Sideboard

Maybeboard

This deck is basically designed to get one of these cards out by turn 2-4:

  1. Platinum Angel

  2. Iona, Shield of Emeria

  3. Avacyn, Angel of Hope

Any one of those cards as early as turn 2-4 should be a game ender but the beauty is that you will usually get 2 or 3 out by turn 5-6. I think the mana comes out really fast every time and if you don't get mana acceleration Enlightened Tutor searches for it.

I do wonder if I have more mana acceleration than I actually need, I usually end up later in the game not able to use nearly all my mana, though usually it's worth it to get Iona out by turn 4 and prevent all those spells that would have been otherwise cast.

Other than that the deck wants to get as much flying damage as possible. I'm not really certain that Moonsilver Spear is better in this deck than Entreat the Angels but I don't want to spend 20 bucks per card so I went with the spear. I have found a few situations where having angel of Jubilation would have been advantageous over the spear as well. Considering it's a secondary card however, and it rarely matters which I get, I'm keeping it for now.

I have had a few situations where I played against direct damage decks that dealt damage faster than I could, but I haven't seen any of those situations where they were able to do it before I got Platinum angel, or Iona out to protect myself. I've also never had any difficulty keeping platinum angel alive between having Indomitable Archangel, Avacyn, and Iona.

I've also played enchantment decks that were able to get larger creatures creatures out than I was. I considered putting Moat in to keep their non-flying creatures from attacking, but again I'm not paying 200 dollars for a card. On the other hand I could use Magus of the Moat. The disadvantage of Magus is that I can't search for it using Enlightened Tutor since it's not an enchantment.

However in the games I've played, I didn't need to worry about blocking their creatures because I either had an indestructible vigilance Avacyn, Angel of Hope to block with, or I had a hexproof Platinum Angel to keep me from dying (loosing) when I reached 0 health.

Against those Enchantment decks having lots of token monsters did help since I attacked but they had 2 big creatures to block Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Iona, Shield of Emeria, but all my tokens (and my ever growing Herald of War) still go through every turn.

With all my creatures indestructible the only way to destroy them (Platinum Angel in particular) is to exile them, force me to sacrifice them, or give them -1/-1 counters (or spells that say target creature gets -x/-x) till they have 0 toughness. With my artifacts (Platinum Angel) being hexproof as well, that eliminates the ability to target them with spells that put -1/-1 counters on them, and eliminates the ability to exile them. The only threats left are Eldrazi with annihilator, and other cards that force me to sacrifice. (I am aware of cards that clear the board of all creatures, but I'm not aware of any that don't use the word destroy, if there are any I'd like to know about them).

To this point the only game I've lost was against another deck I built using an infinite combo to kill creatures with Butcher of Malikor in it. But that deck has a hard-counter I would sideboard in, Angel of Jubilation which just leaves eldrazi decks left, I think I should side-board some Magus of the Moat for those so the Eldrazi can't attack and activate their annihilator ability.

I also am side-boarding in Leyline of Sanctity for any other unforeseen spells that may target me and force me to sacrifice or discard.

This left me with some side-board spots empty that I just filled in with whatever for now.

I decided more than the ability to use its large quantity of mana after all the cards in hand are used, this deck needed destruction.

I decided on Planar Cleansing since it can clear pretty much anything off the board, and since it has the word "Destroy" and Avacyn, Angel of Hope makes my permanent's indestructible it doesn't even hurt me.

Plus it will help use some of the mana I have leftover, it's a 6 cost card. I debated on using an artifact instead so I could Enlightened Tutor for it, but those didn't destroy artifacts, and since Iona, Shield of Emeria cannot stop colorless spells, I felt like I needed some defense against artifacts.
