Hello! Welcome to my Muldrotha, the Gravetide decklist.
A lot of people see card sacrificing as a drawback, but good old Muldy can change that view. Turns out, its not too bad when your graveyard is just your other hand.
REASONS FOR EVERY CARD BEING IN THE DECK.
Creatures:
Aura Thief
: If you get this card and a sacrifice outlet out, you now own every non aura enchantment in the game, and nobody can really play any. (That name though, am I right. Aura thief takes all enchantments but auras.)
Baleful Strix
: Flying, deathtouch, and card draw. Its cheap enough to keep being replayed for the draw and can block pesky fliers for cheap. Additionally, as an artifact creature, it can be brought back as either.
Birds of Paradise
: Muldrotha needs to come out for this deck to really come online, and BoP gives mana to do so. Also has that any color early game benefit and late can block a flier if need be.
Burnished Hart
: Repeatable ramp, also can be brought back as an artifact or creature.
Caustic Caterpillar
: Cheap and easy artifact/enchantment removal on a creature.
Clever Impersonator
: For mana for the best card on the table, and if the best card changes, you can always kill it off and replay it as that. Additionally, has the small benefit of being a 0/0 if you need that one more card in the graveyard.
Deathrite Shaman
: Ramp and graveyard hate with benefits. Just an all around good card.
Eternal Witness
: Congratulations, your Muldrotha can now grab sorceries and instants, as well as multiple of a different type.
Fleshbag Marauder
: 2B to make each player sac a creature, and puts himself in the graveyard to do it again. Yes please.
Glen Elendra Archmage
: Absolutely Fantastic. Repeatable replayable Negate
Golgari Grave-Troll
: Dredge is great to stock up your "Other Hand" (graveyard), as well as the possibility of being a decent beater and having the tools to off itself if need be.
Golgari Thug
Once again, Dredge. Also allows you to get a creature back up for a second graveyard creature a turn.
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
: Benefits from size of graveyard, Sac outlet that drains your opponent and with things like Lord of Extinction can just win the game. Also can sac land for Titania, Protector of Argoth
Lord of Extinction
: BIG BOI. Later in the game, one shots people. Works with
Altar of Dementia
and
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
to mill people or kill everyone.
Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest
: You are going to be sacrificing things, and forcing opponents to sacrifice things occasionally. This gives you extra benefits and a flying beater once you get the sacrifices rolling.
Mulldrifter
: Amazing card draw for Muldrotha. The evoke functionally gives Muldrotha 2U-Draw 2 once a turn.
Phyrexian Metamorph
Similar to
Clever Impersonator
but only for artifacts and creatures. Can be played for your artifact or creature for turn however.
Plaguecrafter
: Slowly chip away at the board state like
Fleshbag Marauder
does, but has the benefit of hitting people with empty boards too.
Ramunap Excavator
: Can save you when you dont have the mana to get muldrotha out and need land from the graveyard.
Sakura-Tribe Elder
: Cheap, repeatable ramp for basics. Helps with the fact the deck is 3 colors as well.
Sheoldred, Whispering One
: Great target for reanimation effects, both of its abilities are great for what we are trying to achieve
Shriekmaw
: Nearly a repeatable
Doom Blade
, cheap removal. Evoke allows you to play it once from your hand, and then once from your graveyard to use it twice without needing a sac outlet.
Sidisi, Brood Tyrant
: Self Mill, as well as some additional benefit when sacrificing your stuff.
Sidisi, Undead Vizier
: A tutor and a sacrifice outlet, as well as a decent body with deathtouch. BEAUTIFUL.
Siren Stormtamer
: Protection for muldrotha (and from other various nasty effects that could go your way) as well as providing a reason for your opponents to target someone else, nice little politics move.
Spore Frog
: THIS CARD. THIS CARD. THIIIIIIIS CARD. So good. Totally shuts down a persons combat step. Voltron player? NOPE. Somebody drops a big pump spel-NOPE. Also has the ability to use protecting someone as a favor for politics. Protects itself by sacrificing it in response, so to avoid the effect you need instant speed removal on another players turn.
Stitcher's Supplier
: Cheap, early game self mill. Also, the fact that it is a 1/1 means it dies to a stiff breeze, putting it back in the graveyard to mill for you again.
