(Custom) Gostang, Pit Champion (READ DESCRIPTION)

Commander / EDH Enrage Fight RG (Gruul)

Fligyn

Another attempt at building around a custom commander that uses the conjure mechanic introduced in Jumpstart: Historic Horizons. This one is a gruul fight deck that aims to have your creatures as the indomitable victors of any and all bouts that take place on the battlefield.

Gostang, Pit Champion {2}{R/G}{R/G}

Legendary Creature - Human Barbarian

At the beginning of combat on each player's turn, conjure a Pit Fight into that player's hand. This game, mana may be spent as though it were mana of any color to cast it.

Whenever a creature wins a fight against a creature other than Gostang, Pit Champion, that creature’s controller puts a +1/+1 counter on it and creates two Treasure tokens. Put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature you control.

4/5

The strategy for this deck is to fight a lot, and use the treasures to fuel larger creatures which will then fight some more and/or stomp the opponents. Besides the Pit Fights being created by my commander, there are also a few other fighters like Gruul Ragebeast and Thorn Mammoth that can bring the pain. And in terms of raw fight syergy, there are cards like Neyith of the Dire Hunt and Foe-Razer Regenet to support. There are a variety of creatures and cards that want to be targeted or want us to target our own creatures. Enrage cards like Silverclad Ferocidons, Vrondiss, Ragen of Ancients, or Polyraptor serve as high level payoffs for fighting, while Gnarlback Rhino and Season of Growth keep us fueled up on cards.

Since we'll be making treasures, there are some wincons based around that as well. Hellkite Tyrant can threaten a victory, and Reckless Fireweaver does the same by burning out our opponents. Some other potent artifact synergies exist like Fangren Marauder and Summoning Station, which provide much needed value along the way. And finally, there are cards that punish our opponents for using their Pit Fights and/or targeting us with them/other removal. Some of these punishers are Wild Defiance, Fiendlash/Blazing Sunsteel, and Wandering Archaic  .

And one more cool thing about conjuring in EDH. I get to run cool cards that would otherwise never work, like Pyromancer Ascension or Locket of Yesterdays :^)
