Ball Lightning is the card you mean. I considered running it but its unnecessary as the deck burns them fast enough as it is

Well, why not play 1cmc drop goblins and play Goblin Grenade ?

16 lands isnt enough. i know you curve out at 3 but your going to be mulliganing for lands way too often
October 12, 2011 10:40 p.m.
I'd definitely add Ball Lighting and Goblin grenades

Have you considered using Browbeat in place of Wheel of Fate? It gives your opponent a choice of what happens, but it's at least quicker then Wheel of Fate while not benefiting anyone apart from you.

@Tempest_Fennac i considered Browbeat but went with Wheel of Fate instead and it usually proves a game ender, because I'll draw into five 1cmc spells that i just flood out to finish.
@kevinmtg24 you'd be surprised how rarely i mulligan with this deck.

I have two comments. Yes, the deck is really fast, and I also tend to think that you need, say, two more lands.
But mostly, I think you have too much nonbasic land hate in this deck. Yes, non-basic lands are significantly more common now than they were back in the day. That said, I think that 6 cards that deal with something a player MIGHT play is a significant amount of overkill.
I really think you should pull one Price of Progress for a total of 3, and cut Blood Moon completely, because it doesn't help you close the deal with damage.
If you have difficulty because you run out of steam, then I heavily recommend the card Farsight Mask so that, every single time you get hurt, you can draw another card injure the opponent right back!

I had just recently added the Blood Moon s to the deck because of the absurd amount of nonbasics that are played in the meta of the store where i play at. They've proven quite useful. If conditions were different i would agree with you 100% on your suggestions. I may try out Farsight Mask to see how that goes though.

I'd cut Blood Moon (does no damage) and Stuffy Doll (too expensive). In their place I'd put 4 Blazing Salvo s ; used correctly, it is better than Lightning Bolt and that takes some doing. You mentioned Wheel of Fate but it's not on your deck list. I'd put that back, if I were you.

I see you have changed the deck a little bit. Really, I would say either have 16 lands, or have Stuffy Doll in there, because I see very little chance you will be able to make full use of both.
I was thinking more about your deck, by the way. Honestly, if the store you play at REALLY likes their Non-basic lands, then you should bring Primal Order to the party for some fun at their expense.

@alxzy2 I had considered it but i hardly get enough lands out to make it worthwhile and Price of Progress would hurt me when i cast it. So it just isn't worth it.
October 25, 2012 7:32 p.m.
How exactly would Price of Progress hurt you? It deals 2 damage to each player for each non-basic land that player controls. You would only have basic Mountains, so it would deal you none. If your opponent had, say, 2 Tundra s and an Underground Sea , he/she would take 6 damage for 2 mana.
And that seems right up your alley.

@zandl If i was running valakut it would hurt me. But having the valakuts isn't that great since i rarely have enough lands out to get them going
October 25, 2012 7:36 p.m.
Oh, I see now that you were talking about Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle in the first part of your post.
But what about Price of Progress ?
October 25, 2012 7:38 p.m.
Pfft. Nevermind. I should read things from now on.
I need more sleep.

Mainboarding Blood Moon negates Price of Progress altogether. I would suggest moving Blood Moon to the sideboard and either increasing your land count by a few or putting Fireblast in Blood Moon 's stead. Fireblast is a game winner for RDW.
Here's my Legacy RDW:

Actually Blood Moon does not remove the Nonbasic subtype therefore they still take damage from Price of Progress . Check the ruling on gatherer.

Go figure. The text of the card says otherwise lol. Ok then, nm.
I would still consider adding in a few more Fireblast .
Do you run ok with only 16 lands?
November 14, 2012 12:10 a.m.
MisterRoach says... #24
Yeah Even though it is 16 lands i rarely have to mulligan and since the curve tops out at 3 its never a problem having a 1-2 land hand opening up . I had more fireblasts on the mainboard at one point but always seemed to draw into all of them in games for some reason. so they ride the sideboard but do come in against some decks if i need to get that extra punch

I VERY strongly suggest looking at this deck ( deck:perfecting-burn-mono-red ). this guy got a lot of feedback and ended up with a really powerful deck. See what he has and read the cards suggested to him too.

I forget the name of it, but there is a 3 cmc drop creature for a 6/1 Trample/Haste that may come in handy? Only thing is that is like Spark Elemental where it dies at the end step. +1 from me
