Question: aeonstoremyliver, do you want the Decklist for deck:caliente-rojo I going to delete it soon?

March 19, 2012 4:43 p.m.

@ The_Murderauder...I'll take a look at that. The math seems to add up, but I may be wrong after reading the article...

@ Minousmancer It's cool, man. You've posted alot of the additions here. I'll be tweaking this deck and keeping you posted.

you should probably run Flame RiftMTG Card: Flame Rift, Rift BoltMTG Card: Rift Bolt, and Lava SpikeMTG Card: Lava Spike, and Goblin GuideMTG Card: Goblin Guide.

Searing BlazeMTG Card: Searing Blaze isn't in all burn decks, but i like it, you should probably include some.

Arc TrailMTG Card: Arc Trail will be most usefull against elves and goblins, where you're the control deck in the match-up, but it shouldn't be in the mainboard, because there are better alternatives for your bottom line.

when you cast Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting you lose 1 card advantage. It might help if you draw into too many lands in the later turns, but ultimately, it's not what you want in your deck.

Howling MineMTG Card: Howling Mine helps your opponent too, and will only be good in a small number of matchups. Burn likes to focus on time rather than cards.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen Barbarian RingMTG Card: Barbarian Ring in more burn decks. I think you should run 4.

Ghitu EncampmentMTG Card: Ghitu Encampment on the other hand, is a land which comes into play tapped. It's not something that you want to be playing in this deck. It's effect costs too much and isn't big enough to justify the coming into play tapped. I'd suggest Teetering PeaksMTG Card: Teetering Peaks over it, maybe, but even that's a little iffy.

Chandra, the FirebrandMTG Card: Chandra, the Firebrand costs 4 mana, and won't net you very much damage unless you go to later turns, which you don't want to do.

March 20, 2012 5:26 p.m.

With the exception of Goblin GuideMTG Card: Goblin Guide I like the cards you suggested. They're affordable. I can't, however, drop cash for a playset of Guides. I intend to eventually ...

My point with Howling MineMTG Card: Howling Mine and Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting is card draw. I really, really hate to top draw. If you have any cost effective suggestions, pray tell.

Ghitu EncampmentMTG Card: Ghitu Encampment is a 1x solely because it's a man land. And yes, Barbarian RingMTG Card: Barbarian Ring is badass and I'd like more lol.

Chandra I like because she can copy spells and plink mana dorks and the like. I never expect to pop her off, hence the 1x. I might be better off with a simple ForkMTG Card: Fork type effect ...

Goblin GuideMTG Card: Goblin Guide is excellent, and splashing black for Bump in the NightMTG Card: Bump in the Night with Dragonskull SummitMTG Card: Dragonskull Summit is worthwhile

For this deck you know what would be even BETTER than Goblin GuideMTG Card: Goblin Guide and is cheaper Flamekin HarbingerMTG Card: Flamekin Harbinger yeah a one drop Tutor, is the awesomesauce I just took Goblin GuideMTG Card: Goblin Guide out of Harbinger of Fire and replaced it with Flamekin HarbingerMTG Card: Flamekin Harbinger and it's working wonders!

March 22, 2012 6:50 p.m.

@Minousmancer problem is your not getting any damage in on turn one, and with Spark ElementalMTG Card: Spark Elemental, Hellspark ElementalMTG Card: Hellspark Elemental and Ball LightningMTG Card: Ball Lightning you shouldnt need a card to dig for one. although i can certainly see the benefit :)

kram130 A huge part of my suggestion is the price difference 4xGoblin GuideMTG Card: Goblin Guide = $20.00 | 4xFlamekin HarbingerMTG Card: Flamekin Harbinger = $2.32

well yeh there is that too :D

March 22, 2012 7:42 p.m.

kram130 I like your Bump in the NightMTG Card: Bump in the Night suggestion ...

Minousmancer I dig the Flamekin HarbingerMTG Card: Flamekin Harbinger tutor idea!

So what do you guys think about the card draw with Howling MineMTG Card: Howling Mine and Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting? If I get more Chandra's PhoenixMTG Card: Chandra's Phoenix and add Bump in the NightMTG Card: Bump in the Night, discarding would be no big deal. As I stated above, I loathe top drawing ...

Think about it this way. "instead of Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting I had X" would that normally be better?

"instead of Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting I had Hellspark ElementalMTG Card: Hellspark Elemental"

"instead of Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting I had Lava SpikeMTG Card: Lava Spike"

etc.

Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting is pretty good cause it instantly gives you enough fuel for Grim LavamancerMTG Card: Grim Lavamancer, though it's a lot better if you run things you don't mind discarding, like things with recursion, e.g. Hellspark ElementalMTG Card: Hellspark Elemental or FireboltMTG Card: Firebolt, Chandra's PhoenixMTG Card: Chandra's Phoenix and the like. That being said I would replace Keldon MaraudersMTG Card: Keldon Marauders with Hellspark ElementalMTG Card: Hellspark Elemental for the reason i just stated and because I think it's just better in general cause you'll get 2 swings out of it, but just one with the marauder.

