I traded my Pride Sovereign to our local cat player. Gotta keep the legendary cat deck alive

majin_shinsa - I just saw the spoiled cat commander in C17. Once I've updated this deck for HOU I'm gonna be starting the cat EDH deck :)

majin_shinsa - There you go, man! HOU updated. It even made it cheaper... Haha. I will be making a few more tweaks as I look through more of the HOU cards too. There might be some non-creature cards that are worth putting in but we shall see.

Please let me know how it fares online. I haven't had much chance to playtest this thing yet so all feedback is appreciated! :)

Feel like Metallic Mimic is a must have. I Think you don't even need Anointed Procession anymore.

T1-Sacred Cat
T2--Metallic Mimic
T3---Pride Sovereign
T4----cast another Metallic Mimic, exert Pride Sovereign (making two 3/3 cats) and still have 1 mana for a combat trick likeeeeeee Appeal / Authority (gives +6+6 to protect someone and set up a big swing next turn, or just hit them in the face with your sacred cat for 7)
T5----Pride Sovereign is an 8/8, Now beat down hard.

I think you could keep this really aggressive and maybe only include like 2-3 Regal Caracal to complement the low amount of lands (yah there is Attune with Aether but that still makes your deck more like a 23 land deck and you wouldn't want hands where you get 4 lands and cast an Anointed Procession, while 2 caracal's sit uncast in your hand cause you can't hit land 5, imo)
To this end I think you could maybe add 1 or more non cats, Selfless Spirit is always good for wide strategies and is a solid 2 power flying attacker.

OK, take two - got logged out after typing this earlier so had to type it again!

Entomo - Thank you very much for the comment! I think you're right about a lot of it.... I'm going to modify the deck again. I'll put in 3 x Metallic Mimic (forgot they work with the cat tokens coming on the board too). To make room for those I'll take out both Vizier of the Menagerie because they're actually pretty slow and I think this should be quite a fast deck, and one Anointed Procession. I'm loathe to take all of them out but I see your point about them being slow as well.

I'll then put in 2 x Appeal / Authority and take out the 2 x Fragmentize as I'm not sure how much use they will show and if we're desperate for removal of non-creatures then we've got Cast Out there.

For now I'll avoid Selfless Spirit simply because it stops being standard legal in only 3 months and everything else has until Sept 2018!

Very happy to hear thoughts on this then!

I agree with all the changes you made withy your deck. I do think that the Vizier of the Menagerie is a slower card in practical use. After rotation when the Metallic Mimic is removed, it should be put in as there won't be as much in the way of support you could really utilize unless someone figures out another combo that deck should add.

I also think that if your using Attune with Aether, you can use the Longtusk Cub in the deck, if you choose to remove them and the cubs, I would add an additional Adorned Pouncer and Sacred Cat to the deck. I would additional put Appeal / Authority and Nature's Way as those two spells speak volumes for this deck in dealing with threats on the ground and in the air and act as a updated version of Declaration in Stone after rotation.

I am trying to keep my build as close to Post-rotation as possible and laying off the energy train for now as I think Solemnity will be floating around for a while and will cause the deck as you have it now a couple of bumps in mid to late game if you don't have answers to Solemnity as well.

Here is my deck as of right now that I will be using during the first FNM after release of Hour of Devastation.

If Hour of Devastation becomes rampant, saving grace will stack all the damage to 1 creature.

I recommend getting rid of a couple of lands for 4 copies of Scattered Groves and/or Fortified village.

theotherzhang - Thanks for the tip. I must admit I've been slack when it comes to looking at dual coloured lands. I haven't had enough time to playtest the deck to see what the mana fixing is like but it may be worthwhile putting some of them in for sure. Probably more likely to have the Scattered Groves than the Fortified Village as the latter will rotate out pretty soon!

As majin_shinsa mentioned, Hour of Devastation could be a major problem for this deck if it becomes popular. Saving Grace is one option, but Repel the Abominable could also work!

Atroxreaper says... #13

Like Saving Grace myself very flexible.

July 15, 2017 2:31 p.m.

majin_shinsa says... #14

Plus Saving Grace will protect your creatures but take out all of their citters. Then again Repel the Abominable will stop combat and other sources of damage for the rest of the turn. Also with Grixis becoming popular, Heroic Intervention will help with those Bontu's Last Reckoning

Recommended for your deck from what I saw:

1) Anointed Procession at 2.

