Oh I know what you mean, man, following zandl is one of the worst things a man can do.

If you want to counter everything twice, why aren't you running Kira, Great Glass-Spinner ? That counters everything once, just leaves one for you to tackle ;)

Also Isochron Scepter might be nice, and Ertai, Wizard Adept ?

What about Erayo, Soratami Ascendant . It shouldnt take anything to get her to flip and then youre countering EVERYTHING. Just a thought.

You really need Guile

No, I really don't.

Kira, Great Glass-Spinner is a bad idea. He uses Riptide Laboratory and Archaeomancer to go infinite, and Kira would counter the Lab's ability.

Guile is way too much of a mana sink.

Isochron Scepter might not be a bad idea.

I had Guile in a mono-blue Commander deck... then I found that it never was as awesome as I imagined it could be, and I took it out. Of course, I did not have the number of counters that funkalunk does. I'd put him in here, he can change the game from "things are under control right now" to "my counterspells advance my board position".

Not to mention he's a quasi-unblockable 6/6 beater.

Also, don't you play for fun? Having Guile out would make your games much more interesting and varied, as you counter-steal different stuff each time... Iona? Thanks, think I will! Oblivion Ring my Guile? No, exile your essential combo-piece! Blasphemous Act? Err... let's just counter that one. :|

But, I make many decisions about my deck based on how fun it will be over what kills most lethally. I'd rather run Guile than Tinker + Blightsteel Colossus for instance. funkalunk, you strike me as a Spike-ish player, so you might not share such a view.

On a separate note, what about Bribery ? I would rate it as one of the best EDH cards in all of Magic, since there are very few EDH decks without at least one game-changing bomb of a creature in them. :)

Yeah I've been on and off about Bribery for the longest time. Grabbing a Primeval Titan, an Iona, whatever is a great idea. But 5cmc sorcery that doesn't draw me cards or give me another turn. Yikes. D: It scares me!

But the thing with Guile is that I did run him for a while. Rarely did I have something resembling an awesome story, let alone a good play. I realize how he looks like he should gel perfectly on paper, but it just didn't get there. :(

Sounds like you had the same experience with Guile as I did. Damn shame, really! Cool deck though, +1

It is a shame! Spelljack on a guy sounds really cool, but it doesn't deliver. :( Thanks for the upvote, doe.

you guys mind taking a look at my EDH baby?

The people on this page have a lot of really cool stuff to say!

O Captain My Captain...

now, as for this deck, is there a reason you dont have Force of Will in here?

September 22, 2012 2:01 p.m.

funkalunk says... #15

The reason being I've yet to buy one. :3 Kind of a money sink.

Though with a Mana Drain , my excuse might not be as relevant >.>

But there's still a few cards going into the ideal list. Desertion , Force of Will and Land Equilibrium will be going in eventually.

September 22, 2012 2:05 p.m.

I have all the hate for Land Equilibrium in the world, though me saying that and running Jaya Ballard, Task Mage as my principle deck in our meta is kind of hypocritical.

I like this deck (+1). Maybe Cursecatcher and High Tide could be useful...

I don't see how this deck could win a multiplayer game ever. It would get slaughtered in my play group. I don't care if you are running 35 counter spells with CMC 3 or less. Eventually you will get tapped out and someone can play City of Solitude Grand Abolisher Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir or anything like that and your screwed. Also Cavern of Souls with Vesuva and any Tribal deck will laugh at your counter spells. Boseiju, Who Shelters All can also be use to stop you. A Thrun, the Last Troll deck could kill you with commander damage. And with no WC you just have a deck that counters a lot of spells. I think you should at at least one thing that can realistically win the game for you.

I've dealt with literally every card you've mentioned multiple times, Pope. A permanent somehow hits the table that I hate? Bounce it through various means, exile it with Karn, tutor for these answers. A trouble land? Strip it.

Granted, the deck is more geared towards 1v1, but it still does well in multi. The whole point is to use, y'know, strategy. I don't get tapped out often because I'm not an idiot. Sakura Tribe Elder? I don't tap out to counter it so you can drop your Teferi immediately after. It's all about knowing how to play the game.

As for one thing that can win me the game? Swinging with Teferi, Venser, Kami, Erayo, or any of the other creatures. Does it win me the game in one turn? No, but it's a control deck.

If your confident you can handle those cards I mentioned then good job, it's your deck not mine. Nobody in my play group play's a deck dedicated to counters because mostly everyone is too aggro for that to work. All the counter decks we play don't try to counter every spell like yours so I don't know how successful it is, but that was just my view from experience and my groups meta-game. If your deck works with your playgroup then by all means don't change it. Just watch out for Thrun, the Last Troll .

I can personally vouch for how well this deck works in multiplayer EDH. If I had a nickel for every time I sunk two hours of my life into a 4 way game with this deck only to lose to getting brained in the head by Kami of the Crescent Moon or infinite turns with Archaeomancer I could probably buy a box of RtR.

FYI, that 2,440 nickels.

@ TheGreatSeamus I don't see how Kami of the Crescent Moon can brain anyone when the biggest he can get in this deck is a 2/4 because of Caged Sun . Also infinite turns will be very unlikely to pull off because Time Stretch is CMC 10 and someone can just exile your graveyard when it hits the graveyard with Relic of Progenitus card:Tormod's Crypt or anything similar.

Time Stop is a nice one because it effectively "counters" stuff that can't be countered due to the nature of ending the turn. High to cast but in EDH that should't be a problem.

November 6, 2012 9:22 p.m.

21 turns of getting poked for one still causes you to lose the game, Pope.

Another card to consider would be Arcane Melee . Not as good as Time Stop for this deck but it does reduce the cost of many of your instants and sorceries. Also works well with your Rewind . Just a thought.
