Introduction

This is my second EDH deck, and for this I decided to go back to my mono-black roots. I came across XHD while looking at black commanders and his art along with low play rate is what initially got me interested but it was the primer by osieorb18 that had me hooked. What’s our strategy?

Control the board and keep other players in check while we build our combo pieces.

How do we win?

Build up infinite recursion and gravestorm with one of our many combos before finishing with Bitter Ordeal .

What is Gravestorm?

Gravestorm (When you cast this spell, copy it for each permanent put into a graveyard this turn. You may choose new targets for the copies.)

Below I’ve outlined the key combos for infinite recursion and gravestorm. I’ve categorised them by recurring engine but they all have similar combo pieces which include a sac-outlet (i.e. Ashnods Altar), mana generation (i.e. Priest of Gix) and the engine itself.

Testing

• Word of Command for Bloodchief Ascension , was painting a big target on my head and didn’t feel it added anything to my gameplan
• Viscera Seer for Dictate of Erebos , mana cost was high and already have a lot of creature removal
• Guardian Beast for Sadistic Hypnotist
, this change I’m unsure of but it was a bit to oppressive and I needed some protection
• Nevinyrral's Disk for Imp's Mischief , wasn’t as useful as I thought, very situational
• Yahenni's Expertise for Decree of Pain , too expensive and card draw isn’t an issue