Tasigur, the Golden Fang
: Possibly early game big body for cheap, self mill, and getting cards back to your hand. Useful for politics too, letting favors be cashed in. Wonderful if somebody is far ahead on the table and you have a instant or sorcery to set them back, just pick a player who will let you retrieve it.
The Gitrog Monster
: Card draw from any of the lands that sacrifice themselves, as well as letting you change your lands up with ones from your graveyard. Combos with
Titania, Protector of Argoth
to get you a reliable stream of 5/3s
Titania, Protector of Argoth
: Gives you an extra land, but more importantly, can provide a steady stream of 5/3 tokens with any of the lands that sacrifice themselves.
Wayward Swordtooth
: The most important thing on this card is the
Exploration
Effect so you can have a land from hand and graveyard per turn. Additionally, with all the cheap bodies and consistent land drops, the cities blessing is easy to achieve to use it as a 5/5 body as well.
World Shaper
: Self mill and the ability to BOMB out some lands. Seriosly, the explosiveness of this cards land retrieval, (as well as
Splendid Reclamation
) can win you games nearly on its own.
Lands (Note, land is not finished being optimized yet. Fetches are a must, as the sacrificing is great, and other lands will be put in as well. This deck is just as I have it in paper.)
City of Brass
: Any color untapped, at the lowly cost of one hp a mana. Will do, thanks!
Command Beacon
: Get this out and Muldrotha avoids commander tax for the rest of the game. Absolute monster of a land in this deck. Additionally, sacrifices for
Titania, Protector of Argoth
and
The Gitrog Monster
Command Tower
: Any color, untapped.
Drowned Catacomb
: With basics being fetched out often, is usually just an untapped dual.
Evolving Wilds
: Sacrifices itself to fetch a basic, and can be replayed. Sacrificing itself for
Titania, Protector of Argoth
and
The Gitrog Monster
Forest
: This deck has quite a few basics due to
Burnished Hart
and
Sakura-Tribe Elder
being used for ramp
Hinterland Harbor
: Same as
Drowned Catacomb
but different colors.
Island
: This deck has quite a few basics due to
Burnished Hart
and
Sakura-Tribe Elder
being used for ramp
Llanowar Wastes
: Fast dual land at the cost of life. Due to the control aspects of this deck, we should normally have life to spare.
Mana Confluence
: Same as
City of Brass
Morphic Pool
: Dual land
Myriad Landscape
: Bit of slow ramp that sacrifices itself.
Opulent Palace
: Tri-land
Strip Mine
Repeatable land destruction. Getting this out early with Muldrotha does two things, Loses friendships and wins games.
Swamp
: This deck has quite a few basics due to
Burnished Hart
and
Sakura-Tribe Elder
being used for ramp
Temple of Mystery
: Scrylands can be nice to dig for usefulness late. only have the one to not overindulge on lands that are tapped on entry.
Temple of the False God
: Deck is pretty reliable at getting 4 other lands, allows you to get Muldrotha out a turn early.
Terramorphic Expanse
: Same as
Evolving Wilds
Wasteland
: Slightly less powerful
Strip Mine
as it cant hit basics, but the same idea. No lands = no Opposition.
Woodland Cemetery
: Same idea as
Drowned Catacomb
Yavimaya Coast
: Same idea as
Llanowar Wastes
INSTANTS:
Counterspell
: The card I hold all game to shut down an opponents
Cyclonic Rift
. Its counterspell, it counters a spell, what else is there to say :)
Cyclonic Rift
: IMO the best blue card for commander. Can save you if you are gonna die to early voltron or something pumped, or can win you the game overloaded.
Entomb
: A one mana tutor at instant speed. The graveyard destination is no issue for this deck, so its an auto include every time.
Fact or Fiction
: Draw Five. Put some in your hand, and some in your other hand. Crazy good card for this deck. Typically want to put non permanents in hand as Muldrotha cannot retrieve them.
Grisly Salvage
: Great way to self mill early, and cheap enough to be used with extra mana later.
Krosan Grip
: This is there mainly to deal with things like
Rest in Peace
and other various graveyard hate, and protecting that effect with split second.
Rapid Hybridization
: One mana destruction is nice, and dealing with a 3/3 after isn't a big deal. Can be used to deal with a problem creature, or, use it in response to an exile on one of your own to send it to your "other hand" instead of exile.
