You should also put budget as one of this decks hubs.

Chain Lightning is another Lightning Bolt . Most opponents won't have the 2 red mana to fling it back.

Ashen Rider is a sideboard card for a single matchup; Show and Tell. It's a blowout against that deck.

@Scorprix To echo what Kaitoghost said, Chain Lightning is another Bolt. Granted it's a sorcery, but RDW wants to deal as much damage for as little mana as possible. If the opponent does happen to make the mistake of paying RR and I play it turn 3, I can hav them take 6 to the dome that turn. Most players won't make that mistake.

Keldon Megaliths is nifty, but it ETB tapped, which is horrid for RDW. I need fuel for my fire and want to maximize mana each turn. Barbarian Ring is like a Shock , easy to activate, and can end games.

Yep, Ashen Rider is for the Show and Tell matchup. They can drop Griselbrand , Emrakul, the Aeons Torn , Iona, Shield of Emeria , etc. turn 2 and I have no other way to deal with it. Ashen Rider makes quick work of the critters and is a flying 5/5 to boot, furthering our strategy.

Pyroblast is better than Red Elemental Blast . Pyroblast says "counter target spell if it's blue, or destroy target permanent if it's blue" however Red Elemental Blast says "counter target blue spell or destroy target blue permanent". This means any spell or permanent is a legal target for Pyroblast , but the effect only works if the spell/permanent is blue, meaning you can "throw them out" to Grim Lavamancer if you want more fuel in the grave, and there aren't any legal targets. However, to even cast Red Elemental Blast there must be a blue spell or permanent to counter or kill. Minor, i know, but the difference is still relevant.

Yeah, that's kinda too minor lol. If I side in Red Elemental Blast , I'll have good reason to use it.

Alright I am here to view the deck once more. :D

I fully agree on what you wrote on my deck about replace Ball Lightning with a playset of Devil and a third progress as three mana is way too much for a card that can be killed at instant speed.

The other thing I would do is get rid of Barbarian Ring I have been playing with it for a while now and paired with Eidolon of the Great Revel and even without it tends to hurt more than help and to this day of me using my deck I never activated even once. The chances of your graveyard getting that full is almost nonexist because one, if you manged to play that amount of spells your probably already won or have another spell to win in your hand and two Grim Lavamancer eats your graveyard already so it that also makes it useless. Also, In rare situations you may be lacking a mountain to play Fireblast . Even if you don't want to get rid of it I suggest you cut down the copies to 1 or 2 instead of three.

Finally, for your sideboard I would added in a fourth copy of Price of Progress as this card can really shake legacy.

Well that's all I got for now :3

Question for you, why would you run Eidolon of the Great Revel if you never once ran Pyrostatic Pillar in the mainboard? Eidolon is basically a weaker pillar.

August 14, 2014 2:42 p.m.

Eidolon gives me a super edge against TES/ANT alongside Pillar in the side, as Storm is a weak matchup for me. Plus in the Legacy meta, Eidolon wrecks face. He may eat removal, which is fine, as something like Lavamancer can stick.

Pillar wasn't worthy of running main as I had more of a creature base rather than Burn. Eidolon having a 2/2 body is nice. I replaced him for Keldon Marauders as the damage potential is greater w Eidolon if left unchecked.

It also means you are practically killing yourself if they don't get rid of it on their turn, and if they do, it only does 2 damage. 2 damage for a 2 mana cost card? Not worth it in my opinion.

August 14, 2014 4:17 p.m.

Against Storm, it's an auto-win. Any other deck will probably be able to StP, Bolt, etc. As far as killing myself, the damage I'm taking is negligible considering the damage I'm dealing with creatures and burn. They should be dead long before I am.

Rumor has it that Monastery Swiftspear is a decent card. Ok, Swiftspear LOVES this kind of deck. It can probably swap in for the Vexing Devils

November 14, 2014 5:53 p.m.

I like Swiftspear, as she has lots of potential. However, the Prowess ability generally lends itself, in this instance at least, to more of a Tempo shell and playstyle. I have yet to test her in this archetype, but I'd be inclined to think that the piloting would have to drastically change in order for her to function properly.

That being said, this style of Red Deck Wins is a bit more aggressive and interactive. That is, I really like to hold mana open and play my instants reactively or at the EOT. Swiftspear doesn't allow that to happen, forcing me to play spells precombat, before blockers are declared, or during the combat damage step.

This is my favorite RDW on the site, I don't have any suggestions +1. I especially love Price of Progress. Maybe main board Pyrostatic Pillar since it is less prone to removal than Eidolon of the Great Revel.

Thanks! I've strongly considered mainboarding Pillar. I may test it out.

Why are you running eidolon? seems a bit counter-productive in this deck

eeriekiller says... #19

Also, If you're running 3-drops in your sideboard, you should probably run another land in there. Your fetches can't grab your barbarian ring, so there's very small chance of you actually grabbing it. I'd replace it with another stomping grounds

Completely disregard my land comment. I found your mountains

April 28, 2016 10:15 a.m.

Eidolon of the Great Revel is ridiculously good in Modern and Legacy, where the majority of spells are CMC 3 or less. Granted, it hurts me too, however I'm all burn and will obliterate my opponent before Eidelon hurts me too badly. Plus, he's fantastic against Storm variants.

19 lands seems to be the sweet spot for me, although I have considered another land. It seems I get flooded often with 20. Last thing this deck wants is to top deck a land.

Hull Breach has some tool box, however Destructive Revelry adds to my burn game plan. It replaced Smash to Smithereens. Anytime I can blow something up AND deal damage is a win-win.

You are able to sort my deck by types, to make it easier to view vs custom categories, where it is now.
