I would use Dissipate over Syncopate . Maybe Judge's Familiar as a turn 1? Unsummon for sideboard? That's all I got in the 3 min I was thinking, Hansie.

Counters:Bone to Ash , Cancel , Counterflux , Dispel , Rewind

DrawFleeting Distraction , Inaction Injunction , Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind , Dracogenius, Thought Scour

And just because: Jace, Memory Adept , Tamiyo, the Moon Sage and Vanishment

You are going to need some sort of card advantage, so you will probably want some draw cards.

Depending on how you want to play this deck:Hypersonic Dragon , Slumbering Dragon , Balefire Dragon

You could just delay your opponent until later into the game with your counters and other creatures, then go all dergen on them, which might be fun.

Maybe Illusionist's Bracers , depending on your creatures.

I like the idea of adding dergans. If only Utvara didnt cost ALL of the mana

Honestly, Vexing Devil over Blistercoil Weird and some card draw wouldn't hurt.

@lyobra Thanks for the suggestion! Although I like Vexing Devil (I run four in my rakdos deck), I dont think I would want to replace Bilstercoil with him. Blistercoil Weird is in the deck because he really shines with Dual Casting . Allowing me to dupe spells twice after casting them, possibly 4 times with Melek, Izzet Paragon on the field. And if I'm lucky enough to equip him with Illusionist's Bracers I can copy 1 spell 6 times for an extra 2 mana. Imagine that played on a morbid Brimstone Volley or even a Devil's Play late game.

deck is not bad... however... something to remember you cannot trip the Blistercoil Weird trigger with a copied spell. so casting the spell from topdeck with a BCW enchanted with Dual Casting you will technically only get to copy that spell the first time for Melek and then the once for BCW.

the big thing that i see here though is that you are focusing heavily on casting and copying instants and sorceries, yet you dont have enough of those in the deck. take out Delver of Secrets  Flip . take out one of the Dual Casting and take out the Goblin Electromancer

i would also trim down to only one Ral Zarek and remove the artifacts(keeping in mind that copies CANNOT be copied). the bracers really are not going to help you that much. they simply cost you 5 mana for something you really do not need.

would also recommend adding in some kind of counters to protect those weirds. Cancel , Dissipate , and Rewind are all very good choices. reason that i say this is because yo will run into people like me who will intentionally wait til you get all those enchantments on your critter then either Unsummon or Cyclonic Rift him back to your hand thereby destroying those enchantments.

all in all nice deck though. i like it a lot. :D if you get a chance check out my FNM deck Ral and His Izzet Wizards. it is an izzet based control and burn deck. :D

Although I will admit I have been thinking about removing the Bracers but I wanted to clarify, I'm not planning to copy the spells. The bracers ability copies a triggered ability, which is given to a creature with Dual Casting , meaning you copy dual casting triggered ability allowing for mass spell casting. But as you stated they are looking a bit slow for the deck.

Also to clarify the way Blistercoil works with Dual Casting is:

You first cast Searing Spear .

Then Blistercoil Weird 's ability goes on the stack.

While that is still on the stack, you use Dual Casting , copying Searing Spear .

Then, the original ability resolves, untapping Blistercoil Weird , and receiving a +1/+1 buff until end of turn.

If you want to, you can pay R and tap it again to create a 3rd copy of Searing Spear .

Thats what i'm going for. You never try to copy a copy, it's all off the original spell.

Anyways your other suggestion definitly make sense. And thank you for introducing me to Rewind . That card is definitely worth working into the deck somehow!

hmmm.... never really messed around too much with the Dual Casting -Blistercoil Weird combo. i was under the impression that you were just trying to copy all the copies with melek and BCW... lol my fault for coming to a false assumption... :D

also. Rewind is an AWESOME card... im going to hate it if it isnt reprinted in M14.... :(

Needs more extra turns: Temporal Mastery .

-4x Thought Scour and +4x Negate

Deck goes down pretty easy to removal and board wipes, so I added in negate to try and deal with this. Thought scour was a good removal choice since I no longer need card draw and milling for 2 doesn't necessarily help me as much as some more counters would.

Nivix Cyclops could become a win-con.

I like the look of this, but you still have Negate on the sideboard as well as the mainboard.

I was looking for a deck to use Ral in, and I'm going to give yours a try. I have most of the cards, but I made a few adjustments. I'm going to post my modified version shortly, if you want to look at it.

Also, you're currently at 62 cards and 22 land. I have bad luck with mana, so I'm still getting used to not having 24/36, but the extra 2 cards just struck me as odd.

Whoops thanks for the input, I removed negate from the sideboard and moved over dissipate. Added a mountain and that brought it to 23 lands with 60 cards. Much better now! Looking forward to check out your version!

Blistercoil Weird says whenever you cast a spell, untap it. And Dual Casting says R, tap: Copy target instant or sorcery etc.

And as we all know, copies are not cast, but they just happen on the stack, so this doesn't make your Blistercoil Weird untap when you copy Temporal Mastery .So I think you can only copy TM only ONCE with your Dual Casting +Blistercoil Weird combo.Or that is how I see the rules text.

It gets a little confusing. Here is how it works:

You first cast Searing Spear .

Then Blistercoil Weird 's ability goes on the stack.

While that is still on the stack, you use Dual Casting , copying Searing Spear .

Then, the original ability resolves, untapping Blistercoil Weird , and receiving a +1/+1 buff until end of turn.

If you want to, you can pay R and tap it again to create a 3rd copy of Searing Spear .

Arnonator says... #21

So then you have 2 copies and one original spell.

That's quite clever.

Izzetsane says... #22

I'm still hating the rule that if someone counters the original spell all three get toasted. Look for a way to get Wolfhunter's Quiver in there. It is expensive to equip but it's dirt cheap to drop and can make a real mess when you equip it to a Blistercoil.
