I will definitely try out the Soldier of the Pantheon ; I kind of looked him over. Also, that reasoning behind Mizzium Mortars makes a lot of sense.I probably will replace the Pyromaster, but I'm not sure with what yet. I may ditch the Orzhov Charm , I'm not sure. Maybe with Devour Flesh , though. It's not so color intensive or restrictive.

Let me know how Soldier of the Pantheon works for you. it's been working fantastically for me

dentalflosstycoon Here's my list if you want to take a look at it. Maybe grab some insight. Did somebody say control?

Arcaneassassin Yes the High Priest of Penance is targeting Blood Baron of Vizkopa because it still says TARGET permanent meaning you have to TARGET Blood Baron of Vizkopa

@ iAtlasXIX The soldier is definitely something that I'll work with. The Magma Jet is interesting. I don't necessarily know if I want it in over Lightning Strike though.
@ lookoutimscary Thank you for commenting on my deck.
October 1, 2013 10:02 p.m.
@dentalflosstycoon My reasoning for Magma Jet is basically just for the scry 2. The deck list doesn't have any kind tempo advantage such as card advantage or mana dorks ,etc. Being able to hit an opponent for 2 or a pesky creature for 2 or even blocking a big creature and then finishing it off with a Magma Jet and then scrying for 2 is some really good card advantage. It helps get your deck in motion.
Pros: it helps you get to the right mana. Helps get to your creatures faster since there are less than 15 creatures in the deck. Being able to stop from mana flooding.
Cons: its only two damage
I did consider Read the Bones at one point but the life loss it gave helped me sway towards the jet.

I'm considering Read the Bones as well. I'll have to playtest with both of these cards and see what helps the most.

Chained to the Rocks can kill Baron Blood Vitzkopa, so no need for the Mortars as you already have an AE wipe effect from Anger of the Gods. Take out Angel of Thune, its applications in your deck are minimal at best and put in another [/Blood Baron of Vitzkopa.] and keep 2 more Anger of the Gods in your side Board with some Merciless Evictions for people playing big end game creatures.

Chained to the Rocks can't exile blood baron... he can't be targeted or enchanted by anything white.
October 2, 2013 9:13 p.m.
dentalflosstycoon says... #11
Yeah, he has pro white. And honestly, I have an archangel and only one Blood Baron, so that is pretty much the reason why one of each. She is still amazing, but I'm not spending eighteen bucks for another vampire when I can just put the angel in instead. And Mortars is a one sides board sweep for more damage; it makes a difference.

I really think Whip of Erebos would do wonders in this build, especially in combination with Archangel of Thune

Whip of Erebos is not a bad card, but there is simply nothing in here that I would remove for it.

I don't really think you should have so many different finishers: Aurelia, the Warleader , Obzedat, Ghost Council , Stormbreath Dragon , Desecration Demon , Archangel of Thune , and Blood Baron of Vizkopa , and only 1 or 2 of most of those. While Control needs to be able to deal with anything, one of its best things is consistency, and with this list, you'll never know what finisher you're going to draw. I'd try to consolidate those.
October 7, 2013 10:02 p.m.
Really awesome deck!! +1 for sure!! Just not too sure of the Assemble the Legion i'd rather play another big finisher like Obzedat, Ghost Council or Stormbreath Dragon . Look up my decks if you want , would like to get you're feedbacks on my two tournament decks My take on Red Deck FTW and Dead Humans Festival!!.

Disregard the naysayers. I've assembled this deck, and tested it (without the Chandra in, but with the second Blood Baron put in) and through 50+, best of 3 matches, it performed very well. I know it doesn't seem like it would be consistent, but it really is. Beyond that, only twice did this deck lose 2 rounds consecutively, and I attribute that to not doing a deep shuffle. So with only 3 deep shuffles, best of three, 50+ matches, I'd say this deck performs very well with a win percentage of 92.4%. +1 sir

@twospires I understand what you're saying, but in addition to consistency, variation can be an equally useful tool. Let me use a more obvious example: Doom Blade is a great removal spell and when it works, it really works, taking out a creature with no drawbacks for only two mana. However, if you put only Doom Blade in your deck and you face off against, say, my deck, you're never going to be able to deal with Desecration Demon , Obzedat, or Blood Baron. So variance is just as key as consistency in some cases. Archangel can be devastating if I have other creatures on the field and sometimes I need the life. Obzedat can avoid board wipes and sorcery speed removal, plus the leeching effect. Stormbreath has pro white, haste, and flying. Aurelia can come out of nowhere and win a game, but costs six and is very color intensive. Each creature has a plus and minus and variance makes it difficult for the opponent to sideboard correctly against my deck. They side in for my Stormbreath and in game two my Blood Baron hits the field. Then game three, Aurelia pulls in the win from nowhere.

@Mangley Thanks for the +1. As I just explained above, one of the key factors to this deck's success is variation, and the opponent may not be prepared for any enchantment win con. Or maybe they are after the first game, and the second game, I play only creatures.

@TheGodofNight Thanks for the support. Sometimes I wonder why so many people question the tool that is variation. They think that the deck received a score of 98 by accident. I appreciate your +1.
October 8, 2013 2:09 a.m.
@ dentalflosstycoon I read all the comments but maybe missed that part, but you're right, it offers another win con that surprises the ennemy, as well as defending you in case.

Variation is definitely key to any good deck. If you have one win con they can adapt and overcome easily. But when you have 3 different hard hitters that basically need to be taken care of in different ways each it is very hard, and to have an enchantment like assemble the legion out its nearly impossible. I like it a lot so a definite +1 from me. On the variation subject I made a reanimator deck that has two strategies basically it can either combo into reanimating win cons or go to a midrange beat down approach. I think you could appreciate the adaptability aspect of it

October 8, 2013 9:20 p.m.
dentalflosstycoon says... #25
Very well. It really has an answer for everything. It usually annihilates other midrange decks. Control can be somewhat difficult, but Rakdos's Return in the mainboard and the many others in the sideboard usually take care of it. If Sire Of Insanity gets out, they are just screwed. They will run out of counters eventually, and as a six drop, it's not all that difficult to get him on the field. Pithing Needle stops planeswalkers and AEtherling .
Then there is aggro which dies to Anger of the Gods . Let them dump all of their creatures on the field and turn three or four destroy everything they have.

I replaced the High Priest of Penance with Soldier of the Pantheon a 2/1 for one white and pro multicolored? and i've gained so much life off this card it's actually ridiculous. It really helps balance out the shocks and thoughtseizes you have in here
I would also consider mainboarding Mizzium Mortars and siding the Lightning Strike .Selesnya is getting a lot of play and i'd rather have a mortars in my hand than the lightning strike to take care of a potential turn 2 Loxodon Smiter Also drawing into a mortars turn 6 with the right mana out can turn the game in your favor or just win it for you.
-2 Orzhov Charm for Celestial Flare ? Flare is another blood baron killer and a good trick. You really don't want to be losing any more life than you already are, especially with the shocks and thoughtseize
Chandra, Pyromaster doesn't seem to fit well in this. Maybe replace her with a third Anger of the Gods ?