2) Nature's Way should be kept at 2 or 3. I prefer to use them as a playset in mainboard to deal with killing creatures and siding them out when dealing with control and removal decks.

3) Appeal / Authority is too important not to use it at 4. Same with cards like Adorned Pouncer and Sacred Cat.

4) Cast Out should be kept at around 3. It hits too many things right now in standard and shouldn't be neglected. I use 3 mainboard and 1 sideboard to deal with Torment of Scarabs, Fraying Sanity, Nicol Bolas, Solemnity and creatures.

5) Metallic Mimic was great to help buff tokens, Sacred Cats, and Adorned Pouncers to buff them and give them more destructive power in any match-ups. Especially helping out with dealing damage with Appeal / Authority.

6) Heroic Intervention at 2 is good enough. Maybe sideboard additional copies.

fancysaurus, Atroxreaper, and tru13 - thanks all again for some great comments and contributions.

I am going to spend a bit of time later today (when I get a chance) to make a few changes to the deck again. I feel it might finally be time to remove the Attune with Aether and pop in a couple more basic land and see what we can do about other things you've mentioned. Some of them are already there or nearly there but adding a few more Sacred Cat, Adorned Pouncer, or Appeal / Authority will need a bit of jigging some numbers!

Thanks people :)

Could run Evolving Wilds you only have 4 one drops and the mana fixing and deck thinning would be worth it.

Initiate's Companion seems like it could replace Adorned Pouncer. or again Selfless Spirit. Oath of Nissa could replace attunes. Prepare / Fight?

Thanks for more comments, Entomo!

I think Adorned Pouncer is fantastic value from Eternalize, especially if you've got one Anointed Procession out. 4/4 tokens with double strike from a card you already spent?? I'm not sure possibly untapping a land beats that but I might be wrong.

Selfless Spirit is a great card but as I've mentioned previously I'm really trying to stay away from anything that was released before KLD, otherwise it rotates out in under 3 months anyway. Same with Oath of Nissa but the Attune with Aether are gone already anyway!

I do like Prepare / Fight but I'm not sure what I'd drop for it? To me it seems that Appeal / Authority has more use at the moment and Nature's Way fills the gap from the "Fight" part as well. I guess I could try 2 of each of the dual cards, rather than a full set of 1?

July 18, 2017 9:30 a.m.

Entomo says... #21

was thinking, more of untapping Pride Sovereign as the selling point, and also tuning for more aggro. pouncer is great value but hes kinda slow and I have been really dissapointed by his performance before he is eternalized, while the companion has 3 power and can tangle, plus can do tricks.
Prepare / Fight over Nature's Way AND Cast Out. it does more stuff and is never dead. Again, moving towards more aggro. and the lifelink will help in a race.

July 18, 2017 9:39 a.m.

sagramore says... #22

Entomo - You're totally right, forgive me - I just misread it and thought it only was a land that Initiate's Companion could untap. But yes, using it on a Pride Sovereign is certainly an interesting idea....

It might be feasible to move Cast Out to the sideboard (it has more targets than "Fight" or Nature's Way) to make room for Prepare / Fight. The thing I like about Nature's Way though is your own creature doesn't take any damage from it. I will have to see if it's possible (and worthwhile) to juggle some of the numbers to fit it in.

Atroxreaper says... #23

Personally I'd move the Prowling Serpopard to the side board and run Prepare in the main the ability to make two cat tokens off of Pride Sovereign then untap it pump it and attack with it lifelinked is big especially with the tokens back as defense . Gets even bigger if Metallic Mimic or Anointed Procession are out. Watchers of the DeadCould be Crook of Condemnation and I don't see the value of Stinging Shot kills very few flyers that are played these days but I do think it should be replaced with another removal spell. Typically I run 4 main deck removal and 4 in sideboard. Just my thought on that tho.

Atroxreaper and Entomo - Thanks both again, I've made a few tweaks based on your suggestions. I decided to keep the Watchers of the Dead rather than Crook of Condemnation simply for the theme!

I still haven't had much chance to playtest this deck (not much STD gets played around me) so if you guys try this in paper or online then I'm very interested to hear how it plays!

I know you have a cat thing going on, but there are two cards in your colors that I feel like would be super good: Crested Sunmare and Majestic Myriarch. They would go well with the tokens thing and are very good in your colors. Just a thought!