SORCERIES:
Fabricate
: So many great artifact targets. Don't forget about the artifact creatures you can grab when using this.
Splendid Reclamation
: This card is insanely powerful in this deck. Used early after a bit of self mill gets you crazy amounts of mana, and late can do the same. Helps you recover from land destruction as well.
ENCHANTMENTS:
Animate Dead
: 2 Mana, summon any creature in your graveyard is always nice. Great with things like
Sheoldred, Whispering One
or
Lord of Extinction
, but has lots of good targets. A benefit to this card is you can use your enchantment pull as a creature pull from Muldrothas effect.
Bear Umbra
: Almost always strapping this onto Muldrotha. Two main benefits to this card. Untapping lands can be huge and Muldrotha has a big enough body to be able to survive an attack usually, as well as totem armor stopping things like
Wrath of God
or
Damnation
destroying it.
Elephant Grass
: Shuts down any black deck from hitting you and makes it annoying for other players and adds a
Ghostly Prison
effect to any others, all for 1 green mana. Cumulative upkeep is not an issue, as you can reset it by letting it die and replaying it, once again, for G. Great card.
Exploration
: One mana and lets you play a land from your hand and graveyard a turn, how fantastic.
Grave Pact
: Disincentive for people to attack you, for people to destroy your stuff, and allows you to kill everyones creatures while sacrificing your own stuff. Standout card, THE GOAT. People may not like you if you get it online, draws a ton of hate.
Lunar Force
: I. LOVE. THIS. CARD. There may be a better card to use, but the psychological aspect of this card is great. Having three opponents having to figure out who is going to waste a card can functionally make people skip playing anything at all at times. So much more than just a pre payed counterspell.
Necromancy
: Same benefits as animate dead, with the extra upsides of no -1/0,as well as being more flexible to be played as an instant with a sac outlet included.
Pernicious Deed
: Due to Muldrothas high CMC for a commander, you can normally replay this to kill everyones commanders 5 CMC or less and keep him alive to do it next turn. Losing some of your stuff for it occasionally is well worth the devastation this card can create.
Seal of Doom
: Cheap removal that can be replayed, not too much to explain here.
Seal of Primordium
Never worry about not having enough enchantment or artifact removal again. Even though this card is dirt cheap, it is one of the MVP's of the deck.
Rhystic Study
: Hey, Question, you gonna pay for that?
Sinister Concoction
: Oh boy, the casting effect on this. The more things you can use to your advantage, the better. In the effect, the only true payments are the mana cost and the life. Everything else can be used or seen as an upside.
ARTIFACTS:
Altar of Dementia
: Provides a sac outlet that can self mill yourself for more tools to your "Second Hand" as well as using it as a bomb to mill out opponents. Great with
Lord of Extinction
Ashnod's Altar
: Sacrifice outlet that gives mana. Is nice with tokens from
Sidisi, Brood Tyrant
as well.
Birthing Pod
: Tutoring creatures straight to the battlefield from its effect, as well as being a sac outlet. Strong card if used smartly.
Chromatic Lantern
: Can save you if you get color screwed, as well as just generally being great for a 3 color deck to have.
Lightning Greaves
: Shroud for muldrotha, as well as being able to swing with creatures as soon as you call them out and move the protection back after.
Nevinyrral's Disk
: Great way to recover when behind, and a good political tool. Works well with
Bear Umbra
To keep something alive for you as well. Repeatable board wipe.
Oblivion Stone
: With a bit of setup, can cause you to win the game almost alone. Repeatable board wipe.
Ratchet Bomb
: Does somebody have a problem commander with a set mana cost? Everybody have out a sol ring and you want that to change? Never fear, ratchet bomb is here. Takes some time to get it where you want it but can be a good tool.
Sol Ring
: Because commander is 98 Cards, one commander, and one Sol Ring.
NOTABLE EXCLUSIONS:
Better land (workin on it)
Demonic/Vamp tutor: Will probably add these at some point, but the tools are flexible enough that they feel like over kill. Definitely adds power if you aren't keeping up.
Solemn Simulacrum: Will probably swap this in for burnished hart at some point. Fills the same role, but needs a sac outlet.
Dictate of Erebos: Decided not to throw in both, and the fact that you have so many things to play a turn with Muldrotha out means the 1 mana less makes a difference.
