This deck is built around
March from the Tomb
, though it doesn't need it to be able to win. It's main strategy is to fill up the graveyard and then bring back all the allies with
March from the Tomb
similar to how rally decks worked.
Kalastria Healer and Zulaport Cutthroat are the lifeblood of this deck. Their triggers allow you to buy time in the early game and when they are brought back with
March from the Tomb
they seal your opponents fate as they have enough lifedrain between them to kill him/her off.
Gather the Pack is used primarily to fill your graveyard, but they can also grab you some good creatures like the ones mentioned above.
Pulse of Murasa
gets back a good or useful creature and buys time through healing. You could also play
Corpse Churn
in this spot.
Evolutionary Leap is brilliant in this deck. The reason this card works so well is because it has great synergy with Kalastria Healer and Zulaport Cutthroat. It's sacrifice triggers Zulaport Cutthroat and the new creature you find with it triggers Kalastria Healer. It also finds new copies of the cards which work really well together as their lifedrain stacks. Furthermore it can help you fill your graveyard with creatures and help you find other good creatures like
Tajuru Warcaller
. Usually it should be used solely on creatures that are already going to die because of removal or chump blocking, but it can be used at the end of your opponents turn as well.
Expedition Envoy
and Beastcaller Savant are mostly there as cheap sacrifial fodder and/or chump blockers, but
Expedition Envoy
can also deal some early damage and Beastcaller Savant can help you cast more or bigger creatures and speed your deck up.
Nantuko Husk
is used as another sac-outlet to trigger Zulaport Cutthroat and can also be used as a lethal attacker. I'm not that sure about him anymore, but I'm not sure about his possible replacements (
Veteran Warleader
or Drana's Emissary either.
Cliffhaven Vampire is played fairly easily with 4 Beastcaller Savants in the deck and has great synergy with Kalastria Healer and Zulaport Cutthroat, making their triggers fairly lethal. He is an evasive 2 damage as well, so he is pretty useful.
Tajuru Warcaller
is brutal in this deck. The many weak creatures in this deck become quite a large threat when this enters the battlefield and even if you're not able to attack for lethal that turn, there are a lot of allies in this deck and a lot of them can be played quite cheaply. It becomes especially fun, when you start sacrificing those newly entered allies with Evolutionary Leap to find and summon even more of them! This card works great with Beastcaller Savant as well because Beastcaller Savant makes
Tajuru Warcaller
easier to play and
Tajuru Warcaller
makes Beastcaller Savant a 3/3 with haste when entering the battlefield.