Also +1 cause I love homebrew RDW decks

March 23, 2012 3:23 p.m.

Sweet, thanks! Figures I just spent my allotted budget on Keldon MaraudersMTG Card: Keldon Marauders and the like ... lol. Kinda why I subbed in the Howling MineMTG Card: Howling Mine for card draw as suggested above. I like the suggestion though, thanks! Hellspark ElementalMTG Card: Hellspark Elemental does rock.

So, does Howling MineMTG Card: Howling Mine help or hinder? In testing I have access to way more burn when I need it. It gives my opponent a slight advantage, but it makes me faster. Thoughts?

I've also considered BrowbeatMTG Card: Browbeat and Shattered PerceptionMTG Card: Shattered Perception...

As a rule I would say Howling MineMTG Card: Howling Mine isn't that great, because it give's your opponent immediate advantage with his next draw, and it holds you up 1 turn putting it out. But if it has been working for you then screw the logic go with what works. BrowbeatMTG Card: Browbeat is awesome. Either 5 damage or 3 cards for 3 mana. Either way that's really efficient.

Tezzeret's GambitMTG Card: Tezzeret's Gambit can be really good if you have things in your deck that are counter based like Stormblood BerserkerMTG Card: Stormblood Berserker, or planeswalkers. It's especially good with Chandra, the FirebrandMTG Card: Chandra, the Firebrand cause you can double it and she loses no loyalty counters, and you draw 4. I try to abuse proliferation a bit in my deck Hottest couple 2012 and it's pretty fun.

March 23, 2012 4:19 p.m.

I agree, BrowbeatMTG Card: Browbeat is a win win. The Mine seems to work in playtesting, but haven't tested against another actual player. The CMC is only 2, which is nice, and it's not likely to get countered ...

Tezzeret's GambitMTG Card: Tezzeret's Gambit would work better if I had more cards with counters to support it; I want my Marauders to die.

I think I may go with picking up more copies of BrowbeatMTG Card: Browbeat. But what do think about Shattered PerceptionMTG Card: Shattered Perception?

Minousmancer says... #18

Howling MineMTG Card: Howling Mine, in my opinion, isn't something you put into a deck. It's a card you build a deck around.

For this deck, I'd think about and tinker with including: Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting & Shattered PerceptionMTG Card: Shattered Perception as a way to get to the cards you want in hand and the cards you want in your Graveyard. I'm using both while deck:pretending-red-is-the-new-black and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

If you want Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting to be good, you can always try to build a legacy Burning VengeanceMTG Card: Burning Vengeance deck

March 23, 2012 5:29 p.m.

Thanks for the advice, folks. Made some changes. Take a look.

March 24, 2012 3:09 a.m.

You might consider some Vexing Devil s. I haven't actually seen how they play in RDW yet, but they seem pretty good. I dunno.

Like somebody else mentioned, I'd up the Barbarian Ring count to 4. They may not work well with Grim Lavamancer , but hey, all you've got in those slots now are Mountains, right? Why not?

I might also check out Kargan Dragonlord over Figure of Destiny . It's an overall investment of less mana to get him to his highest level, and it can be paid over time, and he gets evasion earlier on.

July 8, 2012 3:11 p.m.

I LOVE Vexing Devil !!! Lose 4 life to make me sac it or I swing next turn for 4...hmmm. LOL I don't have any, but would like a playset of those AND Goblin Guide . 4x of each would run me around $40.00... I'm willing to invest in those cards, as they have lots of value. Plus Vexing Devil will be in Standard for awhile too.

The only issue I have with 4x Barbarian Ring is the amount of life being lost from them and my fetch lands (fuel for Lavamancer]]. I could playtest with 4 though and see how it goes.

Kargan Dragonlord . Huh. Never considered that card. I like that Figure of Destiny is a 1 CMC, but I've only gotten it to the 8/8 flying once. Do you think Kargan Dragonlord is worth the mana investment? I could drop it turn 2, then turn 4 swing for 4... hmm.

What do you think about the lone Koth of the Hammer ? I question him being there.

July 8, 2012 7:14 p.m.

Sam_I_am says... #23

Koth of the Hammer is moreso for the long game. Shrine of Burning Rage is for the even longer game.

Also, judging from some of your cards and their counts, you're building this based off a Fire and Lightning premium deck, am i right?

July 9, 2012 11:21 a.m.

@ Sam_I_am

I thought so for Koth...still on the fence with him. I like the Shrine of Burning Rage , but wonder if it's too slow for Legacy. I can pop it turn 5-6 for the win, but wonder if I can add anything better within budget, like Brimstone Volley . Even Infernal Plunge on my 2nd Main Phase. Sac a Hellspark Elemental , Ball Lightning , etc. and gain 3 mana.

Lol... yep. I picked up the deck Fire and Lightning. I dug all the foils and it came with some pretty neat cards, ala Chain Lightning and Grim Lavamancer .

I'm trying to tweak it to be competitive and budget friendly.
