper control for 3 months before I quit playing modern alltogether. For the first 6 weeks I played Collonades and usually didn't finish the first game before 30 minutes. Once I switched to Tar Pits I started finishing my game one in just 20 minutes and that gave me more time to sideboard and always finish game 2.

Also if you're going to play the Baron then consider the new manland that has deathtouch and lifegain from Battle for Zendikar.

have you tried 3 celestial collonad? also you need snap caster mages, atleast two or three. look at some of wafo tapa's deck lists, they are amazing. only other thing i would look into is shadow of doubt and 4 path to exile, pathing a creature and then shadow of doubt is amazing. lastly i think u would want 4 esper charm.

i dunno. thanks though. im trying to make this deck more budget. im 13 so this is kindof expensive. snappy is way too expensive.

i can understand, the deck as it is looks good, maybe one or two more removal spells but after that the only other upgrade is snapcaster

November 18, 2015 10:02 a.m.

Okay, this list looks pretty solid. A few small things:

You need at least 2 wrath effects in the mainboard, as Esper makes the best use of them. Also, I expect you'll want a fourth Path to Exile and a second Sphinx's Revelation.

Cuts?

  • 2x Spell Pierce -- this card is great at protecting combos and tempoing out an opponent, but it doesn't really do anything for control and is only usable in the really early game.
  • 2x Dissolve -- it's a little too slow. At 3 mana, it is nearly useless against any aggro deck, and it's harder to represent other interaction when you're tapping 3 mana for a Dissolve.

@car: I agree with TheAnnihilator. You need more Supreme Verdict.

ok. cool. i'll keep that in mind. can somebody tell me how to make my homepage cool?

@car: There are some really good users here if you want help coding. If you want to know how to do the Primer, go to my deck, If you hate people... Play this deck. and scroll to the bottom of the description under "feedback". Then click on the link to the article on coding. It has a users name in red next to it and the link is a blue "here". Its in small font.

To get the background image:This is the coding for the image. The coding is contained in < Coding > arrows. To get the image to show up, just delete the spaces in between the coding and the arrows.

< link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="https://dl.dropbox.com/s/fqxpobte7n2g7wh/TappedOutProfileCustom.css?dl=0" / >

< img src="IMAGE"S URL GOES HERE" style="position:fixed;top:0px;left:0px;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:-1;" / >

Just copy and paste the coding into the deck description and remember to put the URL into your coding where it says. REMEMBER to delete the spaces between the arrows and the coding. THIS IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT: KEEP THE QUOTATIONS BEFORE AND AFTER THE URL. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE TWO PIECES OF CODING SEPARATED BY A LINE LINE BREAK SO THERE IS 1 LINE OF BLANK SPACE BETWEEN CODING.

If you need any help feel free to ask.

@car: It is also highly recommended that you make custom categories for your deck. This way it will organize the cards in a way that you can explain each card choice in the primer. If you need any coding help ask and ill try to help. I am not to good with coding but there are other users such as DERPLINGSUPREME that can help you. To make custom categories go to "edit deck" then to the bottom check box before the deck list and I believe it is under there in a drop down box menu. To categorize the cards simply put a space after the card and then a hashtag and the category. You can put it under multiple categories if you'd like. Here is an article that explains how to get more upvotes/ views. http://tappedout.net/mtg-articles/2015/oct/15/getting-more-views-your-decks/. Good luck

thanks so much bro. it really is great to have support. the coding worked (as you can see) and i will work it into everything else. thanks a ton

Firespout huh? Interesting.

Also, has Myth Realized always been in this list? I don't remember seeing it before. Anyways, I don't think it's a good card, since it dies to almost all instant-speed removal, gets splash enchantment hate, and requires you to T1 it for maximum value.

Ok. thanks. it hasnt always been on this list. i added it because it was really good when i tried out 1. i played it like 5th turn, countered all removal and swung with a 10/10. Should I take it out and add in something else? i think a big issue has been with the big hitters.

This deck takes so much balls to run. (Not trying to be crude but I can't think of any other way to say it)

Your background for some reason is killing my laptop. I never had that happen with other backgrounds so I can only imagine that some peoples phones will turn into bricks.
