Well, how about Archmage Ascension ? That works with your Commander in delightful ways. Who needs black for maximum tutorage?
August 30, 2012 1:03 p.m.
I had Archmage Ascension in for a bit, and while it could potentially get there, it takes so long, and is such an immediate target, that it would often die. And I'd much rather save counterspells for their threats than them dealing with mine.
August 30, 2012 1:18 p.m.
With that many counters, why not a Guile to turn them into win?
September 3, 2012 10:47 p.m.
Guile is the very definition of a "win-more" card. By the time I can comfortably cast him, and still have mana open to counter things over the next turn, I should already be in control of the game.
Don't worry, I had the same (bad) idea at first.

Well with all of the instants and sorceries you have at your disposal (almost half the deck) Talrand, Sky Summoner could do an INSANE amount of work passively.
Thoughts?
September 9, 2012 2:19 p.m.
Talrand was in the deck for a few months. What usually happened was, just like with Guile, I couldn't comfortably drop him and still counter things into well late into the game, by which point I had essentially already won.

What IS your wincon? Just lasting them out and hoping that they aren't playing reanimator? Also, I take it that you don't play this multiplayer?
September 9, 2012 2:27 p.m.
Wincon is eventually taking infinite turns, or getting to the point where I drop Stormtide. And incorrect, I play this in multiplayer/1v1 all the time. Of course it does better in the latter, but it still performs admirably in multiplayer. I enjoy the former more because I have to be more selective about my counterspells, leading to a more strategic game.
As for hoping they're not playing reanimator, it's actually a fairly easy strategy to deal with if you know what you're doing. ;D

I'm just worried what you would do v.s a deck that plays things that can't be countered. If you were in my playgroup I would run things like Root Sliver , card:Gaea's Herald, Terra Stomper , or card:Gaea's Revenge. I mean yes you have a few answers but it just seems like a weak strategy when you aren't really running an actual "wincon". For example if someone manages to land a Aurification or something similar how do you kill them? Or if they nail your Stormtide Leviathan with a Banefire ?
I think the easiest way to do this would be to include Psychosis Crawler . With all of the draw you are playing and with the infinite turns/draw you would have a great finisher with no muss or fuss. Lets say you have out Consecrated Sphinx and Psychosis Crawler , Time Reversal will win you the game in a 4 player game, and take a HUGE chunk out if it's 1v1. (7+14+14+14=49 or 7+14=21 cards drawn and damage dealt).
It's a great idea and looks really fun but without a definitive finisher I see a weakness.
September 9, 2012 3:12 p.m.
If someone runs those things (And most of them are extremely weak in EDH, I might add) I tutor for Venser to bounce them, then counter when it comes back. Vexing Shusher is the one that gives me the most trouble, but I've played around it countless times.
And Stormtide is just an example, but should I lack the Venser, Mindbreak Trap, Timestop, or whatev, I win a different way. I've won games off of swinging with Void Stalker and Kami for a bunch of turns.
Psychosis Crawler is purely offensive and has no place in this deck. Stormtide at least defends me. But I think you overestimate what one needs to win in a game. Swinging with a 4/6 Consecrated Sphinx is often enough for me.
And you may see a weakness, but as someone who's played with and constantly tweaked the deck for the past year, I can tell you this is not a problem.

Agree to disagree? (My omnath deck runs card:Gaea's Herald and my sliver deck runs Root Sliver and both have won me games in the past vs Oona, Queen of the Fae control decks.)
September 9, 2012 3:47 p.m.
No just disagree. I feel you've made poor choices.
September 9, 2012 3:58 p.m.
Welcome to TappedOut, people on here try to be nice as possible. I'm not going to lie, that was a dick move. Please try being amiable and agree to disagree.

Honesty > Being nice
If someone thinks I've made the wrong decision with my deck building I want them to be as blunt as possible, and if I agree I'll make a change. Otherwise I'll explain why I have it the way it is and tell them why I'm wrong. I extend the same courtesy to others.
Unless everyone just wants to jerk each other off and never improve. That's cool too, I guess.
September 9, 2012 4:51 p.m.
...and yet you overextend what I said...
Being friendly and nice and using better wording is a lot different than "jerking each other off". I'm just saying.
You can the same sentence many ways, we simply ask you are nicer. There's a difference between blunt and being a jerk.
September 9, 2012 4:54 p.m.
If you cannot agree on something, then let it go. There's no point in trying to persuade people if they are not persuadable. Everyone's metagame is different, and in his opinion you were wrong. In your opinion, you thought he was wrong.
There's no need to make it more than what it is. You lowered your reputation on this site for 1-3 cards in a 100 card singleton deck. Just throwing the thought out there.

He didn't "jerk" you off, he politely offered constructive criticism. It got the point across with the best possible tone... Look at all the other comments on this site.
It's not a CoD forum, YouTube, Reddit, or anything else like that. This is a small group of Magic player who try to be nice to each other. Keep that in mind. You're not so anonymous here as other sites.

Oh no. People on the internet dislike me. Whatever. Will. I. Do. Guess I'll never be president of nerd-haven now. :/
The point is that there are more important things than being nice in such a trivial environment. I'll never meet that guy in person, I'll most likely never interact with him beyond today. Why should I worry about cultivating a relationship with him? And further more, why do you care about two people you'll never see again who aren't addressing you.
I mean christ, it's the internet people, let it go lol
September 9, 2012 5:01 p.m.
"I'll most likely never interact with him beyond today."
Incorrect. You apparently don't count the amount of full time users on here. It's in the 15-25 range. There's actually a high chance you will...
September 9, 2012 5:04 p.m.
And on that note, I am done with this. I don't want to get in a argument like the last user that was commenting on this page.
Have a nice day sir.

"Full-time user" on an MTG website. Truly there is a fate worse than death.
But that's very nice of you. "Here's my argument oh you have no chance for a rebuttal NYAHNYAHNYAH" Reddit teach you those debate skills?
