TorrentFreak, It's being used in another deck (standard), I don't have an extra one to include or I would have over tirel.

Oh ok, yeah I only mentioned it because I am running her in my standard U/W control. Seems like a good inclusion. I like the deck though, I've been wanting to build a Grand Arbiter Augustin IV EDH.

Me too, I've been planning it for a while. I really like how this one plays (said by the control player) more than anything else I've built.

you know who's a fun lockdown creature? Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer
October 2, 2013 12:48 p.m.
canterlotguardian Meddling Mage and Council of the Absolute are on my 'possibly' list. The reason Nevermore fits better is because it's an enchantment they would want to deal with before another one.
Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer allows my opponents to draw, this is not a hug deck, and beleren only gets +2 every 2 turns.

Realy not sure about the usefullness of Gilded Lotus . Your deck seems relatively cheap on the mana base. But i realy don't know. Maybe tour competitive meta need you to ramp real fast in th first few turns. I would probably cut Thran Dynamo too. Maybe replace one of them with an Azorius Signet , wich can be played much faster.
October 2, 2013 2:03 p.m.
Bobgalarneau I've never been a fan of signets, I tried them but they usually got cut quickly. The other ramps are good for various things, the lotus lets me tap out other wise and still play a counter, the dynamo is good for paying for Mana Vault , they also allow me to play the X spells with ease (Overrule and a couple others, is still in contention for this deck), plus as soon as I can find one, March of the Machines will be added.

As long as they're usefull. I just did not saw any potential for them with their general use for ramp.

Have you considered Riptide Shapeshifter as a way to fetch creatures?
October 2, 2013 7:12 p.m.
No, Goostee, It looks like a fun card, I might in the future, but I was thinking of Archmage Ascension as a way to do similar. But at the moment I like the build because it forces me to grind out games more often than not. Something i need to build on in terms of patience, in standard I'm too hasty sometimes.

I've got to say, in a deck whose Commander receives nearly the amount of hate as Kaalia of the Vast , I'm surprised you don't have Lightning Greaves or Mask of Avacyn to equip on him even with your counter spells. He's just one of those cards that says, "Stop the game. THAT's on the field. Take care of that."
October 13, 2013 7:51 p.m.
you wouldn't think it but Suppression Field stops most combos and makes planewalkers cry
October 18, 2013 7:22 p.m.
Lighthouse Chronologist and Echo Mage and Glen Elendra Archmage definitely belong in this deck.

also, Staff of Nin
and Treasure Mage
to search for it or Mindslaver
and Tolarian Academy
to reuse Mindslaver
if you don't have Tamiyo's emblem yet. and Tolaria West
to tutor for whatever land you need. While I personally don't run Isochron Scepter
because I think it just breaks too many things, you may want to consider it (whether you use it as part of a lockdown combo or not)
Also, Winter Orb
is great with Propaganda
and Ghostly Prison
.If you're already running Torpor Orb
, consider Phyrexian Dreadnought
. its a 1 drop 12/12.Stasis
is always interesting as long as you have a decent size artifact mana-base. It does draw some hate though. be sure to have Propaganda
or Ghostly Prison
on the field first. Also, maybe Devastation Tide
.
Anywaya, I like the deck. Definite +1. Nice work

cwizard Winter Orb is banned/hated at my lgs for reasons. I did avoid the stax and pillow fort stuff for this deck on purpose. Though I'm debating the Island Sanctuary /Mystic Decree combo for protection aspects. I like it a bit more than Propaganda /Ghostly Prison combo.
Treasure Mage and Staff of Nin is a good idea. though. Thanks.

Nice list. How do you feel about Recurring Insight? By deadlocking their casting, they'll probably have a lot of cards in hand.
Planar Cleansing seems good, too.
Commandeer can be a real crusher after they've struggled to pay for a spell.
Winter Orb seems pretty good as well.
Didn't see a Wasteland on this list, did it get cut?
+1
December 22, 2013 8:08 a.m.
35 land, yes, Wasteland
got cut (really never made it), Strip Mine
is enough. Planar Cleansing
is dangerous to the overall design of the deck. Winter Orb
is banned at my LGS, so I try to avoid the traditional stax (why no Stasis
or Smokestack
).

You should play Godhead of Awe to go with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite , making your opponents creatures become-1/-1 while your creatures become 3/3.
+1 for a great list. You should check out my Azusa, Lost but Seeking more Wins, for a take on mono-green control.
