This is a deck full of control with number of creatures also. Can keep up with midrange but definitely needs more speed against aggro tempo to guard agains first and second turn. Any comments to enchanching this deck on a budget?
Control
The control mechanism is a typical blue made of permission and removal spells or abilities (Counterspell, Into the Roil,
Psychic Barrier
, AEther Adept, Kheru Spellsnatcher). Also the creatures like Dungeon Geists and
Frost Titan
are there to bind opponent's creatures.
Card Draw
There's also a lot of card draw to support the control also: Rhystic Study, Ponder, Halimar Depths, Fact or Fiction,
Ordeal of Thassa
. With these you can always be sure to have the optimal card draw and time the draw of lands right (Ponder and Halimar Depths especially). That's why there's not so much lands as in a control usually.
And Fact or Fiction is there so you can use unused lands at your opponent's end step if you didn't need to cast any permission spells.
Creatures
All creatures exept
Mindshrieker
have a role of controlling opponent's battlefield and supporting the deck.
Mindshrieker
is only there to do some attacking with spare mana if there's any. I also thought of changing these to Delver of Secrets
since you pretty reliably transform it with Ponder and Halimar Depths.
The main game ending cards are actually
Frost Titan
and Kheru Spellsnatcher.
Frost Titan
is a fattie by itself but Kheru Spellsnatcher is used to capture the finishers your opponent casts and use them against themself.
Bonus
The Isochron Scepter is a bit of tricky one, but also a lots of fun... for you. Usually you load it up with Counterspell to keep your opponent from casting anything, or with Into the Roil to keep your opponent's creatures at bay and to gain continuous card advantage through the kicker cost.
If you're playing agains another control or any deck with lot's of instant or sorceries (like a black deck with lot's of removal or discard) you can make the Isochron Scepter even more interesting with Twincast. There's not much room to play it when playing against creature heavy decks, but it makes games really interesting when there's a fellow control on the otherside of the table.
