Crosis' Naughty Spectres

Commander / EDH Discard

Interested in building a discard EDH deck with a mix of combat and indirect win conditions and I think the naughty grixis colours are the way to go for that. I know Nath is pretty great for discard but he was a bit restricted in colour and it would just end up becoming black/green discard elf tribal, which is a bit boring. I do also like Greel but his mono-black colours and slightly restrictive ability would make me feel like I'm playing a bit of a half-assed discard deck that's a bit underwhelming and easy to stop.

So right now the discard commanders I'm interested in are Crosis, the Purger, Gwendlyn Di Corci and of course the classic old Nicol Bolas. Whilst old Bolas' ability is seriously powerful, his CMC means as a commander he'd be very susceptible to removal. I think I might run him, though most certainly not as commander (if I did I would probably have to board in quite a few bits and bobs for his protection!). Since I loved the spectres, I've gone for the more combat orientated discard with Crosis as my commander.

The deck must also be affordable. I don't have a lot of money on me and even if I did I'd debate whether I'd spend more than around 3 on a card unless it was absolutely critical to the deck. Once I've found a pile of decent cards for the deck, all the excess will be trimmed off and hopefully I'll be left with a good working grixis discard deck.

In this deck, I am looking for repeatable sources of discard (the only exceptions are spells which remove entire hands or give a secondary benefit). To those who are wondering, the reason why I haven't boarded in so many cards which target each opponent or all players is to stop a giant target from being painted on my head. In EDH, if you're running those kind of effects you should make sure they're powerful enough to win quickly or you should make yourself an extremely unappealing target (which Gwendlyn is better at). As it is I can already imagine a beefy target over my head!

On Removal: considering this is a discard deck, I am considering replacing a lot of removal effects with bounce ones instead. Then I can trigger all my discard combo material by making them discard it. Doesn't really even matter if it was useful or not - just making the opponent discard a card should be quite juicy - so I'm thinking just in case the opponent doesn't run much draw or if they play something lethal to my deck I'd want to replace almost all removal with bounce instead (though I do want to keep some counters handy). A couple of things I've noticed so far - probably need to have a lot more that can deal with artefacts/enchantments and also more wrath effects. Brainstorm and equivalent cards wouldn't hurt to add either, but I need more slots.
